What do you think of when you see hearts?

  1. The teacher will hang Valentines decorations in the room.
  2. Ask the children: What do you think of when you see a heart? How do you know someone loves you? What would you do to let someone know you love them?
  3. The teacher will explain that the hearts are a sign we use to say “I love you”.
  4. Distribute Activity Page 87, markers,  glitter, and glue.
  5. Explain to the children that they are going to make some beautiful valentines to give to people we love.
  6. Have the children choose they will give their valentine card.
  7. Have the children make a valentine’s prayer.

What do good friends do? 

  1.  The teacher will talk to the children on how special they are.
  2. Talk how they are made different and special.
  3. Ask: How do you feel when other children think you are not special? Do you think is right for other children think that way? What would you do to stop the bullying.
  4. The teacher will read aloud “Chester Raccoon and the Big Bad Bully.”
  5. Ask the children the following questions: What are some of the the bullying behavior found in the book? How did Chester and his friend felt when they were bullied? What did they do to solve the problem? Do you think the parent did the right thing to confront the bully? What would you have done?
  6. Have the children make a “good friend” chain; they add a chain when someone the teacher sees them being a good friend.

  • Discuss what abstinence and fasting is
  • Discuss what we are supposed to do during Lent and why.

  1. Discuss with the Ash Wednesday and do we do on Ash Wednesday.
  2. Discuss what the Ashes are made from.
  3. Review vocabulary words: pray, fast, almsgiving.
  4. Ask the children the following questions: What are we supposed to do during Lent? What other ideas can you think of? Why do you think we do this things during Lent?
  5. Explain that during Lent we are to try to “change.”  we need to be kind to others and improve our relationship with God.
  6. Read “From Tadpole to Frog.”
  7. Ask: What happened to the tadpole? Which life is better? What would you do to change and have a good relationship with god?
