SketchUp Assignment
For this assignment the students can choose to draw either a colonial style house or an Aztec, Incan, or Mayan pyramid. Real life examples of these in can be found here: Colonial Houses and Aztec, Incan, and Mayan Pyramids
will be drawing a plot plan in 3D using SketchUp. A plot plan is an architectural drawing that shows all the major features and structures on a piece of property. The information included on a plot plan can vary by project and region, but will generally include the location of all buildings, porches, decks, and sheds. The plan may also include swimming pools and landscaping features. SketchUp is a software application for creating 3D drawings.
Your 3D plot plans must have the following:
Summary of Requirements: (See Detailed Requirements for more information.)
- at least one (1) building with a peaked roof
- at least one (1) water feature
- at least one (1) tree or plant
- Your building, water feature, and plant MUST ALL fit within a 150’ x 150’ area and be scaled proportionally to a human.
Detailed Requirements:
Plot Size
- The outermost boundary of the plot plan can not exceed 150 feet by 150 feet
Building
- At least one building must be drawn from scratch. In otherwords you have to draw a building yourself. You cannot add it from the 3D warehouse. *You can, however, add additional buildings from the 3d Warehouse providing that you draw at least one by yourself.
- The building CANNOT be larger than 40’ x 60’.
- The walls of your building must be between 6” and 18” thick and the inside of your house must be hollow. (This means that you will have to draw the floor, then walls, and then use the Push/Pull tool to drag the walls to the height you want.)
- The building must have a door, two (2) windows, and a peaked roof. *You must put the doors and windows in your house before adding the roof. (See below for more details on the roof.)
- Roof
- The roof of at least one section of the building you draw must be peaked. (Rain must be able to run off of the roof.) *You can also have a flat roof (if you have mutliple buildings or multiple sections of one building) providing that you have drawn at least one peaked roof.
- The roof must be covered in a traditional roofing material (shingles).
Water Feature
You must draw the water feature. You can draw a swimming pool, hot tub, pond, stream, or edge of a lake or ocean.
Plant(s)
You must add at least one plant to your drawing.
- Your plant(s) should added from the 3D warehouse. (This is so that it is easily recognizable as a plant!)
- Your plant(s) must be scaled appropriately
- Your plant(s) cannot be floating in the air. It/they must be either attached to the ground or setting on something. If a plant is a potted plant it can be sitting on any surface such as a deck, patio, balconly, a flat roof, or somewhere in your building as long as the teacher can see it!
The following link will take you to a photo gallery that has professional examples of the assignment. (Your designs will not be this detailed or sophisticated.)
