Dear Rep. _______,

I am reaching out to you as a constituent and member of the Syrian American community. We commend Representatives Joe Wilson, Vicente Gonzalez, Mike McCaul, Brendan Boyle, French Hill, Steve Cohen, Carlos Gimenez, and Amata Radewagen for introducing the Assad Regime Anti-Normalization Act at a time where some countries have attempted to normalize their relations with the criminal Assad. We are very pleased that the bill passed through the House Foreign Affairs Committee with bipartisan support and hope that we will have your support in getting it passed on the House floor through your co-sponsorship.

The proposed bill aims to establish a policy that declares the U.S. will not recognize any government led by Bashar al-Assad. It also modifies the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act, to close loopholes and ensure that sanctions do not hurt the Syrian people. This section would also add new sanctions for those who steal or divert humanitarian assistance meant for the Syrian people, which is a necessary measure to hold those who violate the Caesar Act accountable for their actions. Additionally, it requires an interagency strategy to counter the normalization of Assad happening in the Arab world and requires a report on the manipulation of UN aid by the Assad regime.

It is important that the U.S. government takes a firm stance against the Assad regime and its atrocities, and this bill provides a clear and necessary roadmap for doing so. This bipartisan legislative initiative reinforces the position of Congress on U.S. policy toward Syria. As your constituent, and as a member of the Syrian American community, I urge you to support this legislation with your co-sponsorship and vote.

Thank you,
