ICT TERM 1 2014
Current Situation in classrooms- So the BOT are aware of the financial implications to come
Projectors: These where purchased cheaply, two years ago. Of the 11 we have already lost two ( due to broken bulbs, which cost more to buy than the projector did)which need replacing ASAP. These are in rooms 11 and 12. I would imagine that the remainder of these projectors will slowly loose their functionality due to broken bulbs sometime in the next 18 mths. I have permission from Gary to purchase two new bulbs and am trying to find the cheapest deal for these . I expect them to be around $400
Class tablets: There are between 1 and two of these per class, a mix of ipad mini and samsung. at present these are working well and with care from teachers will continue to do so. The only problem we have is with secure storage and broken charger cables. Maybe we invest in a lock box for each room that also doubles as a charger? as teachers let kids play with them while they are charging and cables get broken.
Extenda systems in rooms 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11,12
These are XP and are breaking down more and more frequently. I have stopped asking Kirk to come and try to fix these as it is going to cost more to try and nurse them along than is worth it given the end of XP is in April( at this point I will have to remove all xp computers from the school- meaning no computers in ANY room, as the tv ones in junior rooms are also xp) The ones in 6 and 7 do not work at all ( so these senior classes have NO computers ) The rest have between 3-4 extenders that work, but these tend to freeze when actually trying to work more than one child at them. This makes them useless for teaching. Therefore we have some very frustrated teachers.
Flat screen TV’S these are in all classes, they are attached to xp hard drives which are functioning ok at the moment( but will be removed in April) . In rooms 6 and 7 there is nothing attached to them and they are there simply as wall decorations:)
Camera’s two years ago all classes had a camera. These are still there, though most have lost charger cables and in two classes the camera itself is broken. It may be that we need to look at a better way of supplying camera’s to classes?
Cabling around school
This is all good as per the overarching plan to upgrade. The only issues are in rooms 1-4 where we should be aware the cables are all running on massive extension cables and these may break and need repairing sometime before the classes actually get a revamp.
New Server
This is running really well now, after the builders crashed it by cutting the cables!
It is going to become the only server for the school in two weeks time, when we will be able to finally turn off the old one. This server is a visualised server- meaning it can run many different operating systems, not just one. This will future proof us for any eventuality.
