The most fundamental property of music is beat. Another word for this is pulse, which reminds us that we each have our very own internal steady beat- our heartbeat. Feeling and moving to steady beat with Baby helps him/her develop a sense of time and learn to organize and coordinate his/her movements within time.

Have you noticed your child's interest in other people? During our shared music time in Kindermusik Foundations, your child may watch, touch, hug, smile at one of their new friends in class. Through happy small group experiences with parents/care-givers present, such as your Foundations class, your child is developing a sense of trust in others and an understanding that they are valued by other adults. They are also learning Intentionality, Self-Control, Cooperation, and so much more . . .
Social interaction is one of the many benefits of Foundations. Kindermusik Foundations provides ample opportunities for you and your child to establish interactive relationships through a variety of activities that focus on face-to-face communication, touch, and vocalization - all key elements to creating social awareness. Even during our rocking time activity, you are able to nurture your parent-child relationship, which is an important source of self-esteem. As your child gains self-esteem she will also gain a great appreciation for others.

1) Home Journal Week 2: ”High & Low”

- Eugenia Enjoy swinging your baby
- Kerry Ten-Penny Wash: Can you say family line dance?
SECTION 1
- Bounce 8 beats (2x)
- Walk forward 1-2-3 Bow (say Hello), Back 2-3-4
- Walk forward 1-2-3 Clap, Back 2-3-4
- Swing your Partner round and round, 5-6-7-8
- 1-2-3-4 (cont to swing) return 6-7-8
- Pat & Bounce3-4-5-6-7-8
- Dosido 3-4-5-6-7-8
- Repeat Pat & Bounce and Dosido
SECTION 2
- Head couple claps partner hand
- Then claps family in line, and partner etc as move down line.
- “Yee - ha!” Hold partners hand and come back to the head
- Peel out (like a banana) Partners - turn away from each other and walk behind their respective lines to then end of the line
- Form a Bridge and say “Hello” to all who pass under.
- Repeat - changing arms - until all have had a turn as head couple!
- How about "routinely" including a Beat Activity into your daily play?
- Challenge: Continue to Incorporate 4 "LOVE RITUALS" every day. Each takes between 10 seconds - 1 minute. That's top - 4 minutes of LOVE which reaps LIFETIME benefits for emotional development and behavioral bliss!

4) Listen - listen - listen to your music. Familiarize your baby (and yourself) with some of the songs we will be singing over the next few weeks by listening to your class music in the car, at Grandma’s, the sitter, everywhere!
