mention the sum to anyone as I have sold it to you as a brother-artist at half price. I am very pleased that you like my work sufficiently to add it to your collection

Lilian Vereker Hamilton was born Lilian Swainson in 1865. She studied at the Slade School of Arts and was the wife of the painter Vereker Monteith Hamilton. She was active between 1881 and 1913.

[2] Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts (1832-1914). De László paid six guineas for the bronze medallion of Lord Roberts (see DLA007-0059). In 1911, De László had painted four portraits of Lord Roberts [6924] [6925] [6931] [6928].
