Discovering Living Things

(Part 2)

The children will recognize what living things need. 

What do living things need? 

  1. Have the children look a t the mural and see all the wonderful things God has created for us.
  2. Tell the children that we will talk about trees and flowers.
  3. Have the children make trees to add to the mural by having the children use their hand print.
  4. Distribute activity p. 72.
  5. Review what living things need.
  6. Have the children point to the things that are alive on the activity p. 72.
  7. Have the children place a star on something that is not alive on activity p. 72.
  8. Have the children answer the following questions: What do living things need? What do we get from living things? Why we need to take care of the living things?

 Discovering Our World

(Part 1)

The children will learn to appreciate the non-living things in our world made by God.

What wonderful things do you see? 

  1. Ask the children what things in our world are made by God.
  2. Have the children sing “God Made Everything.”
  3. The teacher will explain that God made the world and everything in it for us.
  4. Read Genesis 1:1-2:3
  5. Display pictures of the sun, moon, stars, water, rocks, plants, animals, people, and so on from the creation story.
  6. Tell the children that we will learn about some of the things that God created.
  7. Show Activity Page 67.
  8. Invite the children to let their finger come for a “walk” along the seashore with Henry and his brother.
  9. Have the children identify each element of creation shown in the drawing.
  10. Read the third line rhythmically, having the children point to each item I name.
  11. Ask the following questions: What wonderful things can you see? How can we use these things? Why did God created these things?

(Part 2)

The children will appreciate that all of creation is God’s gift of love to us. 

Can you identify the things God created for us?

 

  1. Have the children sing “God made Everything.”
  2. Tell the children that they will make objects of God’s creation.
  3. Let the children select which one would like to color.
  4. Have the children tell why they chose that object.
  5. Pass out Activity Page 68.
  6.  Have the children answer the following questions: Can you identify the things God created for us? Why did God give us these things? What would happen if God did not give us these things?
  7. Begin a group mural on creation.
  8. Have the children place their fingerprint on the yellow paper plate.
  9. Then have the children color stars and place them near the mural.

(Part 3)

To help the children express their joy in god’s creation through a simple celebration. 

How does clouds helps us?

 

  1. Review God’s creation.
  2. Talk about items we have made for the mural.
  3. Have the children talk about what other things we can add to the mural.
  4. Talk about clouds.
  5. Ask the children: What other things besides the sun, the moon, and the stars;  we see on the sky ( the clouds) Why do we need the clouds? How do the clouds help us? (They give us rain)
  6. Distribute cotton balls, white tag board, and glue.
  7. Help the children make clouds.
