As the preparations for the Mahavir Jayanti Celebration program continue to move at a fast clip, let’s take a moment to recognize the army of volunteers who are already helping with the Puja, dances and skit. And those who will follow shortly to help with the stage decorations, video shooting, kitchen duties and more. It is these soldiers that help make a grand program like Mahavir Jayanti celebration a success.
Equally important has been the sponsoring for many different aspects of the program. To those who have already pledged, we sincerely thank you. We also still have one available sponsor category. Please consider pledging for this auspicious occasion, and contact Pritesh Shah if interested or need further details.

Mahavir Jayanti Celebration
The Mahavir Jayanti Celebration program is scheduled to be on April 24th. Planning is already underway and all involved are gearing up for another great event.
Mahavir Jayanti is one of the largest events sponsored by JSCNC, is open to everyone, and demonstrates the unity and generosity of the JAIN community. As an interesting note, the past two years’ events attracted approximately 350 participants, volunteers and guests!
The Executive committee puts in a lot of planning to cater for such an event, but your support is what really makes this program a grand success.
Taking part in the stage program is not the only way to participate/support. We are looking for volunteers and pledgers alike to help in many other ways. Here are some ways you can help:
A great thank you to all those who have already signed up to volunteer. To the volunteers, participants and all involved, we humbly ask that you provide your full cooperation to Program Directors and Choreographers. This will help tremendously to plan and execute this program smoothly. If there are any issues or concerns, please contact the Mahavir Jayanti Coordinator, Neha Mehta, or the President, Pritesh Shah.

Mahavir Jayanti Puja sign-up
Please be on the lookout for a separate detailed email on signing up your child(ren) for Puja participation.
Mahavir Jayanti Program Practice
Beginning this year, and contrary to the past, Pathshala will continue during the period between now and Mahavir Jayanti celebrations. This is to ensure that our children continue their learning of Jain religion in parallel to Mahavir Jayanti preparations and practices. There are still some exceptions, though. Please see the Pathshala Corner for complete information.
Mahavir Jayanti Program Rehearsal
The rehearsal (for program and Puja) is now finalized to be held on Monday April 18th from 6pm-10pm at the Hindu Center Main Hall.
Beginning in 2015, our children are now attending pathshala in a rental facility that has more room and better sitting arrangements. This provides a considerably better learning environment for them as we had outgrown the previous facility.
A side benefit that sprouted from this, was the reduced fees for renting the facility. As we had already collected Pathshala dues last year based on HSNC rental fees, there were some funds that remained over.
As such, the committee has decided not to collect Pathshala dues for all returning Pathshala students. We do have a few new students this year, and to keep it as fair as possible, we will be requesting the new students/parents for the Pathshala dues. To those parents, please watch out for a separate communication (phone or email) on this.
As a reminder, weekly Swadhyays are now held at Dr. Ramnikbhai and Lataben Zota’s residence.
Day/Time - Tuesdays, 5:15 PM to 6:45 PM
Place - Lata and Ramnik Zota's residence

Weekly Mahavir Puja
Every Saturday, a Mahavir Puja is performed at the Hindu Temple. Volunteers sign up to perform this Puja, and are assigned specific Saturdays.
The Puja is very simple and takes less than one hour. It is a great way to teach and prepare children with this important ritual, so that they find confidence in performing it during daily routine, special occasions or even pilgrimages in India. Children will learn how to perform the kesar Puja and all aspects of Asht prakari Puja.
Mrs. Rekha Banker, who coordinates weekly Puja, will be happy to demonstrate in person, and has several books with illustrations to help. If you are interested, please contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org or at (919) 676-4548.
Please visit http://www.jscnc.org and click Events. The calendar has the most up-to-date listing of all confirmed activities for the year. All the tithis (Lunar Days) are also posted on the online calendar. Here is a list of some key dates:
Mahavir Jayanti Program Practice
Beginning this year, and contrary to the past, Pathshala will continue during the period between now and Mahavir Jayanti celebrations. This is to ensure that our children continue their learning of Jain religion in parallel to Mahavir Jayanti preparations and practices. There are still some exceptions, which should have already been communicated by the Pathshala teachers. In short, the first Sunday Pathshala in March and the two Pathshalas in April will be utilized for practices, and as such there will be no Pathshala on those days.
