Dear Sir,

Mr. de László has received your card of yesterday for which he asks me to thank you.

He and Mrs. de László^[1] would be so glad if you would give them the pleasure of dining with them here tomorrow (Thursday) evening, and if you would come about 7.45 you and Mr. de László

Would have time for a talk before dinner. Only members of the family will be present, and the gentlemen will be wearing dinner jackets and black ties.

Mr. de László hopes you will excuse his not writing you personally, but he would not be able to do so until evening, and wishes you to have this as soon as possible.

My dear Philip,

I am endlessly sorry for not being able to accept your invitation for tonight but my dear old friend, Gabriel Wells,^[2] has already booked me. Tomorrow, on Wednesday, I shall have to go to Cambidge but from Thursday morning on I am free at any time. We have to discuss your book as well.^[3]
