OUTLINE OF PROPOSAL

PURPOSE: Hi we're students from Olin College of Engineering and we would like to ask a couple of questions to better understand people involved with community gardens.

DESCRIPTION: This is part of a project for a design course called User Oriented Collaborative Design. The goal of this course is to understand design as a people centered process. We are specifically trying to understand community gardeners in metropolitan areas

TECHNIQUES:

• Interviews, Recording (Audio/Visual), Notetaking, Daily Actions/Tour -- and ”in one’s shoes” (Trying)
• Everything will be confidential; will not post any personal pictures/video/audio/information online

RISK AND BENEFITS:

• Interested in visiting the gardens themselves and hope that we do not pose any risks.
• Cannot pay you for your time, although we are very grateful for you taking the time to talk with us,  and we can’t promise a product will be completed.
• Might learn some interesting things along the way too

PAYMENT: (NONE)

TIME COMMITMENT: no more than two hours of your time

We are specifically trying to understand community gardeners in metropolitan areas. We are interested in visiting the gardens themselves and hope that we do not pose any risks. We plan on interviewing you while taking notes, pictures and videos to document the process, but your information will remain entirely confidential. We will not post any Pictures/Video/Audio/Information online for public access.

Additionally, we are not able to pay you for your time, although we are very grateful for you taking the time to talk with us, and we can’t promise a product will be completed. However, you may learn some interesting things about the design process along the way. We are very flexible and will try to accommodate your time: we do not plan to spend more than two hours of your time. We would like to schedule a time to meet with you. If you are uncomfortable what we have said earlier, including note-taking, audio and video recording, demonstrating your daily activities, as well as the potential time used, please let us know and we will not do so. We really appreciate you taking the time to talk with us!
