I have no objection to the Portrait [7122] being lent for your exhibition, but I have passed your letter to Hunter Weston[1] to [start?] with the matter, as the picture belongs to the order[2] –

[1] Lieutenant-General Sir Aylmer Hunter-Weston (1864-1940) [1731], British army general and Scottish Unionist Member of Parliament
[2] The Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in the British Realm commissioned de László to paint Lord Scarbrough’s portrait [7122] in recognition of his many years as Sub Prior of the Order. The completed portrait was presented to the Order at their annual service and General Assembly on St. John Baptist’s Day, 24 June 1930. The portrait was exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists’ Autumn Exhibition in London in 1930 (the private view was held 4 November 1930). The following June it was exhibited at Exposition P.A. László in the Hotel Jean Charpentier in Paris.
