JAMAIS VU

A GROUP SHOW CURATED BY KASOCASO

Overview

Jamais Vu directly translates to “never seen” and is the opposite of deja vu. It is the phenomenon where something familiar suddenly feels new and unfamiliar, usually accompanied by a sense of unease. In the context of this show, the work should engage with old subjects and material in new and unfamilair ways, that the chosen artists feel matches this idea/experience. This could be from their own perspective, the viewers or both.

Goals

  1. To create a cohesive body of work that shows unique and new perspectives from local south african contemporary artists, particularly the current emerging artists within the scene.
  2. To show both the artistic and commercial value that young, independent artists in South Africa have when uniting under a common goal and theme.
  3. To continue to uplift and push the boundaries within the South African Art’s Community within Cape Town.
