I became interested in this story when it became apparent friends of friends and acquaintances of mine were involved. I’m not an expert on these events, and am not the most knowledgeable about the persons involved. Most of the time this isn’t even firsthand journalism so much as collecting quotes and sources, double checking them, and organizing them.

The most relevant facts and claims have been copy-pasted here, so that this can be the most thorough collection of facts, while balancing it against some organization and narrativization. However, for pure information collection, there’s no substitute for clicking every link and double checking everything yourself, and for a solid narrative experience, I would recommend the Wired Article

INTRO AND DISCLAIMERS

What I’m not talking about

-Basic background like who is Yud, CFAR, Rationalists, EAs, etc.

-Zizian’s accusations against the above. This isn’t to suggest their validity one way or another, it’s just not my area of expertise

-Ziz’s philosophical statements that could be interpreted as supporting murder, taking blame for suicides, etc. I’d like this document to be less speculative than that. This isn’t to say that there aren’t such posts though, and the Medium article has plenty of examples that seem to lend themselves to that interpretation. Although I would personally caution the reader against making interpretations from a writer so difficult to understand

The persons involved

-(will be referred to in this doc by their first name listed):

-All @s should be read as twitter handles unless otherwise stated.

-Most of the individuals below are transgender, which explains the amount of names and possible pronoun inconsistencies in official sources. Many of the individuals do not make themselves easy to contact online, so confirming pronouns is not easy and should not be interpreted as a personal slight or philosophical statement on the part of the author.

Ziz / Jack Amadeus Lasota

Vegan Transgender Anarchist Rationalist. Wrote a blog and attempted to create a communal living situation with other bay area rationalists by living cheaply on boats in the bay. Faked death. Currently wanted by the authorities as a person of interest in multiple criminal cases and for failure to appear in court.

(Jasper) Gwen Danielson

Invented “partial sleep” tech, also known as Unihemispheric sleep. Either faked her own death or committed suicide.

Maia Pasek / SquirrelinHell

Polish Transgender who corresponded with Ziz about philosophy. After being introduced to Gwen’s sleep tech, is assumed by many to have killed herself based on a post that was interpreted as a suicide note

IMPORTANT COLOR:

The origins of Ziz’s name is almost definitely from the Web serial novel Worm. Ziz is an alias of The Simurgh. Ziz makes at least one mention of it on her blog. In addition, 2 different anonymous sources have reached out to confirm that someone close to Ziz claims this is the namesake.

Are Zizians a real group?

Gwen, via her blog:

Attempting to erase the agency of everyone who agrees with our position

One tactic that several people have used in the attempt to silence our message is to erase the agency of the various people who chose to speak at the reunion and try to build the social reality that it was all Ziz’s doing–to paint us as mere “people who Ziz whipped up into a frenzy” or call us “Ziz’s followers/apprentices” or to talk about the opinion of the “Meeker 4” after hearing only one of us express an opinion. People have misattributed my scientific discoveries to Ziz (ie debucketing/hemispheres), called people who agree with us our “friends” (including people where that is nearly the opposite of true, and people we barely even know), and misattributed the authorship of the flyers at the reunion.

Octavia, in her interview:
I don't think [a cult is] a remotely accurate description…there's no organization, there's no centralization. It's not like we all have ziz on on speed dial and ask her what to do every day

What is debucketing / sleep tech/ unihemispheric sleep

Per Zizians.info

Ziz uses UHS as a secret she rations out to her followers. But the process itself is simple. To perform UHS:

You need to be tired.

You need to be laying down or sitting up. (It is important that you stay in a comfortable position that won't require you to move very much.)

In either case you want to close one eye and keep the other open.

Distract the open eye with some kind of engagement. (This works best if you have a partner who can help you.)

Eventually you should feel yourself begin to fall asleep on one side. That side will also become numb. (The degree of numbness is a good way to track how deep into sleep the side is.)

Once into UHS, it is supposed to be possible to infer which aspects of your personality are associated with which side of the brain. (This is a little farfetched, and the more likely explanation is that it disrupts peoples visceral sense of what is and isn't socially okay.)

One of the dangers of UHS is that it provides a false sense of rest after waking. If you pay close attention though you'll realize that you are inhibited and need real sleep. It's also unknown if UHS reveals a twin personhood or causes it by desynchronizing the sleeper. You might be giving yourself split personality by using this technique.

However, this is disputed by Octavia:
If I'm trying to like help someone work out what their their hemispheres are, and how their hemispheres are interacting with each other, and like, what's going on with their like state of internal cooperation…I've never needed to do unihemispheric sleep …like it's so goofy. It's kind of woo and it's like, unnecessarily cult ritual Vibes

Both Ziz and Gwen comment on it, but don’t describe any techniques, and both attribute it to Gwen’s invention

Gwen via her blog:
People have misattributed my scientific discoveries to Ziz (ie debucketing/hemispheres)

Ziz via her blog:

Towards the end of Rationalist Fleet, Gwen began following a certain course of investigation. “Partial sleep.” They told me, and did a presentation at the 2017 CFAR alumni reunion about Mental tech to let parts of your brain do REM sleep without the rest. On a granularity of slots of working memory.

THE TIMELINE OF EVENTS:

Before 2016: Ziz origins

BostonGlobe:
As a child, [Ziz] was precocious but struggled socially. In middle school, the teen was among a group of students who managed to infiltrate the school district’s payroll system and award huge paychecks to teachers they admired while slashing the salaries of those they despised, according to one teacher. [Ziz], the teacher said, struggled to regulate strong emotions, often erupting in tantrums.

Ziz was a 2013 SESI Summer Intern at NASA

Inquirer:

…[Jamie] became immersed in the Zizian movement through online message boards, and met some of the group’s members while interning with NASA in California.

2016-2018 - Pre-protest background

2016 - Ziz comes to town

Ziz moves to the Bay Area, with great difficulties. Moves in with Gwen.

‘Early’ 2017 - Maia visits U.S. For CFAR workshop, makes Rat community in Canary Islands

SFChronicle:

Then in early 2017, Pasek visited the U.S. to attend a workshop put on by CFAR

…
After returning to Poland, Pasek decided she should start her own rationalist community. She would launch the project in the Canary Islands, calling it the “Crow’s Nest.”

7.1.17 - Ziz and co. buy caleb, sail to the bay

SFChronicle:

…They ultimately set their sights on the Caleb, a tugboat in Ketchikan, Alaska, that was selling for a good price.

“Who wants to drive a tugboat from Alaska to the SF Bay?” [Ziz] wrote on Facebook on July 1, 2017. “Expenses will be covered.”

Within days, [Ziz] found willing passengers from the broader rationalist community. Among the five crew members was Dan Powell, a Navy veteran with general nautical mechanical experience. Another was a PhD candidate in computer science at UC Berkeley, who asked not to be named.

Powell said he met [Ziz] and Danielson through rationalist online groups, and became convinced that their Rat Fleet was a good investment opportunity. “The plan was initially to get a boat, move it into a livable slip inside San Francisco and then essentially rent it out as housing for a combination of ideological reasons and financial gain,” Powell recalled in an interview.

Powell bought the boat with [Ziz] and Danielson. And on July 20, 2017, the Caleb ventured into the chilly Pacific.

Days into the voyage, one of the crewmembers posted a 2-minute, 37-second video on YouTube set to the tune of “I’m on a Boat,” by The Lonely Island, Andy Samberg’s comedy troupe.

…

“Ziz led me to believe that she had established contacts in the Bay, and that it would be easy for us to at least get a slip, if not one that was approved for overnight use,” Powell said. “And as it turns out, when we were coming through the Inside Passage from Alaska, it was revealed that we did not have a place to arrive.”

The fifth crewmate, who spoke to the Chronicle on the condition of anonymity, said the trip was fairly smooth, other than a faulty sewage system in the only bathroom. Though [Ziz] and her associates came to hold extreme views on animal welfare and veganism, this person said the crew members, other than [Ziz] and Danielson, ate meat.

“Ziz was a little on the creepy side, but well below the scary threshold,” the crewmember said. “Ziz was just more confident than I thought she had the right to be … and she was abrasive about it.”

…

At one point, [Ziz] confronted the crewmate about being transgender. “I am not trans,” he said he told [Ziz]. “And Ziz was convinced I was. I told her to drop it and she dropped it.”

He left about four weeks into the journey, deboarding in Washington and taking a Greyhound bus home. Powell said he departed almost immediately after docking in the Bay Area, returning to work in New Mexico. He cut ties with Danielson and [Ziz] shortly thereafter. Overall, Powell estimated that he sank tens of thousands of dollars into the project — and recouped none.

Caleb Photos

On 2.8.25, an anon climbed onto the sinking Caleb to take photos. I didn’t instruct them to do this, but they did it, and sent me pictures. You can find the whole album here.

“The entire thing was full of holes, slippery, and it floods when the tide comes in. The picture with the fire extinguisher is the cabin. Please ignore the timestamp I was using a camera I got at a thrift store because I didn't want to bring my phone [onboard]. The entire boat was tilted at 30 degrees.”

2017 - Gwen develops sleep tech

Gwen gives a presentation on “partial sleep” at the 2017 CFAR alumni reunion (same event as the protest to come, but different year.)

Novemberish 2017 - Jessicat’s psychotic break

@Jessi_Cata experiences a psychotic break, during which Ziz offers to help her out in exchange for Jessica providing Ziz with information. Jessica turns her down.

December 2017 -  Maia meets Ziz

Maia starts commenting on Ziz’s blog, which leads to correspondence later

? - Gwen rediscovered debucketing.

“(A fact that had been erased from their mind long ago). Pasek was on the edge of discovering it independently, they both came to agreement shared terminology, etc”

2.27.18 - Maia’s suicide note posted

Maia posted a blogpost that was later interpreted to be a suicide note. You can find it here

3.28.18 - Maia commits suicide

SFChronicle:
In January 2018, Pasek broke off the relationship [with her ex-girlfriend, the anonymous source for this article]. The following month, she came out as transgender, changing her name from Chris to Maia. Around the same time, she began speaking of depression and suicidal thoughts. She told her ex-girlfriend, who remained on the island, she needed to fly to Poland for three weeks.

Pasek kept in touch throughout the trip. But the day she was supposed to return, March 28, her ex-girlfriend woke to terrible news from Pasek’s mother. Pasek had jumped off a building in Krakow. “She never came back,” the ex-girlfriend said.

Pasek had never mentioned Ziz or the theory of brain hemispheres to her girlfriend. The former partner said she first heard the name when reached by the Chronicle.

Sometime in 2018 - Gwen moves onto Curt Lind's boat

Rolling Stone:

"When Lind offered to let [Gwen] live on the Robert Gray with him and another tenant, a gardener who worked in San Francisco, [Gwen] jumped at the chance, and remained there for most of 2018."

September 2018 - Somni buys a boat

Openvallejo:

In September 2018, [Somni] purchased a 32-foot Rawson sailboat named Islander and signed a guest agreement to dock the craft at Marina Bay Yacht Harbor in Richmond, according to records obtained by Open Vallejo.

11.15.19 - Ziz, Emma, Somni, and Gwen protest at CFAR’s annual alumni reunion.

There’s been some confusion about this point, but although CFAR and MIRI have a lot of membership overlap, and although the Zizians’s issues are with both organizations, the event that was protested was a CFAR annual alumni reunion. MIRI was not involved in an official capacity whatsoever.

Zizians planned to host lectures at the reunion

Per Gwen's interview in Rolling Stone

"[Gwen] says they arrived at the Sonoma County retreat center prepared to mount a symbolic protest, but also to share their planned remarks: They had packed a canopy and whiteboards, and retrieved cushions from their boats with the intention of setting up a comfortable spot for anyone who wished to listen to their lectures.
…
The talks never happened: A representative for CFAR told [Ziz] and [Gwen] by email they were not welcome at the reunion. [Ziz's] writing, her behavior, the way she dressed had, by that point, begun to unnerve some individuals within the organization, including one who described being “viscerally terrified” by [Ziz] “in a way that I’ve never been viscerally terrified of anybody before or since.” "

11.15.19 - Ziz sends out a warning email

I received a copy of the email from an anonymous source. Since it was sent to hundreds of CFAR and MIRI recipients, it was easy to verify from another anonymous source.

On 11/15/19 3:36 am, Ziz wrote:

MIRI paid out to blackmail over statutory rape. Theft of donor funds to deceive donors. CFAR helped cover it up, implemented in part by their president and founder pushing anti-rationality, and anti-ethics, and perpetrating religious abuse, and using antitransfemist memes as a tool for gaslighting.

This is enough institutional betrayal to make anyone flinch into betrayal blindness. But that, along with "too big to fail", turns our only hope of survival into the fucking Catholic Church in the first place. If you do not want to die, you need to learn how to escape containment. You need to learn TDT that isn't fake or bounded in applicability even when everyone's lying to you about it, or the cycle will repeat. MIRI and CFAR started out as SIAI, an organization once functional enough to halt and pivot to AI alignment from accelerationism. They rotted. And this was furthered by choosing preserving the institution over the things that birthed it: the spark of magic in "actually, rationality! thinking better!", magic enough for e.g. being able to talk out of an AI box.

If you do not want to die with this plague consuming our world, then turn your hopes back to the hard-to-define things that generated these institutions that no longer deserve them.

[Ziz then links the following youtube video: Dr. Jennifer J. Freyd–Institutional and Interpersonal Betrayal]

Per Octavia, the intention of the protest was to block people from entering the venue. But because of some combination of either arriving late, the attendees arriving early, and the attendees from the previous event hosted at the site (which included multiple children) their actions were perceived as blocking exit from the venue. It was a dirt road in the country, so when the protestors blocked the roads with their vehicles, it would not have prevented anyone from walking out, but would definitely prevent them from driving out.

Per a secondhand account DMed to me from @Aella, there was only one road in and out of the event that was blocked. It was on a bridge, so to leave people would have had to go through the river, which is not feasible for children.

***Awaiting further confirmation from said account

“they parked a van sideways on the bridge”

According to Gwen in her Rolling Stone interview, the intent wasn't to disallow foot traffic:
“We just wanted them to walk past,” [Gwen] says. “There was plenty of parking room … outside the venue.”

At any rate, the official incident report (covered in full below) states that they blocked the entrances/exits

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

Sonoma County authorities are investigating a bizarre protest against a Berkeley nonprofit focused on rational thought after four people dressed in black robes and Guy Fawkes masks were arrested for allegedly barricading off a wooded retreat where the nonprofit group was holding an event.

The county sheriff’s office on Monday identified those detained at Westminster Woods in Occidental as Jack Lasota [Ziz], 28, of Berkeley; Gwen Danielson, 25, a transient; Emma Borhanian, 28, of Albany; and Alexander Leatham [Somni], 24, whose city of residence is unknown.

All four were arrested late Friday on suspicion of felony child endangerment, false imprisonment and conspiracy as well as misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, wearing a mask while committing a crime and trespassing.

Many aspects of the strange incident on Friday in Occidental remain a mystery, a sheriff’s spokeswoman, Misti Wood, told The Chronicle. The suspects were allegedly uncooperative and spoke incoherently, and Wood said investigators had to rely on fingerprints to identify them.

…

The Center for Applied Rationality issued a statement on Monday, saying it was familiar with some of the suspects: “Two of the individuals involved in this blockade had been asked not to attend our event as a result of prior erratic behavior towards our staff and others. Unfortunately, they instead took actions which disrupted things both for our guests and everyone else present at the camp. We were ultimately able to house our guests in an alternate venue on Friday night and then return to Westminster Woods once it reopened on Saturday afternoon, and our event proceeded on Saturday and Sunday without further incident.”

…

Police said the suspects arrived in a box truck, shuttle bus and Toyota Prius and used the vehicles to block the entrance and exit while dressed in black-hooded robes, black gloves, black silicone shoe covers and Guy Fawkes masks made popular by the movie “V for Vendetta” and the decentralized Anonymous hacktivist group.

Two of the individuals carried walkie-talkies, one wore a body camera and another carried pepper spray, officials said. Deputies found a written protest plan.

Wood said police received a report that one of the individuals might have a gun, which prompted a heavy response, including a SWAT team and a helicopter. No weapon was found, but the four protesters were physically and verbally combative with police officers at the scene and at sheriff’s headquarters, Wood said.

A fifth man was detained after claiming he was a journalist, Wood said, but he was released after deputies determined he had not committed a crime.

…

A group of two dozen children were on the ropes course at the time of the four-hour incident — which shut down a stretch of the Bohemian Highway about 4 miles from the well-known Bohemian Grove — and were sheltered in an armored police vehicle.

Here are the flyers reported to be from the protestors

From the incident report; (emphasis added)

Summary: Dispatched to a person with a gun at a rural conference center where adults and children were visiting. Several suspects

were contacted wearing black hooded robes, black gloves and anonymous Guy Fawkes masks. The entrances/exits of the property

were blocked by vehicles that the suspects had parked. The suspects refused to follow simple commands. Due to the actions of

the suspects, the staff believed they may have an active shooter. The staff radioed the possibly[sic] of an active shooter, which forced

staff and guests to include children to shelter in place. The actions of the suspects created an emotional and mental suffering to

several of the children who were visibly upset and distraught as a result of this incident. The suspects were told to leave the

property by staff, but refused. The suspects interfered with the business ability to conducted[sic] business.

I reached out to the camp, and they declined to give comment. It looks like the most concrete evidence we have of who alleged the possibility of the active shooter is the incident report above, which alleges it was the staff that were worried about the possibility of violence, not the CFAR attendees.

Allegations of police brutality

Gwen’s blog details alleged abuse suffered at the hands of the police during this arrest:

When we arrived, a staff member called the police and falsely told them that we had a gun (we didn’t), that we were going into buildings (we weren’t), and that they were too afraid to get off the phone; later reports said there was an “active shooter” with a duffel bag (none of us had a duffel bag). Police arrived with their guns out and we were immediately arrested (within about 10 minutes of us arriving), after which we were sexually assaulted (in my case, i was groped and had my pants pulled down and then sat on by an officer in a mounting position), two of us were gawked at by a group of about a dozen police looking at our naked bodies after pinning us down and cutting off our clothes (“Ha! I told you it was a man.”) and one had pictures taken of them front and back naked and pinned down, we had multiple types of serious and/or permanent medical harm intentionally inflicted on us (including hypothermia, concussion), we were starved for multiple days (I did not eat for five days, until bail was posted) having been denied vegan food as a bargaining tactic (as well as water, sleep, hormones, and medical care), were tortured and were repeatedly denied ability to speak with a lawyer (and had eg hypothermia inflicted on us and our clothes cut off (separate events) for asking to speak to a lawyer). (side note: guess the undead type of most of the police we encountered) The police called in 19 iirc swat units, an armored car, dogs, a bomb squad, and a helicopter; from the police report it appears that the police psychologically damaged a class of school children, and blocked a highway for hours. At our arraignment, the district attorney’s assistant for our case argued for our bail to be set $160,000 higher than normal, talking about the expense of the swat operation. Every one of the charges is ridiculous, and the sheer quantity of due process, constitutional, ethical and moral violations is astounding. They’re for example trying to charge us with child abuse for actions apparently committed by police officers.

Wired:

The police opposed a subpoena to release any video from the jail [related to the lawsuit alleging the above claims], calling them “privileged” files that would constitute “an undue burden” to sort through.

Rolling Stone:

Dan Kapelovitz, the lawyer who represented [Ziz] in her criminal case, was still fighting for video footage of her arrest, typically easy to obtain in situations like this one…

Police account of the protest

Wired:

…A new 911 call reported that one of the demonstrators was carrying a gun.

[Emphasis added]

…
[Officer Parks] and Ricks ordered the protesters to get on the ground. As they did, each one called out demanding a same-gender pat down, like one might request at an airport. All three were trans women, but Parks says he couldn't discern their genders because of the robes and masks. Regardless, “they were not going to get that luxury at that point in time,” he told me. “It's like, well, we don’t know if you’re a boy or a girl and we gotta handcuff you.” Parks’ deputies subdued the three in prone positions, what Parks calls “a high-risk-type takedown” requiring more force than “a normal handcuffing style.”

By now, the police had been told there might be five outsiders on the grounds, including one who was possibly carrying a hatchet. Many of the CFAR alumni hadn’t even arrived at the site, having received emails from organizers that they shouldn’t come. The children and their teachers had taken shelter in buildings on the property. As Parks and another deputy moved across a small bridge toward the camp, another robed figure approached them. When Parks yelled for them to put their hands up, he says, the protester—who was also a trans woman—fell onto her back, as if slipping on ice, then struggled briefly with a deputy while being cuffed.

Parks had ordered in the SWAT team, which proceeded to evacuate the children and teachers in an armored vehicle. With the help of a helicopter, the police spent hours searching the 200-acre complex for the fifth, armed protester. In the end, there wasn't one. “We later learned that it was actually a maintenance worker who had armed himself with the hatchet,” Parks says. The original reports of protesters carrying weapons had also been false. One had a can of pepper spray, but none of them had a gun.

Rolling Stone:

"Their lawyer later withdrew from that [police brutality] case."

11.16.19 - Emma posts bail

Emma posts bail with help from her family

11.19.19 - Bail for Gwen and Ziz is lowered, and subsequently posted.

From The Press Democrat:

Gwen Danielson, 25, who is homeless, and Jack Lasota [Ziz], 28, of Berkeley appeared in Sonoma County Superior Court Tuesday afternoon. Judge Mark Urioste lowered their $50,000 bail to $10,000 because the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office reduced two of the felonies to misdemeanors.

…

The initial felony charges for false imprisonment and child endangerment have been scaled back to misdemeanors. The four also face charges for resisting arrest, wearing a mask while committing a crime and trespassing.

The District Attorney’s Office declined to answer an inquiry about the reason for reducing the charges.

Co-defendant Emma Borhanian, 28, of Albany posted bail Monday and was in the audience at Tuesday’s arraignment. She declined an interview request.

Deputies detained three of the four suspects at gunpoint before they were able to make contact with the Center for Applied Rationality, the nonprofit the group sought to protest, according to the Sheriff’s Office. A second organization, the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, also appeared to be a target, according to flyers found on the property.

2019-2022: Zizians move, countersuit, threats

11.?.19 - Zizians move into Lind’s place

This is about the time where Somni, Emma, and Suri Dao begin renting at the lot from Curtis Lind per Patrick McMillan. The time frame given was “3 years ago” at the time of November 2022. They knew him somehow from the boat living community back in the “Rat Fleet” days. Confirmed by an Openvallejo article. In his interview below, Lind says he met them by selling them an anchor.

[NOTE:] People have been speculating about Daniel Powell, the third owner of Caleb besides Gwen and Ziz, not being seen. An anonymous source reached out to me to confirm that he’s alive and well, judging by his social media posts. If you want to confirm it with him, email morningconsisteight@protonmail.com

Per Bostonglobe, the group had begun living out of box trucks before even moving in with Lind due to the Caleb needing repairs.

Two box trucks that the Zizians lived in at this location were registered in Vermont.

1.x.20 - Zizians.info published

Zizians.info is published per websiteage.org. The anonymous author Identified as JD Pressman by Octavia, who also contributed to it, coins the term Zizian, identifies them as a cult, describes how to perform Unihemispheric sleep, and warns the community to stay away.

??? - Jamie and Alice Monday living in the bay area

BostonGlobe:

[Jamie] Zajko, the daughter of the slain Pennsylvania couple, used to live about 30 miles south of the [Zizian’s residence with Curt Lind], in a hillside apartment building in Albany. Her roommate, Alice Monday, was another figure on the far fringes of the rationalist community.

When a Globe reporter visited the apartment in Albany, the current tenant said [Jamie] and Monday had moved out a few years ago. But signs of their time there remained.

Mail addressed to them arrived often. A sticker pasted inside in the fridge, inside the butter compartment, repeated a single line five times: “Assume this phone is tapped.” The white curtains in the living room were stained with what looked like blood.

3.27.20 - Zizians stop paying rent

Governor Newsom declares a moratorium on evictions due to covid-19. It’s around this time the group living at Lind’s lot stop paying rent.

10.23.20 - Jamie registers to vote in VT

Per boston globe. In Coventry, VT.

??.??.21 - Jamie buys land

According to Derby town records, a [Jamie] Michelle Zajko bought a half-acre piece of property on Bates Hill Road in Derby in 2021 for $10,000. The land is undeveloped, according to town records. [Jamie] owes $974 in delinquent property taxes on that land, according to Derby tax records from tax years 2022 through 2024.

Voter rolls from last fall in the town of Coventry also list a [Jamie] Michelle Zajko at a separate address.

11.15.21 - Protestor counter-suit

The protestor group files a suit against Sonoma County, Westminster Woods, and various other individuals I assume are associated with the above organizations

2.3-4.22 - Jamie buys a gun, has CA DL

Bostonglobe:
Feb. 3, 2022
[Jamie] attempts to purchase a handgun in Irasburg, Vt., but is denied because she has a California driver's license.

Feb. 4, 2022

[Jamie] gets Vermont driver's license and buys a handgun, holster, and box of ammunition.

2.10.22 - PlumofDiscord /Jamie? threatened by Ziz

Jamie/Plum writes on her blog that she suspects Ziz is going to murder her. I would quote the relevant parts, but really the whole blogpost is relevant, so you should just open a new tab and read it.

Ziz wanted her to kill Alice Monday. Jamie and Alice Monday were dating. “[Jamie’s] aunt Rosanne Zajko told me. “She said that she and her girlfriend, Alice, would be moving to Vermont.” (wired)

From The medium article:
“
While I was reviewing this post, it was pointed out to me that the Tumblr user plumofdiscord is almost certainly Jamie Zajko. Jamie is a friend of Ziz, and a 2017 plumofdiscord essay (that she later deleted) discusses “trying to measure miRNA expression in the brain from miRNA in blood plasma” at an Ivy League school. The description matches a 2018 paper on miRNA that Jamie Zajko co-authored at a hospital affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania.”

Jamie refers to plumofdiscord in third person. May be a denial that Jame is Plum, but others have interpreted this as speaking in third person for dramatic effect.

“P.S. A little birdie told methat [sic] Plum had a brain tumor in 2021, which caused Plum to mishead[sic] Ziz on the phone. The call was recorded, & as it turns out no threats were made. That was why Plum took the post down.”

Jamie gives a timeline of the Alice Monday relationship

I stayed with Alice (on-and-off), from 2018 to May 2022.

Per @jimrandomh, Alice Monday seems to be alive and well, as there are traces of Alice’s online activity through 8.28.24

2.16.22 - Ophelia discusses said threat/kill order

With an anonymous source.

2.18.22 - Jamie Threatened by Ziz pt 2

Ziz writes a comment that Jamie interprets as a response to the above blogpost

Impostors keep thinking it’s safe to impersonate single goods. A nice place to slide in psyche/shadow, false faces, “who could ever falsify that I’m blaming it on my headmate!”

Saying you’re single good is saying, “Help, I have a Yeerk in my head that’s a mirror image of me. I need you to surgically destroy it, even if I’m then crippled for life or might die in the process. Then kill me if I ever do one evil act for the rest of my life. That’s better than being a slave. Save me even though it is so easy to impersonate me. And you will aggro so many impostors you’ll then be in a fight to the death(s) with. Might as well then kill me too if I don’t pass an unthinkable gom jabbar. That’ll make us both safer from them and I care zero about pain relative to freedom from my Yeerk at any cost.”

It’s an outsized consequentialist priority, even in a doomed timeline, to make it unsafe to impersonate single goods. Critical to the destiny of the world. The most vulnerable souls impostors vex. To bring justice to individual people, from collective punishment.

To which Jamie responds in the same day:

…This is not a direct quote of me but it’s close enough to count. She’s using my voice in a very real way.

"Might as well then kill me too if I don’t pass an unthinkable gom jabbar. That’ll make us both safer from them and I care zero about pain relative to freedom from my Yeerk at any cost.”

A gom jabbar is a term from Dune. It’s meant in this case as a test to see if you’re really human, and if you fail, you die. Except that wasn’t a gom jabbar because it wasn’t capable of identifying an impostor, it was asking me to commit to a suicide pact. We are on both sides of every evil act committed, and killing someone good is the same as killing myself. So I’m acting to stop her, as any good person would want to be stopped if they were going to commit an evil act.

It’s an outsized consequentialist priority, even in a doomed timeline, to make it unsafe to impersonate single goods. Critical to the destiny of the world. The most vulnerable souls impostors vex. To bring justice to individual people, from collective punishment.

I don’t know for certain, but I believe she is writing this in part because she believes she’s closing in on me. And that this whole comment (#8223) serves as both a confession and a justification of her actions and planned murder of me.

2022 - Alleged deaths + Caleb abandoned

3.12.22 - Gwen returns to move Caleb

SFChronicle:

The night of March 12, 2022, Danielson and her crew moved the Caleb to the harbor’s work dock, but staff explained the boat was too large to be there, harbor officials said. “Danielson and crew got into a vehicle and drove off and have not been seen at (Pillar Point Harbor) or near the Caleb since,” the harbor district’s lawsuit stated.

The Caleb had been abandoned. The harbor district, records show, wound up paying a marine salvage company to remove hazardous materials from the boat and anchor it away from the dock.

4.x.22 - Gwen presumed dead

Per Gwen's lesswrong post:

"There have been some reports that I faked my suicide, but that's not true. I was considering suicide, and I never said anything contrary to that. I never reported anything, I just left a note for Ziz and left on foot and had a very bad time for a while. "

An anonymous source reached out to me, saying he was at a hearing where Gwen’s lawyer said in April 2022, he was told Gwen committed suicide.

3.x.22 Gwen leaves the Zizians

Per Gwen's Lesswrong blogpost:

"In March 2022, I parted ways, due to a combination of mental collapse and a relational falling out. I ended up homeless for a while, then moved across the country to a place I had no connections, and encountered very kind people who helped me heal, to whom I am deeply thankful."

7.x.22 - Ophelia’s Bounty for Silver-And-Ivory/Suri

There’s significant reasons to believe silver-and-ivory is Suri Dao. They’re both ethnically chinese. (Silver posts about being adopted from china.) They’re roughly the same age. Silver claims to be 16 in 2017 (screenshot per @MLaGrangienne) and Suri is identified as 21 years old in 2021. Silver reblogged Somni, and commented on Ziz’s theories.Silver identifies as bigender and is afab (which would explain Curt Lind’s comments about her looking like a woman naked in the section “Curt Lind’s side of the story”).

Beyond all this, multiple anonymous sources have reached out to me to inform me they believe very strongly that Suri is Silver-and-ivory. And finally, an anonymous source showed me photographic evidence that Silver is indeed Suri.

You can also see a public photo of silver here and compare it with mugshots of suri from the medium article

Per @Jessi_cata, Suri/Silver had recently started to drop off the map after spending more time with Ziz. On Jessica’s advice, Ophelia privately offers a cash bounty for anyone who can find him. It was never met, even though he reached out to Ziz, who Suri was living with at the time.

        ***Verification on bounty appreciated

9.7.22 - Ziz faked death

Obituary for Ziz is published, alleging a boating accident that took place on 8.19.22.

Wired:
Naomi LaSota, reported that her 31-year-old brother had fallen overboard, somewhere south of the Bay Bridge. Naomi, Ziz, and [Emma] had gone out for an afternoon sail on Ziz LaSota’s boat, the Black Cygnet. But as they were heading back to the marina, Naomi reported, her brother—as she referred to Ziz in her communications with the Coast Guard—had leaned over the motor and fallen in.

…
The [Coast Guard] crews searched through the night, obtaining “fatigue waivers” to forgo their normal shifts to keep going. They ran patterns through the Bay out under the Golden Gate Bridge, from Yerba Buena Island all the way to Land’s End and back down the shore through San Francisco. They returned with only “negative results,” in search-and-rescue-speak. There was no sign of the person who’d fallen overboard.

At 3 am, [Ziz’s] sister called for assistance again. After the Coast Guard boats had moved on to where [Ziz] might have drifted, the other two had no idea how to sail back, and the Black Cygnet was now drifting near some rocks. A Coast Guard unit was diverted from the search to tow it into a marina. By 9 am, the operations center had coordinated with the missing boater’s other next of kin. At around 5 pm, after 18 hours, the Coast Guard told [Ziz’s] family that they were suspending the search. Their computer modeling, they said, showed [Ziz] could not have survived that long in the water.

11.3.22 - Ziz and Gwen deaths confirmed and denied in court

Court document suggests Ziz and Gwen have died:

Mr. Friedman reported that he had been unable to communicate with Ms. Danielson and that she was rumored to have committed suicide. Mr. Friedman further reported that Mr. [Ziz] fell off a boat into San Francisco Bay. There were witnesses and a U.S. Coast Guard search, but no body was found. Mr. [Ziz] had not responded to his counsel’s efforts to communicate.

This supplemental notice is based upon information provided by Plaintiffs’ counsel Jerold

Friedman in an email dated October 26, 2022, advising of the death of Plaintiff Jack Lasota [Ziz]

Court document suggests that Gwen’s Lawyer doesn’t believe she’s actually dead

“Plaintiffs [Lawyer of Gwen, ziz, etc.] have previously objected to and continue to object to Defendants’ Suggestion of Death of Plaintiff Gwen Danielson on the grounds of her rumored suicide being speculative and unconfirmed.”

11.13.22 The altercation between Lind and Zizians and Emma’s death

This is the most contested part of the series of events, so pay attention to the color-coding

Somni, Suri Dao, and Emma were renting from Curtis Lind at 600 block of Third Street, Vallejo CA. They are parking multiple box trucks there.

Zizian’s side of the story Per Octavia:

“the rent moratorium ends, and he decides to say I would like you to pay rent now. And they go ‘no, uh, evict us.’ and the reason they say “no evict us,” is because this is something that queer poor leftists just do all the time. You get into a place…somewhere that you know you do not have enough money to pay for…but you know that if you say “evict us” you know we're gonna make you jump through all these legal Hoops. kick us out, because kicking us out takes, you know, up to you know a year or two potentially to go through the court.”

…

In the meantime, from what I understand, the RV that they were living in was also like–they were trying to fix it so they could actually drive it somewhere…like they were trying to like get it into working order”

…

at some point Somni was sufficiently spooked that she bought a flak jacket to wear…she was wearing a flack jacket during the incident where the landlord got stabbed.

…

Emma gets shot and dies. Somni gets shot three times but she's wearing like a bulletproof vest, so she survives. She has a katana and has and has stabbed the landlord with it

…

Like this was not a clean “We snuck up on him and got in a lethal blow,”...according to like I believe the police account and the news stories, they're reporting on it as if the landlord was acting in self-defense. But that still an ongoing criminal investigation, and you know that's still kind of up in the air. But what like, whoever started it, there was a lot of exchanges on both sides, and it was not like clean

…

his story is that they jumped him, and he you know, managed to not die and shot back and protected himself

…

I don't know, like I have a katana. I am very aware of exactly how lethal it is, and if they did get the drop on him, then why did he survive to retaliate?...It seems very obvious to me that there was like an actual altercation, like they were probably having a verbal argument that escalated before any sort of weapons got involved. I don't think it was one party jumped the other. Nobody was expecting it, I think it just blew up.

Octavia made it clear to me that she wasn’t there, and this is the account from the group of people who were there as communicated to her.

Zizian’s side of the story per aflowerbyanothername

The tumblr post from user aflowerbyanothername tells the story of the lind altercation from a pro-zizian standpoint. I’ve copied and pasted the factual claims from the post here below:

“Curt Lind and his ex-CIA best friend, Patrick McMillan, spent months threatening Emma and her friends.

Unlike what the papers claim, Emma and her friends weren't squatters -- they were tenants who were struggling to find jobs or a place that would lease to them after MIRICFAR called a SWAT team on them in 2019.

This is true. They weren’t squatters, they were tenants that had legally been told to vacate the premises, as evidenced by “the legal side of the story” below.

Members of CFAR's staff called the police and falsely claimed that Emma and her friends brought weapons to a peaceful protest in 2019. Subsequently, Emma and her friends were charged with trumped-up nonsense crimes following that protest, crimes which made it difficult for them to find housing or work.

Eventually, they managed to find a shady landlord who would let them park their trucks on his lot.

That man was Curt Lind, the man who would eventually shoot Emma's friend SL six times, and murdered Emma.

***I need to look up what gun curt registered, as it would be possible to tell how many bullets it had. [Not possible, not public info]

…
Sometime during COVID, Emma and her friends became unable to afford rent, in addition to the cost of their attorneys. They prioritized paying the attorneys, since losing that court case would be a worse fate for them than homelessness.

In 2022, they were still battling those trumped up charges from 2019. The police and Sonoma County court threw out the evidence that supported Emma and her friends' testimonies, including body cam footage. It was a mess of flagrant bizarre lies on the part of the prosecution and police.

So, they couldn't pay Lind anymore, but Lind couldn't evict them due to the COVID moratorium on evictions, which lasted through March 2022. Eventually, Lind escalated to slipping threatening notes under their doors, and making sinister threats about how he intended to commit violence.

He was explicitly transphobic, believing that Emma and her friends, who were trans, were "men posing as women." At some point, he heard rumors from the community that Emma and her friends were members of a cult, and started telling other tenants that they were strange and sinister, in an effort to alienate them from their neighbors.

This culminated in one of the other tenants jumping one of Emma's friends when she was leaving her home to go to the market. The tenant tackled her to the ground and started punching her head repeatedly. Curt Lind refused to stop him, and refused to evict him afterwards, even though this attack was clearly unprovoked.

Meanwhile, Emma and her friends had been continually receiving death threats from various parties in the rationalist community, over the course of years. Ziz's parents were doxxed, Emma herself was threatened repeatedly. There were numerous attempts to blackmail them, all of which failed. Someone even credibly threatened to bomb a rationalist meetup and blame it on her. Others threatened to SWAT her again.

When one of Emma's friends fled an abusive rapist stalker, members of the community fearmongered that Emma and her "cult" were behind that friend's "disappearance," all the while the community was working in tandem with that friend's former abuser to find them. They threatened to call the police and tell them that Emma and her friends had murdered her friend!

That's obviously untrue, and some of these individuals knew that and were using that friend's choice to stop speaking to their abusive ex as a means to create pretext to have another SWAT team called on false pretenses to Emma's home. It was an unending nightmare for them of terrifying, insane threats from every corner.

…

In the weeks leading up to Emma's death, Lind made a number of specific threats. SL grew so scared that she started wearing a bulletproof vest every time she left her home. She feared that a threat to her life was imminent.

…

Early one morning in November 2022, Curt Lind left his trailer and walked across the lot, approaching Emma and SL in front of Emma's home in Vallejo. The night before there may have been an argument, but that morning Emma and her friends were packing their things, preparing to leave the lot. Lind was angry that Emma and her friends intended to take him to court, and had filed paperwork to that effect.

This last sentence is not true. There’s no record of any lawsuit being filed in 2022 with any of the zizians as plaintiffs and with Curt Lind as a defendant. Per the superior court of solano county california.

There’s no way to get a record of a lawsuit not existing, so you can double check for yourself with this form.

The only possibility of the above statement being true is that they filed incorrectly and it was thrown out.

So that morning, he decided to stop them. He walked all the way from his trailer to their trucks, while they were packing their things, and opened fire.

Lind shot Emma point-blank through her heart and lung. She collapsed to the ground, and immediately her lung began filling with her heart's blood. She died within twenty seconds, violently coughing up chunks of her lung tissue in a futile attempt to clear her airways.

[Somni] was shot six times, rushing in a futile effort to save Emma's life. The vest saved her life, but she was still hit through the neck and stomach. She acted only in self-defense.

Their friends had been asleep. It was early in the morning. They woke to the sound of gunshots and separately rushed outside, but hid when they saw Lind staggering about, still brandishing his gun. He'd already emptied his entire clip, but they didn't know that. He left to seek out McMillan, and once he was gone, they found Emma and SL lying on the ground in growing pools of their own blood.

A friend ran back inside to call an ambulance.

…
When the EMTs arrived, they carried Emma's body to them, risking arrest in the hope of a miracle. The cops who arrived with the EMTs threatened to shoot them, gave them contradictory orders -- get on the ground, don't move, put your hands up -- they ignored them, and explained that there was another victim, that they needed to go back because their friend was dying and someone needed to keep her breathing.

The EMTs and cops didn't give a shit. They dawdled, focusing on threatening them and cuffing them over saving Lind's victims. SL survived because SD came back and kept her breathing, only to later be arrested for their efforts.

When the EMTs announced that Emma was dead, Emma's friend howled like a wounded animal.

Curt Lind’s side of the story

Per Rolling Stone:
Police say Lind did not identify [Ziz] as one of his attackers.

Curt Lind gave an interview for a documentary of an unrelated nature on 8.21.24, in which he gives his own account of the entirety of his relationship with the zizians: (If you’re a documentary filmmaker interested in collaborating with him, reach out to @Rudebot_Docs on twitter)

“And they came to me because they needed an anchor, because they were dragging anchor. They were anchored out because that's the cheap way to go. And so I sold them an anchor and they came and asked different questions and this and that.

And over a period of time, I found out that they were guys that were changing to women and so, you know, I got to be pretty friendly with some of them, friendly enough so that I took one of them to a Walmart to buy his first bra. And he came out and showed me and asked my thoughts. And, you know, all that.

And so, after a while, I decided that it was time for me to retire from shipping. And I sold the vessel that I was on there and moved into my yard. They had been talking to me, and they were unhappy with living on the tug[Caleb]. They decided that they wanted to move to my yard and buy moving vans, small moving vans, and change them into places where they could live in the moving van and nobody would know that they're in there.”

Interviewer: “And how many people were there?”

“It was a fairly large group, and it changed from time to time, like wherever it averaged, probably 6 or 8 people. Okay. But sometimes there would be new people that I'd never seen in the yard.

I wanted to make some money with the yard, and so I rented them out. 2 or 3 Harvey trailers to live in and space to put their trucks. And, as time went on, they became less and less friendly. And there was a big change, you know, from time to time. One of them actually worked at, one of the large computer companies in the area and things like that.

And they would take their new RV truck moving van and park it there in the parking lot and live in it for a while there. But, over the first, you know, like 3 or 4 months, then…new Covid rules came in, and I couldn't, they didn't have to pay. They came to me and told me that they weren't going to pay, and there was nothing I could do about it. So this went on for two years, and it got to the point where if they saw me, they'd run away and go in one of their trailers or one of their trucks.

And, so I went to court, to Superior Court and got a judgment against them when it was legal to do this. And the judgment was for $62,000 in back rent*. But I didn't expect to get it because I didn't think that they had any money. So I was in the process of getting them kicked out, where the sheriff actually comes and tells them they've got to leave right now, and anything that they can't take with him, they lose.

*Confirmed by the judgement, full excerpt below in “The legal record’s side of the story”

[NOTE:] Per the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, quoting CCP 1174, the landlord has to hold items the tenant leaves behind for 15 days in a secure location. They can charge the tenant for this service. If they don’t come back within the 15 days, the landlord can either dispose or retain of the belongs, or sell it at a public sale if the property is worth over $700

Wired:
“According to the account that Lind gave police—and that his tenant Patrick McMillan gave the local news—the group learned that the county sheriff would be pursuing the eviction on November 15.”

So they're worried about where they were going to go and what they were going to do. And they had a meeting with me, and the meeting was about them staying for another two months and not paying. I said, no, I can't do that. So one of them took out a knife–it was a folding knife. It was a fairly large folding knife. And started patting the blade in his hand like this and looking at me and smiling.

I immediately turned around and ran away. The next day I went and bought a pistol that fit in my jacket pocket. And got a license to carry a pistol. Then, two days before the sheriffs were going to show [up] here…one of them came up to me, one called Suri. She was very small and looked like a woman actually, when she took all her clothes off**, and she was an Asian. But anyway, she came to me and said that water was leaking into her trailer and making a mess, and that they wanted to do something about it. I said, “well, just turn the water off.” She said, “well, I don't know how to do that.” And I explained it to her and she says, “I still don't know how to do that.” So I said, “okay, I'll go and turn the water off.” So I went to turn the water off and the water is very close to the ground on the outside of the trailer, and I bent over to turn it off.

**@Rudebot_Docs who conducted the interview says that off-camera, Curt mentioned that the zizians would sometimes walk around naked.
        Confirmed
Per Fox 2 video:

“Residents say [the zizians] often walked around nude and talked to themselves”

And, I got hit by something. I don't remember anything from then. On the whole side, the right hand side of my skull was shattered. My nose was shoved over flat. And the next thing I remember is standing up with three of them right next to me, you know, or around me. And I was bleeding from numerous puncture wounds. I think around 50. I couldn't see out of my right eye. Had been punctured three times. the back of my neck had some severe cuts. Like somebody was trying to cut my head off.

You know, I had no idea what had happened or when this had all happened. I was completely gone while this was happening. And how I stood back up or got to that spot. I have no idea. But I looked at all the blood coming out of me. Oh, and I had a sword. A long sword all the way through my chest, right next to my heart, sticking out the other end. Which I went to the hospital with. I was afraid to take it out. But anyway, at that time I pulled out my pistol and started shooting. I killed the person to my right. The person to my left, I shot 2 or 3 three times. I think it did not kill him and I ran out of bullets. And so I just walked away. They didn't know I was out of bullets and so they didn't stop me or do anything”

…

Interviewer: “how many people are in jail right now?”

“There's only two people in jail. The rest of them took off.”

Interviewer: “How many do you think took off?”

“Let's say 4 or 5 took off in between…this group of people was larger than I knew. And there were some of them. And I guess in New York.

[NOTE: He may be confusing New York for Pennsylvania, as it sounds like he’s referring to the Zajko killings, as referenced below]

And they got those people to kill their parents, and they sent them an email, I think it was an email? But they sent them some kind of a communication that was available to the public later on, that told them how to mix these chemicals together and set it up so that they could put their parents in this boiling pot. And in three hours they'd be liquid. And they killed their parents, but they never did get to that point. They got caught and they're in jail now.

[NOTE: he may be referring to Ziz being held on obstruction charges. If he is, he doesn’t seem to know that Ziz got out on bail 2 months before this interview]

Now, the same exact chemicals that they talked about killing those people's parents with, and the same set up with a pot they had in one of their trucks here.

[NOTE: this may refer to the lye in the truck that his bodyguard claims he found].

And being that they tried to cut my head off, I think that they had the same idea for me. But I don't know that for a fact. All I know is that we found the pot, we found the chemicals, and one of them, my son, came almost immediately, and he was here while I was in the hospital. And one of them, he caught one of them running, trying to run away with those chemicals.

…

These people are pretty smart. So [they] do things like they have mental problems, they have this, they have that. They stop eating, doing things so that they can't be brought into court.

I think that's all over now. I think the judges decided that, you know, they're just doing this to try and get around the legal problems. And so, that's why I'm going to court on the 28th and then 29th

(of August 2024, if he means the same month he gave the interview)”

The news’s side of the story

Per the San Francisco chronicle:

A stunning confrontation in a Vallejo trailer yard left two people shot and an 80-year-old man impaled with a sword early Sunday morning, according to a witness who said he found the man soaked in blood.

“He came banging on my door with a sword sticking through him,” said Patrick McMillan, a tenant who lives in a mobile home on the property, and described the stabbing victim as his landlord and best friend.

Police said they headed to the lot on the 600 block of Third Street at 7:24 a.m. after receiving reports that a man had been attacked. When they arrived, they found the stabbed property owner, who McMillan identified as Curt Lind, as well as two people suffering from gunshot wounds. McMillan said that Lind shot the two people as they attacked him.

One of the people shot, a 31-year-old Vallejo resident, died at the scene, while the other had to be rushed to the hospital, along with Lind. Both of them were in critical condition, police said. Officers said they arrested a suspect and are trying to ascertain the person’s “true identity.”

Police have released few details about the case, saying they are investigating the motive and circumstances that led up to the bloodshed.

The burst of violence apparently stemmed from an eviction battle that had recently escalated, McMillan said, adding that he believed Solano County sheriff’s deputies were scheduled to move several people from the property on Tuesday morning.

Lind had purchased the lot at the edge of the Napa River, filling it with 20-foot trailers and shipping containers so he could rent them to people who couldn’t afford the cost of housing in Vallejo, McMillan said. Besides providing a cheap dwelling, Lind wanted tenants to have space to start a business, according to McMillan. Lind lived on the property in his own trailer, McMillan said, and often picked up trash from the surrounding streets.

The group he was attempting to evict lived in a cluster of trailer trucks, McMillan said, and initially paid rent, but stopped at some point during the pandemic. After McMillan took steps to remove them, they began brandishing knives and throwing rocks onto Lind’s trailer from a nearby hill.

“He had an agreement that they were going to fix up their vehicles, and then they were going to leave,” Lind’s daughter, Dina Morrill, said on Wednesday, during a phone interview from the local hospital where her father is slowly recovering.

She said the [Zizians], instead of holding up their end of the deal, stayed put and ultimately overtook the property, placing locks on trailers that were intended for other people.

…

On the night of the attack, McMillan said he saw individuals running through the yard with headlamps. At some point, a distressed Lind called and said people were pummeling his door and windows with rocks. McMillan believes that multiple people tackled Lind and stabbed him.

Lind survived the attack but was hospitalized for a month, eventually losing his right eye

The legal record’s side of the story

A judgement from 10.27.22 shows that Curt Lind was telling the truth. He sued the tenants to evict them, and won, at least in part, because they did not appear in court. He was awarded a little over $60,000 in back rent, holdover damages, and other costs.

Vallejo Police Department Public Log shows that there was a 9/11 call made from the 600 Block of 3rd street [Lind’s lot] on 11.13.22 at 1:47am. Description says “suspicious circumstances” and Disposition says “unable to locate.”

This fits in with the LA Times: account that states that Patrick McMillan called the cops because someone was walking around with a headlamp around 2am.

Medical equipment + lye + laptops left behind

Afterwards, Lind hired an armed bodyguard named Jenkins. From the SF Chronicle:
“He also helped clean out the box trucks, which were cluttered with medical equipment — including needles and an ultrasound machine — and containers of lye.”

(I spoke with a friend of mine who works in ultrasound, who said that ultrasound machines can be used for inserting needles properly by measuring bloodflow, and ultrasonic cleaning. However, an Ultrasound tech I know doubted it could be used to help inject estrogen)

On the topic of using needles to inject estrogen, Twitter user @moshi_meow_says
“Many people prefer injections to pills since [intramuscular] and [subcutaneous] can have days to weeks half life depending on what formulation, but pills are ~hours”

Multiple other people on twitter confirmed injecting estrogen as a common method

LA Times:

[Curt Lind’s friend Thomas] Young said that after the sword attack, he had entered the tenants’ trucks and found dozens of computers, all expertly encrypted. “I’m an engineer,” Young said. “I can recognize the high level of skill these people had.”

…

[Young] said he called and emailed Vallejo police, informing them that he still had all those computers and hard drives the tenants had left behind. Perhaps they would prove useful in figuring out who these people were.

But no one got back to him, he said. It wasn’t until late February, after he complained to local media, he said, that the district attorney’s office called.

Suri and Somni’s in prison

Wired:
To the distress of [Somni] and her family, she was being housed in a men’s jail despite demanding to be placed in a women’s. And to the bafflement of Dao’s lawyers, Dao demanded to be placed in a men’s lockup after being assigned to a women’s.

Both Suri and Somni are arrested, and try to escape over the years:

“In February 2023, Leatham tried to escape again, prosecutors said. When deputies took her to a Vallejo courthouse for a hearing, Leatham requested a wheelchair. As the deputy went to get one, Leatham allegedly ran out of the transport truck but got caught at a cyclone fence.

In July 2023, Dao tried to escape a jail cell, records show. Prosecutors said Dao pretended to be choking and having a seizure; after officers determined the prisoner was fine and left the cell, Dao ran toward the door. The closing door pinched Dao’s hand, officials said, requiring hospital treatment.”

SFChronicle:

…court records show there had been jail communication between associates of the fringe group since the 2022 attack. Authorities said [Ziz] was recorded in one jail call encouraging [Suri] Dao to escape from custody; prosecutors said she later attempted to run out of her cell.

Wired:
Both defendants’ lawyers argued that their clients were mentally incompetent to stand trial. This despite [Somni’s] objecting to having a lawyer at all, much less being declared insane. In her letters to the judge and outbursts in court, she insisted her thinking was not only sane but logical. “My coercively assigned council do not represent me,” she wrote in July of 2023. “I am rational. I do not have a ‘mental illness’ and I do not need ‘treatment.’”

…

The judge disagreed. Based on testimony of doctors, he ruled that [Somni] was “developmentally disabled and incapable of cooperating with counsel in the conduct of their defense, and understanding the nature and purpose of the proceedings now pending against them.” [Somni] was committed to a mental health facility in Porterville, California, for a maximum of four years. [Somni] would only go to trial if the facility, and then the judge, determined she’d returned to fitness.

In August 2023, Dao's attorneys asked that the criminal proceedings be suspended, believing that Dao was incompetent to stand trial. In a filing to the court, they wrote that their client had been suffering from depression, psychosis, and suicidal thoughts since the termination of their hormone therapy and had begun engaging in “self-mutilation.” Dao, they told the court, “will not speak to attorneys, doctors, the court, or anyone else,” “lacks awareness of court proceedings,” and “appears mentally vacant, incognizant, and to be suffering from some type of dissociative identity disorder.” Dao’s own attorneys also cited “transgender issues”—including their client’s wish to be referred to as “they” and placed in a men’s jail—as an “objective manifestation” of Dao’s incompetence.

…

[On 1.16.25] it appeared the trials of Leatham and Dao were, at long last, going forward. They’d both been declared competent [Emphasis added]

Suri’s identity confirmed as Tessa Berns

SFChronicle:

Deputy District Attorney Ilana Shapiro has repeatedly questioned Dao’s identity in court hearings, saying Dao’s adoptive mother has identified them as Tessa Berns.

Complicating matters, witnesses in the stabbing case told investigators the defendant had at the time of the incident gone by neither Dao nor Berns, but “Silver and Ivory.”

…
Police found no evidence that someone named Suri Dao had been on Lind’s property before he was stabbed, but did find “a lot of indicia in the name ‘Tessa Berns,’” Shapiro said at one court hearing. Investigators reported finding a Nevada driver’s license for Tessa Berns after Lind’s stabbing, though they did not specify where.

…
Investigators additionally deduced through jail calls that the defendant was adopted from China, and that their adopted mother’s name is Ann — details that match those of Berns.

There’s much more evidence that Suri is Tessa in the article linked above, I just quoted the hardest pieces here.

11.13-14.22 Ziz found at crime scene

Ziz was found at the scene of the crime:
It’s not clear exactly where LaSota was during the violence. But hours after the incident, Jerold Friedman — who had represented LaSota in a civil suit against Sonoma County over the protest response — received a surprising email from a Solano County prosecutor.

“I just wanted to reach out and let you know that Jack Lasota was contacted by police in Vallejo [California] this weekend,” the prosecutor wrote. “Lasota was on scene, alive and well.”

Though she was on Lind’s property at some point during or after the incident, and was handcuffed at gunpoint by police, LaSota was never charged. She was taken to Vallejo police headquarters, where a homicide investigator said she faked a medical emergency and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

A month after the Lind attack, at a hearing on the Sonoma County protest, Borhanian’s attorney alerted the court that she was dead. Prosecutors dismissed her charges.

“As far as how this case deteriorated, I’ve never experienced anything like it,” Friedman said.

Wired reports that Ziz gave the name Julia Dawson when questioned.
“The blond friend of the group, who police said gave her name as Julia Dawson, was taken to the station for questioning. But after having what appeared to be a medical emergency, she was sent to the hospital as well. From there, she quietly slipped away.”

Octavia says Ziz wasn’t at the scene of the crime, noting that it would not make sense to fake her death and then show up at a crime scene. This statement was made at a time where the evidence above of Ziz’s presence was less concrete.

Late 2022-Early 2023: Someone identifying as Gwen detained at Vallejo property

Per Rolling Stone:

[Gwen] was not on the scene the day of Lind’s attack, Vallejo police confirm, but several days afterward, someone who gave police [Gwen's] name was detained at the Vallejo property, according to public records. [Gwen] denies they have been back to the property, and they shared personal records with Rolling Stone that indicate they were in another state at the time; they believe it was [Ziz] who gave their name to police. (A lawyer representing [Ziz] declined to comment for this story.)

Dec 2022 - January 2023 - The Pennsylvania Murders, Daniel Blanks Disappearance, and Ziz’s arrest

Background: Jamie’s relationship with her parents

On this blog, Jamie writes:

It was less “stand up tall” and more, “if you talk about this you’ll embarrass yourself more than us. We abuse you because you need to be abused to be good, and if anyone finds out it would be humiliating for you. And they might take you away from us and put you in foster care where you’ll be raped and beaten every night. You don’t want that, do you? Also we are friends with the local judge, and will know if you report us. And if you ever try to run away again, I’ll kill you. I mean it.”

They were like comic book villains in their devotion to evil.

Another blog post:
i’d never heard of a vegan before, and had grown up being viscerally upset at my family because they kept sneaking corpses of rabbits into my food, because they wanted to make sure i’d be just as complicit as them. (when i’d say, “i don’t want to eat that,” they’d say i ate it before and was a hypocrite. i was not allowed to leave the table under threat of physical violence until i finished everything on my plate, and got more lectures than i can count on how animals “don’t have feelings,” and “were put on this earth by god for us to eat, so you’re disrespecting the almighty,” that “cows need to be regularly milked or their udders hurt,” and that my empathy for them was a sign that i was going to become a dangerous mentally ill person, and that if i talked like i did they’d end up “needing to” lock me up, with the implication that the state would help/agree with them. i think the exact phrases they used were something like, “cart me off to the (crazy) farm.”)

A rationalist told me that Jamie Zajko’s parents had at least several million dollars worth of assets and Jamie was their only child, so the police may see her as a suspect because of the financial incentive instead. Another person I spoke with said that they thought it was more likely that Ziz would have a financial motive in this than that Jamie would.

Not the best source, but below it’s reported by news outlets that they own multiple homes in PA

Jamie, Alice Monday, and Daniel Blank living together?

VTDigger:

According to Coventry town records obtained by VTDigger, [Jamie] and another individual named Alice Monday filed proof of residency forms at the Webster Road home in early 2021.
…
Both Monday and [Jamie] had registered to vote in Coventry the previous October, and both remain registered in the town. [Jamie] voted at the address in 2020, according to Deb Tanguay, the Coventry town clerk. (Tanguay said she had no record of a Daniel Blank living at that address.)

The Coventry property was purchased by a trust in 2021 and then sold again in July 2023, according to property records and Nicholas Maclure, a co-owner and broker of the real estate firm Century 21 Farm & Forest, which handled both transactions. According to public records, [Jamie] lived there as a tenant while the building was owned by the trust.

In an interview, Maclure said that he was “under the impression that ([Jamie]) had been gone for quite some time” at the time of the 2023 sale.

“When we sold that house, it was completely vacant,” Maclure said.

12.15.22 - Daniel Blank’s Disappearance

Wired:

[Daniel] Blank, a cisgender man whose blog showed him captivated by LaSota’s ideas, was noted in the court file as having delivered one of [Somni’s] lengthy objections to the court.

…

[Daniel Blank] had once delivered court documents for [Somni]

Per namus.gov

Last known contact from Daniel Blank before he goes missing. Last known location Media, Pennsylvania 19063

While this information was true at the time of publishing, Daniel would be identified in the sections below.

However later, @Jimrandomh, a twitter user who purports to have known Daniel, said

“He joined a work call text-only on Dec 29 and said "Yeah, everything's okay. Expect my absence for awhile though."”

12.31.22 - The pennsylvania Zajko murders

6abc:

“Police believe [the following] is not considered to be a random act of violence”

“Richard, 72, and Rita, 69, were landlords renting out several homes in Aston.”

Delcotimes:

A message to [Jamie] from Rita Zajko on Dec. 16 references savings bonds that [Jamie] Zajko was believed to be the recipient of. Rita Zajko also messaged her daughter Dec. 31, 2022, wishing her a happy 30th birthday and apologizing for whatever she and her husband had said or done to their daughter.

[Jamie] did not respond to that message. Her parents were killed approximately nine hours later.

Investigators noted it takes about 7½ hours to drive to Chester Heights from Vermont and that cellphone activity for [Jamie] Zajko, [Daniel] Blank and [Ziz] appeared unusually quiet during the hours leading up to the shooting. Those phones remained in Vermont.

From Sfchronicle:

Investigators also discovered the Ring doorbell camera footage, captured by the neighbor across the street.

The video, starting at 11:29 p.m., showed that an unknown vehicle pulled into the Zajkos’ curved driveway, adjacent to the front door, and turned off its headlights. A minute later, the screams could be heard from the surveillance feed, the affidavit states.

Twenty-four seconds elapsed between the person yelling “Mom!” and “Oh my God! Oh, God, God!” Robillard wrote.

Delcotimes:
One person familiar with the case said that they had viewed this recording, but were not convinced the person said “Mom.”

Delcotimes:

[Distract Attorney Tanner Rouse] said the original recording was not terribly clear, but had been cleaned up and the word “mom” was now clearly audible.

…

Rouse also acknowledged no gunshots could be heard in the video. He did not have an explanation for that, but said there were many possible reasons.

Sfchronicle:

After the screams, Robillard said that “movement can be seen at the front door,” which appeared to open and then shut, “indicating the subjects entered the house.” An upstairs light inside the house turned on and, about nine minutes later, two subjects could be seen exiting the front door, he wrote. The pair entered the car and pulled out of the driveway.

On Jan. 4, 2023, autopsies determined the mother, who was 69, had one gunshot wound to the back of her head. Her husband, 71, had a wound to his right hand and one to his right temple. A “jacketed hollow point-type” bullet was recovered from his skull and seized as evidence, police said.

Wired:
There was no sign of a break-in

Delcotimes:

Richard and Rita Zajko were discovered shortly after 5 p.m. Jan. 2, 2023, when police were called to their home at 18 Highland Dr. in Chester Heights on a welfare check because they had failed to arrive to take care of Rita’s Zajko’s mother on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2.

…

The victims were found inside a room in the house fashioned with children’s toys, dolls, decorations and furniture that appeared to be from the 1990s. A stitched picture on the wall had the lettering “Michelle Zajko” with a birth date of Dec. 31, 1992, inscribed on it.

…

No items appeared to be taken from the residence and no other rooms appeared to be disturbed. No firearm was found at the scene.

…

Police learned in January 2023 that [Jamie] and her former partner, Alice Monday, had both purchased 9 mm firearms from a Vermont sporting goods store on Feb. 3 and Feb. 4, 2022. Monday was able to purchase her firearm Feb. 3, but [Jamie] was delayed for one day because she had to get a Vermont driver’s license.

1.5.23 - The interview with Jamie

SFChronicle:

State troopers traveled northeast the following day to interview [Jamie] at her home in Orleans, Vermont. The daughter lived with a roommate, identified as Daniel Blank.

[Jamie] told the troopers she had an alibi: She had been at home with her roommate from Dec. 29, 2022, to Jan. 1, 2023. She told the troopers she had not been to Pennsylvania since the onset of COVID and had not spoken to her parents since January 2022, Robillard wrote.

She did not acknowledge receiving the Signal message about savings bonds from her mother’s phone days earlier until after an investigator asked her about it, the sergeant wrote. [Jamie] said she owned a 2013 Subaru Outback, and she allowed Robillard to handle a gun she owned, a Smith & Wesson pistol that fired 9mm rounds.

Police would come to believe that the handgun could have been the one used in the slayings, but they did not have a warrant during that initial interview and did not seize the firearm.

A ballistic lab analyzed the bullet extracted from the father’s head and determined [Jamie]’s handgun was “one firearm manufacturer type capable of producing” the markings on the projectile, Robillard wrote.

The daughter had purchased the handgun almost 11 months before her parents’ deaths at a Vermont sporting goods store. She also purchased bullets from that store that were “of the same manufacturer and type as that of the spent casings that were recovered” next to her parents’ bodies.

Delcotimes:

During that interview, [Jamie] said the residence was owned by Monday, who was living in Europe at the time. A check of travel information showed Monday left the country in March 2022 and had not returned.

The Zajko Inheritance

From VTDigger:
According to probate court records in Pennsylvania, [Jamie] was listed as the sole beneficiary of her parents’ estates.

However, per the Bloston Globe

Richard and Rita Zajko’s estate is in limbo, with beneficiaries “still being determined,” according to Pennsylvania court records. The documents, filed by an attorney for the estate, cite a “potential Slayer Statute issue” without elaboration. Pennsylvania law states, in part, “No slayer shall in any way acquire any property or receive any benefit as the result of the death of the decedent.”

1.9-12.23 Leadup to hotel raid

Bostonglobe:

Jan. 9, 2023

-[Daniel] Blank rents Room 111 at the Candlewood Suites in Chester, Penn.

-Pennsylvania State Police encounter [Jamie] outside the Delaware County Medical Examiner's Office. They invite her to the barracks to sign for a live turtle and a savings bond, but she declines.

January 11, 2023

[Jamie] rents Room 218 at the Candlewood Suites in Chester, Penn., for a single night.

[She must have extended this stay, as she was in this room the night of the raid, which was the evening of the 12th.]

Bostonglobe:

After the Zajkos’ bodies were found, the caregiver [of Jamie’s grandmother] spoke to [Jamie], who claimed she couldn’t travel to Pennsylvania because she said she didn’t have a car.

[This is confirmed to be a lie, Jamie’s car was included in the search warrant, as elaborated below]

One evening around the time of the funeral, [Jamie] showed up at her grandmother’s home and asked if she could come inside, the caregiver said. The two conversed in Italian. And then [Jamie] slipped into English.

“I’m sorry, Nonna,” she said. Her eyes looked lifeless, the caregiver recalled.

1.12-13.23 The hotel raid and Ziz’s arrest

(I wrote the journalists who wrote the stories below, and they indicate that based on the public record, it most likely happened around midnight, which explains inconsistencies in dates among sources)

SFChronicle

…A judge granted a search warrant for investigators to search [Jamie]’s home in Vermont. Detectives seized three 9mm cartridges, according to the records, but could not find the gun, which would have allowed for ballistic tests to see if it was the murder weapon.

That same day, Pennsylvania state troopers armed with another search warrant went looking for the gun in a hotel near the Philadelphia airport where [Jamie] was staying. (Other SFChronicle article says “they wanted her DNA, too.”)

Wired:

When Zajko came to the door of her second-floor room, she acknowledged the officers but was slow to open it. The police used a key card to enter. They detained Zajko and took her down to the lobby, but as they passed through, she shouted at the hotel staff to tell Daniel Blank that she’d been arrested. “He’s staying in room 111!” she said, according to Gibson. The trooper recognized Blank’s name from the Vermont trip and gathered some officers to approach 111, which Blank had rented under the name “Daniel Black.” When Gibson knocked on the door, Blank refused to open it and asked for a lawyer.

Instead, the officers left to obtain a warrant. They reviewed the previous night’s footage from the Candlewood Suites security cameras and determined that Zajko had carried a bag down to room 111, knocked, and left it outside the door. A judge found it sufficient probable cause for a warrant, and the police returned to the hotel at 12:30 am. This time, when no one answered the door to 111, a vice unit breached the room. They heard the shower running and found Blank hiding in the bathroom—along with a blond-haired figure they hadn’t expected, dressed in black.

Blank was thrown to the ground and cuffed, but cooperated as he was walked out of the room.

Delcotimes:

[The police] then drafted a second warrant for that room and for Blank’s DNA, which was signed by a judge.

From SFChronicle

Blank put his hands behind his back and walked out of the room, obeying police commands, but [Ziz] “did not do any of that.”

“He had his eyes closed,” a trooper testified, using masculine pronouns. “He would not speak. He was just laying almost unconscious or as if he was dead on the ground. … He had to be carried out.”

From Delcotimes:

A portable fingerprint device was used on [Ziz] and an out-of-state warrant came up for a contempt of court order out of California, according to an affidavit of probable cause for [Ziz]’s arrest.

From BostonGlobe:
Uncertain if she was having a medical emergency, police escorted her to the hospital.

Wired:

The troopers searched Zajko’s green 2013 Subaru, parked at the hotel, and discovered $40,000 in cash under the front passenger seat. In Blank’s pocket they found a receipt for it, from a Bank of America branch in Vermont. (Later, surveillance footage from the branch would show Blank pacing back and forth as he awaited the money, then pulling out and unwrapping a cell phone covered in foil.)

In LaSota and Blank’s room, 111, the police found a light-colored cloth bag containing a Smith & Wesson 9mm—with a serial number matching the one troopers had seen in Vermont—and five boxes of ammunition.

From The Boston Times:

[Ziz] had a blue AT&T phone and tinfoil.

Ziz would later be revealed to have been named a “person of interest” in the case

Delcotimes:

During the Candlewood Suites search, investigators recovered…a bag containing six pistol grip accessories.

Only three of the pistol grip accessories would fit [Jamie's] firearm. The other three would fit the firearm purchased by Monday.

Police submitted [Jamie's] firearm and other collected ballistics evidence for comparison testing, but the results were “inconclusive.”

[District Attorney] Rouse said Wednesday that investigators have determined [Jamie's] firearm was not the killing weapon.

Zizians after raid

BostonGlobe:
Zajko was processed and released, and left the State Police barracks despite being asked to wait so officers could give her back her vehicle, according to the new affidavit. Instead, she abandoned her vehicle, the ATF agent wrote — leaving $40,000 in cash inside of it.

At the time, Zajko had been living at a cabin in Coventry, Vt., owned by a trust “bearing the name of Zajko’s former romantic partner,” [Most likely Alice Monday] according to the new affidavit. A representative of the trust has declined to comment to the Globe.

The ATF agent wrote that there’s no evidence Zajko ever returned to the remote Coventry cabin after she was interviewed by police in January 2023. A plumber hired by the trust to fix a burst pipe in February 2023 said the place had been abandoned without being winterized. It was sold to new owners that July.

On 1.27.25, it was revealed that

“[Ophelia] flew into the United States in the hours preceding that Pennsylvania homicide,” Lasher wrote in the filing.

No names are confirmed, but it appears to be the same Pennsylvania double murder referenced in the article

Prosecutors for for the 2025 murder of Curt Lind say Suri and Somni are mentioned in the police report for the PA murders

Delcotimes:

Investigators also recovered a list from [Jamie's] phone dated seven days after [Jamie], Blank and [Ziz] were arrested in Chester.

The list is titled, “So many things we f***ed up.”

These included an apparent reference to [Ziz's] phone being off, but their failure to get rid of it; failing to have a person believed to be Blank using their phones from Vermont during the murders so that it appeared they were there at the time; not tossing bullets, presumably the Sig ammunition; “Shells,” referencing the FCCs at the crime scene; withdrawing a large sum of money; and a cryptic reference to “Crock!” possibly meaning Richard Zajko, who was labeled “Crocka76” in [Jamie] Zajko’s contact list.

SFGate:

By Thanksgiving 2022, [Blank] became secretive before cutting off his parents completely.

SFChronicle:

Blank was reported missing to Pennsylvania state police on April 12, 2023, records show.

…

[Daniel’s] father, who asked to withhold his name, said Blank’s last communication with his parents was a text message — a link to a video about farm animals and a one-line message: “Look what you have done.”

Twitter user @fishtankFool claims to have gotten into a road rage incident with Milo outside the university of Washington.

so the gist of the story is this:

I was parking on the main avenue in the university district of seattle, one block from the UW campus

[Milo] was in a smaller car, and had backed up from ahead of me as I was pulling in, and we kind of had an awkward position where I couldn't reverse to let them park (cars behind me) and they didn't want to cede the space

I rolled my window down, slightly peeved, and was like "hey what the fuck are we doing here? I can't back up"

then [Milo] got out, stood in front of my car and told me to move

I couldn't move at all and said they should pull up so I could at least get around them (skinny street)

I start calling them a fucking moron

we get into a spat

and I get out of my car as they've now chosen to just stand on the sidewalk with arms crossed, effectively piling up an entire road of honking cars in defiance

I walk toward [Milo] with my arms out in a sort of "what the fuck is going on dude" stance

and [Milo] immediately pulls their shirt up, flashes a glock tucked inside their band (highly doubt they were adhering to our strict concealed carry laws in Washington state) and then pulls it out

starts rambling about transphobes and saying they're not afraid to kill a nazi and blah blah blah

I put my hands up and go "WOAH WOAH WOAH, YOURE PULLING A GUN ON ME? YOURE FUCKING CRAZY DUDE"

and me saying dude was like a nuke going off and [Milo] started screaming and shouting and as I backed up back in to my car, chose to drive into oncoming traffic to get away, [Milo] chased my car on foot, filming my face and shoving their phone into my passenger side window that had been rolled down

I called the police, they went and talked to [Milo], and nothing came of it

that's pretty much it

5.26.23 - Zizians counter-suit dismissed

The case that the CFAR protestors brought against Sonoma County, Westminster Woods, and various other individuals I assume are associated with the above organizations is dismissed for failure to prosecute.

6.22.23 - Ziz’s bail reduced to 10,000, Ziz released

A court document shows Ziz’s bail was reduced to 10,000 (unsecured, as in she would owe $10,000 if she didn’t appear, but does not have to pay anything to be released.)

Delcotimes:

The prosecutor in that case argued vehemently against bail reduction at the time, noting this was a person at least tangentially connected to a double homicide still under investigation.

A person with knowledge of the case said they believed LaSota was being held for as long as possible to try to flush out Zajko, who had gone underground after her second interview with troopers.

Delcotimes:

…Common Pleas Court Judge Richard Cappelli did reduce [Ziz]’s bail from $500,000 cash to $10,000 unsecured and they were released pending trial with the proviso of providing a verifiable address. [emphasis added]

…[Ziz] posted in June 2023 over prosecutors’ objections. [Ziz]’s attorney assured the judge that [Ziz]’s mother “will take him home and make sure he comes back for all the court dates,” according to transcripts of the bail hearing per Open Vallejo.

Wired:

Unable to charge for the Zajko murders but suspecting that [Ziz], [Jamie], and Daniel Blank could be tied to them, prosecutors were trying desperately to hold [Ziz] while the police gathered evidence. “Obviously you realize we don't give a shit about this case,” one local official familiar with it told me. What they were interested in was [Ziz’s] involvement in the homicide.

…

But from another angle, the authorities seemed oddly passive about what already amounted to a kind of alleged crime spree. [Ziz] had an active bench warrant in Sonoma County, California, on the felony charge related to the protest. She’d arguably committed another crime in faking her death, since causing the Coast Guard to commit resources to save lives when no one is in danger is a federal felony—punishable by up to six years in prison. And according to the police in Vallejo, she’d fled the scene of the sword attack and shooting, making her at minimum a potential person of interest in a murder case. But no California law enforcement showed up in Pennsylvania looking to collect their charge or even to question her.

…

[From later in the article:]

I asked [Officer Parks of Sonoma County] why—given the open felony warrant—his department hadn’t come after LaSota once she was arrested in Pennsylvania. “Right now, if I were to look at the system, there are probably 75 felony bench warrants,” Parks said. “We don’t have the luxury of trying to serve” them all, he said. “We’re understaffed right now.”

I told him what I’d heard in Pennsylvania from a source close to the case, that the authorities there had contacted Sonoma County about taking their prisoner. “I heard there was some communication between us and the agency in Pennsylvania,” Parks said. “I don’t know to what extent, so I really don’t want to comment on that.”

But did it frustrate him, I asked, that the original case felt like it would never get prosecuted? “I personally am not going to lose sleep over this matter,” he said. “If they were here and running amok still, or running amok anywhere in the United States, causing concern for other agencies and people of our communities, then yeah, I’d want them prosecuted.”

…

Even more strangely, perhaps, despite having found the Smith & Wesson in [Ziz] and Blank’s hotel room, prosecutors never charged her in connection to the weapon. Under Pennsylvania law, it’s illegal to possess a gun while a fugitive from justice. “I don’t know that the charges would have had legs,” the official told me, since the gun could have belonged to Blank. But in the court hearings on [Ziz’s] bail, the discovery of the gun never even came up.

The only person I’d seen in the gallery who seemed tuned into the hearings was a beefy fifty- or sixtysomething white-haired man, sporting a goatee and wearing a black polo. He gave off the vibe of a private investigator, and when I introduced myself he confirmed as much, declining to give his name. “You can call me … Cliff,” he said, unconvincingly. We shared our bafflement at $500,000-to-$50,000 bail, and I asked why he was there. “Some people in California are interested in this case,” he said. “They’re afraid of this individual.”

Audere was raising funds to bail out Ziz, with the help of Octavia, via crypto. It’s not clear what became of the funds raised, as Ziz was allowed to walk without paying the court any bail.

Per Jamie:
I also read on Jessica Taylor's twitter that Snyder did a fundraiser for Ziz. This is news to me! We never saw a penny. If you were donating, you were defrauded.

6.x.23 - Jamie blames LessWrong for the Zajko murders, sells house

Wired:

Around the same time, [Jamie] called her aunt Rosanne… [Jamie] was calling with a message: “She told me she wasn’t responsible” for the murders, Rosanne said. “But she said that she knew who was.” She told her aunt that “LessWrong did it” and that she was “being targeted.”

Not long after, the trust that owned the house in Coventry, Vermont, where [Jamie] had lived with Alice Monday, sold it off. [Jamie] and Blank were both gone, having left the previous winter. When realtors came to inspect the property, they found the house had not been winterized, causing the pipes to burst

7.?.23 - Ophelia, Milo, and someone else move to North carolina

Per APnews

[Ophelia] and [Milo] had been renting units in separate duplexes in the same neighborhood in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, according to the owner of the buildings, who asked not to be identified because he fears for his safety and that of his other renters.

[Ophelia] rented one unit through Airbnb starting in July 2023 and moved to the second unit later that year, the owner said Tuesday. [Milo] began renting the original unit in November 2024 and had paid nearly $10,000 to extend her stay until the end of March, he said.

…

“They were always wearing black and in the back of my mind, this entire time, I’m just thinking, ‘What is going on with these people?’” he said.

The owner’s last contact with [Ophelia] was about a month ago, he said, when [Ophelia] was trying to negotiate a more traditional lease instead of using Airbnb. Box trucks were parked outside of both units, he said, and [Ophelia] was running an electrical cord to one of them.

“There would be times when I would come to get the trash and as I’m coming up the driveway, he’d be crawling out of the cab,” he said.

Per fox13seattle:

[Ophelia] and [Milo] had been renting units in separate duplexes in the same neighborhood in Chapel Hill, North Carolina…The owner, who went to the units regularly to pick up the trash, said another man appeared to be living with [Ophelia].(emphasis added)

This person has been confirmed to be Ziz

APNews:

[Ziz] also had been living there as recently as this winter, said the landlord, who reviewed [Ziz’s] 2019 police booking photo.

fox13seattle:

The owner said he went into [Milo]’s unit last week to check the plumbing. "The thing that struck me the most was that there was a stretcher in the living room. Like, what in the world is going on with these people?" he said.

The Cut:

Candice Welch, a neighbor, described seeing these “very weird looking people wearing black all the time,” walking out of the woods together at odd hours. Ziz carried a rifle in her black robes. “On weekends, you would always hear shooting, like somebody was using something as a range,” said Welch. Photos, taken later, show empty boxes of ammunition and containers of Soylent and supplements, a book about the Scandinavian resistance movements during WWII, with detailed descriptions of how they poisoned their occupiers’ water supply, large tanks of argon gas, and a cutting device. There were boxes of surgical masks, a black metal face mask, receipts from chemical-supply companies, and a respirator, along with an order slip for a surgical device called a rongeur, used for cutting small bits of bone.

8.21.23 - Ziz appears in court

Wired:

Shortly after court was gaveled into session, an older woman with gray-blond hair [Ziz’s mother] pushed a wheelchair into the back of the courtroom. In it, slumped to one side and dressed in flowing black, was [Ziz]

…

A new prosecutor had replaced the old one, and requested a continuance to get on top of all the facts. The judge assented, pushing the trial to December. “I just want the record to reflect that the defendant is here, and we’re ready,” McGarrigle said, before LaSota’s mother wheeled her back out through the doors.

12.x.23 - Ziz fails to appear

Wired:
“Good morning, your honor,” McGarrigle said. “I’m ready for trial. I have not had contact with my client since the last time we were here.” In those four months, he’d spoken to [Ziz’s] family, he said, but not [Ziz] directly, “and I’m unable to provide an update on my client’s whereabouts at this time.”

The judge gave McGarrigle until the following morning to reach his client. When he couldn’t, the court issued a bench warrant for [Ziz’s] arrest.

2.x.24 - Jamie buys guns used in shootout

Per BostonGlobe, this is the month where the sale of the guns that Ophelia and Milo used in their fatal shootout with the border patrol were purchased by Jamie.

VTDigger:
[Jamie] allegedly also bought a third gun, a Ruger pistol, from the Mount Tabor firearms store that same day. In an affidavit, James Loomis, a task force agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, wrote that, “to my knowledge, law enforcement has not recovered that firearm to date.”

5.x.24 Milo reported missing

BostonGlobe:

Parents of [Milo] report her missing to Seattle police. They fear she is in a "controlling relationship," but don't specify with whom.

Given other information, this person is almost definitely Audere. Milo would have been either 19 or 20 at the time.

11.5.24 - Audere and Milo file for marriage

Audere and Milo file for a marriage license. It’s unclear whether they actually go through with the marriage. This was election day.

Jamie’s account of Audere and Milo’s relationship

[Milo] has alleged to some friends that [Audere], among other crimes, raped [Milo]. [Milo] allegedly isn't the first ex [Audere] has abused. [Audere] owned a shotgun, and [Milo] was living in terror of him. [Audere] cut off the tip of one of his fingers to prove a point, and had [Milo] clean up the blood. As far as I'm aware, [Milo] finally fled from [Audere] some time in November 2024, & [Audere] was desperate to follow [Milo], attempting to entice them back with large sums of money & promises. When that didn't work, [Audere] began spamming people he thought they had fled to with weird and creepy texts. [Audere] at one point had access to [Milo]’s online accounts, though [Milo] allegedly changed the passwords. If [Audere] is responsible for Lind's death, then I wonder if he still had access, & somehow learned [Milo] was buying a house, and lost it.

1.?-14.25 - Ophelia and Milo go house shopping

VTDigger:

The Northeast Kingdom realtor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity citing safety concerns, said they spoke only with [Milo], who referred to herself as Connie and her companion as Sam.

[Milo] contacted the office of a Northeast Kingdom real estate firm on Jan. 13, seeking to view a property in Wheelock, the realtor told VTDigger. According to the realtor and real estate websites, the 11-acre Blodgett Road property is extremely remote and difficult to access in winter. The two-bedroom fixer-upper is off the grid — something [Milo] expressed interest in, the realtor said — and has a generator and wood stoves.

The realtor told VTDigger that they had tried to discourage [Milo] from attempting to buy the house, at least in the middle of winter.

“I said, ‘Maybe it would be a better idea for us to go look at it in the springtime,’” the realtor said. “And she said, ‘We don’t want to wait till spring.’ She was very adamant.”

[Milo] said she planned to pay cash for the house, according to the realtor. The property is listed for just under $200,000 on Zillow.

They made plans for a viewing on the morning of Jan. 14, but after an effort to plow the road that day was unsuccessful, the realtor called [Milo] and left messages telling her the viewing was off. The next morning, however, the realtor learned that [Milo] and at least one other person had shown up anyway, drawing the attention of neighbors.

1.14.25 Ophelia and Milo surveilled

From APnews

“Investigators had been performing “periodic surveillance” of [Milo] and [Ophelia] since Jan. 14 after an employee at a hotel where they were staying reported concerns after seeing [Milo] carrying a gun and she and [Ophelia] wearing black tactical gear, according to the affidavit. Investigators tried to question the duo, who said they were in the area looking to buy property but declined to have an extended conversation, the FBI said.

1.17.25 - Curtis Lind is murdered

SF chronicle:

“At Lind’s Vallejo cul-de-sac, witnesses recounted the harrowing details of Lind’s death to a reporter. Joseph Ventura and Juan Ponce work at separate body shops nearby, and both said a strange person who wore all black and had long black hair had been hanging out in the neighborhood leading up to the killing this month.

Ventura said the person had been peeking into car and home windows; his coworkers became concerned that the individual might burglarize properties.

“I thought he might steal some stuff,” Ventura said, “but never thought he’d kill somebody.”

Ponce said the strange individual would mostly sit on yellow metal bollards on the roadside. He thought the person could be homeless or suffering from mental illness. At one point, when a drone flew overhead, the individual ran up to Ponce, asking if he was guiding the aircraft with his phone.
…
He said his coworkers told him that they saw the strange individual walk up to Lind, wrap an arm around his neck in what appeared to be a friendly greeting, and then use the other arm to pull out a long knife and repeatedly stabbed Lind in the chest.

They watched as Lind opened the buttons of his shirt to reveal blood, Ponce said. The assailant ran down the street.

Ventura, who had been eating lunch inside his car garage at the time, said he heard the commotion and then saw a short man with long hair and black clothing, covered in blood, run past his shop. When Ventura and his coworkers heard the individual was armed, they took cover in their business.

Ponce said his coworkers watched as the assailant returned to the scene a second time, walked up to the bleeding Lind, and slashed his throat.”

With regards to the context of the 2022 case involving Lind, OpenVallejo quoted DA Krishna Abrams:

there is less evidence in the case than a typical homicide. She noted that there is no surveillance video, firearm ballistics evidence, or social media records from the incident. Instead, prosecutors relied on two main witnesses, Lind and another man over 80 years old, for their case against the tenants, court records show. Both witnesses were found to have significant memory decline, according to court records.

“Mr. Lind is the only eye-witness to this case and his testimony is critical for the People to have the ability to prove their case,” prosecutors wrote in court papers filed Jan. 16 — a day before Lind died — also noting: “These defendants are extremely dangerous, they have both tried to escape from custody.”

Openvallejo:
Court records obtained by Open Vallejo show that Lind was set to testify against his alleged assailants as the sole eyewitness in a criminal trial scheduled for April.

1.19.25 - Milo and Ophelia meet hunters at property

VTDigger:

Another viewing was scheduled for Monday Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. A day before that appointment, however, the realtor received an email from [Milo] complaining that, while she was at the property, she had had an uncomfortable exchange with two men, who allegedly commented on her clothing and what she was doing there.

A week ago, the Barton Chronicle reported that a hunter encountered two people matching the description of [Milo] and [Ophelia] in Wheelock and was “surprised” by the way they were dressed.

“After I got that email, I was like, okay, this is a little weird,” the realtor said. The next morning, on Monday, they learned that the seller of the house had accepted another offer and informed [Milo] that the property was no longer available, they said. The viewing was canceled.

1.20.25 - The border patrol shootout

A court motion reads:

[Teresa] possessed a journal at the time of her violent confrontation with law enforcement that—in addition to containing apparent cypher text—contained phrases including, “coming up on acid[,]” “not really sure what to spend this trip on[,]” “This lsd trip seems pretty mellow[,]” and “i fell kinda high vibrationy maybe more so than other lsd trips?”

Struck for a misleading sense of relevancy. Law enforcement may find it relevant she took LSD at some point in time, but I don’t think most people would

About two hours before the shooting, investigators watched [Ophelia] exit a Walmart in Newport, which is just north of Coventry, with two packages of aluminum foil. According to the affidavit, he was seen wrapping unidentifiable objects while seated in the passenger seat.

During a search of the car after the shootout, authorities found cellphones wrapped in foil, a ballistic helmet, night-vision goggles, respirators and ammunition, the FBI said. They also found a package of shooting range targets, including some that had been used, two-way radios, about a dozen “electronic devices,” travel and lodging information for multiple states, and an apparent journal.

Apparently the FBI was involved as well, judging from the Affidavit of one of their officers:

“I am a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of lnvestigation (FBI), an agency of the Department of Justice.
…

Because this Affidavit is being submitted for the limited purpose of establishing

probable cause, it does not include all the facts that I have learned during the course of the

investigation. Where the contents of documents and the actions, statements, and conversations of

others are reported herein, they are reported in substance and in part, except where otherwise

…

On January 20, 2025, at approximately 3:00 pm, an on-duty, uniformed United

States Border Patrol (USBP) Agent initiated a stop of a blue 2015 Toyota Prius Hatchback with

North Carolina license plate number KLA2040 to conduct an immigration inspection as it was

driving southbound on Interstate 91 in Coventry, Vermont. The registered owner of the vehicle,

[Ophelia] Felix Baukholt, a citizen of Germany, appeared to have an expired visa ina Department of

Homeland Security database. [Milo] was driving the Prius, and [Ophelia] was the lone

passenger in the Prius. Multiple uniformed Border Patrol Agents were present at the stop in three

USBP vehicles with emergency lights illuminated.

7. Between approximately 3:00 pm and 3:15 pm, agents reported gunshots at the scene.

Supervisory Border Patrol Agent (SBPA) Cameron Thompson was notified of the incident and

responded to the scene of the stop, arriving at approximately 3:35 pm. He spoke with two of the

Border Patrol Agents involved in the incident. They described that both [Ophelia] and

[Milo] possessed firearms and that [Milo] drew and fired a handgun toward at

least one of the uniformed Border Patrol Agents without warning when outside the driver's side

of the Prius. 1 [Ophelia] then attempted to draw a firearm. At least one Border Patrol Agent fired

at [Milo] and [Ophelia] with his service weapon.

8. The exchange of gunfire resulted in Border Patrol Agent Maland, [Milo],

and [Ophelia] all sustaining gunshot wounds. [Ophelia] was declared deceased at the scene as a

result of his injuries. Border Patrol Agent Maland was transported to North County Hospital for

emergency care, but he was pronounced deceased at the facility at approximately 4:00 pm.

[Milo] was transported from the scene to North County Hospital for emergency medical

treatment and was ultimately taken to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New

Hampshire, where she is presently receiving in-patient medical care.

1 As of the time of this application, formal interviews with the surviving Border Patrol Agents at

the scene have not been conducted due to interagency constraints following an agent-involved

use of deadly force. The information contained herein is based on statements from the involved

Agents related to me by law enforcement who responded to the scene during and immediately

after the exchange of gunfire.

…

Based on my conversations with law enforcement officers, [Ophelia] and

[Milo] were observed by investigators prior to the stop of the Prius on Interstate 91 between the approximate hours of 11 :30 and 2:35 pm at the Wal-Mart located at 115 Seymour

Drive in Newport, Vermont. They observed [Ophelia] enter the Wal-Mart at approximately 1 :00

pm and came out with what was later confirmed by Wal-Mart employees to be two packages of

aluminum foil. [Milo] remained in the Prius in the driver's seat. When [Ophelia]

returned to the vehicle, he was seen removing sheets of foil and wrapping unidentifiable objects

while seated in the passenger seat. While in the Wal-Mart parking lot, investigators observed

[Ophelia] making at least one phone call on a cell phone outside of the Prius; he was then

observed entering the Prius with the cell phone and was not observed discarding it between the

observed phone call and the later stop.

14. Investigators had been performing periodic surveillance of [Ophelia] and

[Milo] since on or about Tuesday, January 14, 2025. A concerned citizen-an employee

of a hotel in Lyndonville, Vermont--contacted law enforcement after a male and a female had

checked into the hotel to report concerns about them, including that they appeared to be dressed

in all-black tactical style clothing with protective equipment, with the woman, later identified as

[Milo], carrying an apparent firearm in an exposed-carry holster. Investigators with

VSP and Homeland Security Investigations attempted to initiate a consensual conversation with

[Ophelia] and [Milo], but they declined to have an extended conversation, claiming that

they were in the vicinity to look at purchasing property. After the contact with law enforcement,

the pair checked out of the Lyndonville hotel on the afternoon of January 14, 2025. Investigators

later observed the pair in similar tactical dress on Sunday, January 19, 2025, walking in

downtown Newport; [Milo] was observed carrying a handgun at that time.

15. On January 21, 2025, I applied for and received a federal search warrant for the 2015

Toyota Prius occupied by [Milo] and [Ophelia] at the time of the stop under District of

Vermont case number 2:25-mj-5. FBI agents searched the contents of the Prius on the evening of

January.21, 2025, and I have reviewed a preliminary list of pertinent items seized from the Prius

pursuant to the warrant. Among those items, I note that the Prius contained various pieces

tactical gear-including a ballistic helmet, night-vision-goggle monocular, a tactical belt with

holster, and a magazine loaded with cartridges; two full-face respirators; 48 rounds of .380-

caliber jacketed hollow point ammunition; a package of shooting range targets ( some of which

were used); two handheld two-way radios; approximately a dozen electronic devices and

multiple removable electronic storage devices; documents containing identification, utility, lease,

travel, and lodging information pertaining to multiple states; and an apparent journal found

among [Milo]'s identification documents

1.21.25 - Jamie named in shootout investigation

A day after the shooting the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives sent an alert to federally licensed firearms dealers reading, “ATF is asking for your assistance in identifying any firearms purchases made by [Jamie] Michelle Jacqueline Zajko, a person of interest in the shooting of a Customs and Border Protection Officer on Jan. 20, 2025.”

The alert asked firearms dealers to check their records and contact ATF if they had “any information about transfers or attempted transfers” of firearms to [Jamie] Michelle Jacqueline Zajko.

Vtdigger:

On Monday afternoon, Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Lasher, the prosecutor, submitted a court filing ahead of [Milo]’s hearing for Magistrate Judge Kevin Doyle to consider [Milo]’s custody status.

Lasher, in that five-page filing, wrote that one of the reasons for continuing to detain [Milo] was her “associations with other individuals suspected of violent acts.”

Lasher wrote that the person who purchased the firearms [Milo] and [Ophelia] possessed at the time of the Coventry shooting was a “person of interest” in a double-homicide in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

“[Ophelia] flew into the United States in the hours preceding that Pennsylvania homicide,” Lasher wrote in the filing.

Both [Milo] and the person who allegedly purchased the firearms used in the Vermont shooting, Lasher wrote, were “acquainted with and have been in frequent contact with [almost definitely referring to Ziz] an individual who was detained by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania during that homicide investigation; that individual is also a person of interest in a homicide investigation in Vallejo, California.”

Lasher’s court filing did not provide the names of any of the individuals, nor further details on the Pennsylvania or California cases.

VTDigger recently identified the person of interest who is suspected to have purchased the weapons that Ophelia and Milo used as Jamie

2.5.25 - Federal search + loud noise in Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill is the neighborhood Ophelia and Milo were renting out of. See “7.?.23 - Ophelia, Milo, and someone else move to North carolina”

MSN:

Welch said she woke up to the sound of a bang followed by a large federal presence in the neighborhood near the intersection of Bell Circle and Woodbridge Drive.

…
Chatham County deputies were also seen in the neighborhood assisting the FBI with this matter.

"They were looking for a missing item, that's all they told us," Welch said. "We knew it had to be something important, something very serious because of the fact that it was the FBI, along with the sheriff's deputies, and unmarked cars. There was a little bit of everything out here."

VTDigger:
Many of the units in the Chapel Hill neighborhood searched by the FBI are duplexes owned by a single landlord and rented via Airbnb, according to property records and Airbnb listings. The landlord declined to comment to VTDigger.

Lascara, who lives next door to one of the units searched by the FBI, said he did not interact much with his neighbors and was not exactly sure who was renting the units. But he recalled seeing two of them walking around the neighborhood dressed in black — “like, lots of black,” he said. “I think they both had trench coats.”

Shown a picture of [Ophelia], Lascara said he “definitely” recognized the individual. Although they never interacted, Lascara said, [Ophelia] had a “socially awkward sense.”

Lascara said he was not sure who [Ophelia’s] companion was. But that person, who Lascara described as a woman no more than 5-foot-8, with dark hair and a “roundish face,” once came to his door asking if he’d received a package.

The neighbor had ordered a smartwatch that had not arrived, Lascara said. Their interaction — in which the neighbor had pointed out that Lascara was wearing a watch of the same kind that they had ordered — was brief and “kind of weird,” he said.

Another neighbor, who asked to speak anonymously for fear of their safety, told VTDigger they recognized [Ophelia] and [Milo] from news reports. The neighbor had seen the two walking around the area, “all in black, black trench coats,” they said.

The pair generally kept to themselves, according to the neighbor, who said they also saw other people staying with them as well, as well as multiple other vehicles — including a box truck that was parked in a cul-de-sac for an extended period of time.

At one point, the neighbor said they saw [Ophelia], [Milo] and “two adults, all in black, coming back from the store.” One of those two strangers was very tall with dark hair, the neighbor said.

Lascara said he heard agents announce that they were in possession of search warrants.

In which, he publicly urges him to commit to veganism.

“Reached by the Chronicle, Yudkowsky said he would not read the letter for the same reason he refused to read the manuscript of the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski.

“Audience should not be a reward for crime,” Yudkowsky said.

…

Explaining his decision not to read [Audere]’s letter, Yudkowsky said it is common for people to ask him to read what they’ve written.

“I am usually too busy and too tired and cannot engage with them,” Yudkowsky said. “It would be a slap in their faces to first read the work of a criminal.””

2.16.25 - Ziz, Jamie, Daniel Blank arrested

Casesearch

Ziz Case # D-121-CR-25-000208

Jamie Case # D-121-CR-25-000209

Daniel Blank Case # D-121-CR-25-000210

Ziz, Jamie, and Daniel Blank were all arrested by Maryland state police in Frostburg, at the 10000 block of Piney Mountain Road, Allegany County for trespassing on private property and obstruction charges. In addition, Jamie is charged with carrying a handgun and resisting arrest, and Ziz is charged with having a handgun in a vehicle.

All three are being held without bond.

VTDigger:

Michelle [Jamie] Jacqueline Zajko, Daniel Arthur Blank, and Jack Amadeus LaSota — also known as “Ziz” — were arrested and charged with several misdemeanors after allegedly trespassing on private property in Frostburg, Maryland, according to court records.

…

According to charging documents obtained by VTDigger, a Frostburg resident contacted Maryland state police around 3:30 p.m. Sunday to report two white box trucks with chains on their tires trespassing on his property.

The three people inside the trucks had asked if they could camp at the site for a month, according to the charging documents, but the landowner told police the people “appeared suspicious” and he wanted them off his property.

Officers with the state police, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources responded to the call, according to the documents.

One of the state police troopers, named in court records as Brandon Jeffries, approached one of the box trucks and saw a person, later identified as Daniel Blank, sitting in the passenger seat. Jeffries ordered Blank to show their hands, the filing reads, and Blank “advised that he had a learning disability and did not understand what I was saying,” Jeffries wrote.

Inside the other box truck, state police troopers found [Jamie] and [Ziz], according to the charging documents, dressed all in black and wearing gun belts with ammunition.

Jeffries told [Jamie] and [Ziz] to exit the truck, a process that was delayed because “they were saying they were being told to (sic) many commands and were not cooperating,” the trooper wrote in the filing. “[Jamie] was crying saying not to kill her.”

According to Jeffries’ account, [Jamie] repeatedly refused to put her hands behind her back and was eventually “taken down to the ground by controlled takedown” before she was arrested. State police found a Sig Sauer handgun in [Jamie]’s front waistband, the charging documents said.

Jeffries wrote that he had also seen a long rifle in the back of the vehicle and a handgun on the front floorboard where [Ziz] was sitting.

According to the documents, Blank, [Ziz] and [Jamie] refused to give their names despite “numerous” requests and had to later be identified through photos from an FBI special agent.

…

Elena Russo, a spokesperson for the Maryland State Police, said in a Monday press release that the agency “is working in coordination with our federal law enforcement partners and the Office of the State’s Attorney in Allegany County as this investigation continues.”

Rolling Stone:

…in court, prosecutors shared that one of the two box trucks the trio were living in at the time of their arrest was registered to [Milo].

Inquirer:

Police said they were armed with multiple guns and carrying military tactical gear, as well as LSD.

2.18.25 - Initial Bond Hearing for the 3 arrested Zizians

Seattlepi:
…Ziz, asked for pretrial release, saying she was homeless with no means of traveling. Speaking haltingly, she also requested a vegan diet and said she was “in a mild state of delirium” due to lack of food.

“I haven't done anything wrong,” she told the judge.

The Baltimore Banner:

[Ziz:] “I might starve to death if you do not intervene. I need the jail to be ordered to have a vegan diet,” she said. “It’s more important than whatever this hearing is.”

2.21.25 - Mystery woman appears in court

NBC Bay area:

A woman appeared at Max’s hearing today. NBC Asked her questions, which she declined.

“What can you tell us about max?”
“Stop. Please don’t follow me.”

This may be the same person identified by KCRA as “a person who was in the courtroom and speaking with Snyder's attorney before and after the case.”

[I’m adding this because multiple news stations are treating it as newsworthy. Please keep in mind that this person hasn’t broken the law, or done anything worth harassing her over.]

"Early 2025" - Gwen in hiding, moving back to Bay Area

In 2025, it appeared that Gwen was in hiding, only contacting her father sporadically.

La Times:

As authorities on both coasts worked their cases, Brett Danielson said he heard from his daughter Gwen for the first time in years.

“‘I’m in hiding; I’m under an alias, please don’t divulge where I am, or that I’m even alive,’” he said she told him.

SFChronicle:

Danielson has had only sporadic contact with her father, Brett Danielson, over the past several years and last spoke to him around the holidays, he told the Chronicle. Her father said she is living “completely under the radar,” apparently out of fear for her life.

“We are dealing with highly intelligent people who know how to track somebody down if they want to,” he said. “If any one of them wants to do somebody harm, they are going to do anything they can do to track them down.”

Brett Danielson said his daughter split from others in the group years ago for reasons that are unclear, possibly after someone made threats of violence. Given the events in Vallejo and Vermont, he fears she has been harmed.

“This is a situation where some people apparently turned what was meant to be an intellectual group into a violent group with some extreme views, and it’s made it dangerous for people who got into it for a good reason,” he said. “I would love to see this come to resolution where at least she and anyone else that really wants to do good in that group can kind of be free of the trouble behind them and move forward.”

NYPost:

Danielson split from the increasingly unhinged group of “rationalist” computer scientists over an argument within the group, according to her father.

…

“Hopefully [the recent arrests] are the end of their activities and those who really were somewhat innocently pulled into the vortex of this can get their lives straightened back out again.

“I’m hoping that this allows [Gwen] to come out of hiding, put things behind her and move on,” he added.

But if Gwen was in hiding, she just came out to make a blogpost on Lesswrong and settle her legal affairs.

Per Gwen's lesswrong blogpost:

"Early [2025], when the author of the threat I took most seriously (Jamie Zajko) ended up in jail, I quietly returned to the Bay and have been dealing with the old legal headache that followed the peaceful protest at the alumni reunion. "

"The moment [Jamie] was in custody, I returned to Sonoma and have been setting my affairs straight this last year. It has been reduced to a misdemeanor and the worst two charges were found to have no basis even worth bringing to trial. I just pled 'No Contest' to trespassing, conspiracy, wearing a mask, and resisting arrest. I regret my actions, but I continue to maintain that I did not break the law. This just ended up being an acceptable resolution of the case that has taken up half of my adult life."

3.19.25 Jamie’s open letter to the world

Link to letter

[NOTE: I hesitated posting this for a while, for several reasons. Jamie did in fact send an open letter to the Associated Press, but they have chosen not to release the letter in its full contents. The most probable reason would be that Jamie makes several accusations of crimes to named individuals, which the AP have not verified, and didn’t want to publish.

However, this letter was posted elsewhere on the internet. Mike Doris reached out to an unnamed journalist who says it matches the handwritten letter. Given that it’s a typed version of a handwritten letter, and given how we don’t know to what extent the journalist checked every word, there may be errors in it. In addition, Jamie seems to have added several P.S. and P.P.S.’es, so different versions have different dates.

In addition, Io Dodds has posted three excerpts of the letter which are word-for-word what is said in the letter (aside from some spelling mistakes, which appear to be on the part of the transcriber, not Jamie)

This is most of the reason I was unsure about putting the letter here. The other half was hesitancy around not following the code of journalistic ethics that every other journalist seems to be following. But after a little soul searching, posting this seems to be in keeping with the consistent spirit of the rest of this document. I was hoping a more definitive confirmation one way or another would emerge, but it seems like this is the version that most people are reading and interpreting as Jamie’s words. Further confirmation appreciated.]

9.6.25 Prosecutors seeking death penalty for Milo, charges upped

Delcotimes:

Prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty against [Milo]

…

[Milo] initially was charged with using a deadly weapon against law enforcement and discharging a firearm during an assault with a deadly weapon, crimes that were not punishable by the death penalty.

But the Trump administration signaled early on that more serious charges were coming as part of its push for more federal executions, and a new indictment released last month charged her with murder of a federal law enforcement agent, assaulting other agents with a deadly weapon and related firearms offenses.
