My dear Marczi

I was pleased to get the photograph of you – how like our father you are – but we are getting old – enclosed is a photo of myself –

We have been down in the country – with my friend Sir Merrik Burrell^[1] – where a portrait of mine was unveiled [4553]^[2] – which I painted [illegible] – the young lady’s daughter and Patrick’s^[3] friend – I had a nice letter from Bárczy^[4] – and he sent me all the journals which contained my letter to Gömbös^[5] – and two articles – which were written [illegible] – it is a good feeling always to be welcomed so warmly in Pest – I had a splendid letter of thanks from Prime Minister Gömbös today – He writes as follows: While expressing my grateful thanks, dear Sir, for your precious gift [110815], whose artistic value is so highly regarded, let me take the opportunity to point out that, by this gift of yours, you have given further proof of the love and affection that you have always borne

for your native country and its history and with which you have never ceased to embrace the values of the Hungarian nation – Please accept, dear Sir, this sincere expression of my regard – Gömbös –

I have other – similarly interesting documents – if only our dear mother^[6] could read them – but I believe that she knows –

Read the letter to Szerén – and Gyula too – Bárczi [sic] – sent a splendid photograph of himself with his son Charlie – in Hungarian dress^[7] –

It looks as though Henry^[8] is going to Pest in the second half of next month – to study at the State University – I'll write about it next year – put him up in a hotel so he can be independent – Stephen’s^[9] factory is progressing – he works in the laboratory only, while Patrick is taking care of the business splendidly – Maybe Patrick will also come with Henry

to visit the electric lamp factory in Pest, but it mustn’t be known that Patrick is producing them also – I'll write about it next time – I'll arrange today for Genshow to get the 2000 francs – I enclose some Dollars that were left over – I’ve had a nice letter from the museum director – the portraits of Leo XIII [4509] and Rampolla [4511] have gone to Venice – for the historical portrait exhibition^[10] – it will be a great success – The Paris Salon opens tomorrow^[11] – where I have two important portraits exhibited – the Archbishop of Canterbury [6164] – and a lady [4019] – Lucy^[12] and I are definitely coming to Pest on the 20th of Sept. – as part of our Venice trip – the Director of the museum Petrovich^[13] had his 20-year anniversary in Pest – I sent him a nice gift – We are all well. Diana^[14] is expecting the baby in June – and Henry’s wife in September – we await the joys of grandparenthood – Lucy – and I – are very busy – I have received some more interesting commissions – but as far as [illegible] I am taking things slower and easier – I lie down for an hour after lunch and am feeling much better – I must paint my large canvas – it has been occupying my heart and mind for years^[15]

I’ll make use of the summer, staying here and working. Everything is fine with our beautiful house – and garden – you must come here in summer –

My book is definitely going to be translated into Hungarian – and it will be priced more cheaply – more than a thousand books have been sold so far^[16] – in Europe and America – it’s a shame you don’t speak English

Have you been to Munich? How did you leave things? – How are you – and how is your business? –

Örvendtem a photografiádnak mennyire hasonlítasz apánkra – de vénülünk – mellékelve küldök magamról –

Falun voltunk – Sir Merrik Burrell barátommal – a hol egy arczképemet lepleztek – melyet [illegible] festettem – a fiatal hölgy leánya s barátja Patricknek – Bárczytól kedves levelet kaptam – s megküldte az összes lapokat melyben levelem Gömböshoz volt megadva – valamint két tárczacikket – melyek [illegible] voltak megírva – jól esik hogy Pesten mindenkor oly melegen fogadnak– ma jött Gömbös miniszterelnöktől egy kiváló köszönő levél – Végül a következőket írja: Midőn méltóságodnak nagyértékű és művészileg oly nagybecsű ajándékáért hálás köszönetet mondok, nem mulaszthatom el hogy rá ne mutassak arra, hogy méltóságod ajándékával – újabb tanúbizonyságát adta annak a szeretetnek és ragaszkodásnak, melyel szülőhazájának

történelmi múltja iránt mindig viseltetett és melyel a magyarság érdekéit felkarolni soha meg nem szűnt – kérem méltóságodat fogadja kiváló tiszteletem őszinte nyilvánítását – Gömbös –

méltóságos L. F. úrnak – a csillagos II. osztályú magyar érdemkereszt tulajdonosa–

Hasonlo – érdekes okmanyaim vannak – hacsak jó anyánk olvashatná – de hiszem tudomása van róla –

Olvasd el Szerén– Gyulának is – Bárczi– egy pompás photográfiát küldött magáról – Charlieval együdt magyar ruhába –

Valószínűleg Henry a jövő hó második felében Pestre jönn – tanulmányok miatd az állami egyetemen – erről jövőre írok – hogy független legyen – szállóban helyezd el – Stephen gyára halad – ő csak a Laboratoriumban dolgozik, míg Patrik pompásan intézi az üzleti dolgokat – Lehet Patrik is jönn Henrikkel

hogy a Pesti villanyoslámpa gyárat meglátogassa, de nem szabad tudniuk hogy Patrick is készíti – erről jövőre írok – ma intézkedem hogy Genshow a 2000 frankot kapja – mellékelve néhány Dollár mely megmaradt –

A múzeum igazgatótól szép levelet kaptam – Leo XIII [4509] és Rampolla [4511] Velenczébe mentek – a történelmi arczképkiállításra – nagy sikert fog jelenteni – Holnap nyílik meg a Parisi Szalon – a hol két fontos arczképem van – a Canterbury herczegérsek – és egy hölgy – Lucyvel biztosan sept. 20 ikán Pestre jövünk – Velenczei utunkon – a muzeum Igazgatónak 20 – éves jubileuma volt Pesten Petrovics küldtem szép ajándékot – mi mindannyian jól vagyunk Júniusban Diana várja a Babyt – s Henry – neje septemberben – várjuk a nagyszülői tiszteletet – Lucy – magam – nagyon el vagyunk foglalva – ismét több érdekes megbízásaim vannak – de a mint [illegible] csendesebben, lassabban élek– s ebéd után egy órára lefekszem s sokkal jobban érzem magam – a nagy képet kell hogy fessem – szivemben lelkemben él évek óta

a nyarat felhasználom itt maradok s dolgozom. Házunk rendben van gyönyörű – s a kert – néked nyáron ide kell jönnöd –

A könyvem biztosan lesz magyarra lefordítva – s olcsobb arral – idáig több mint ezer könyvet adtak el – Europa s amerikában – sajnálom hogy nem beszélsz angolul

Vajjon voltál e Münchenben s mit rendeztél – hogy vagy – s miként üzleted –
