Two Pointe-Claire athletes, Stephane Richard (canoe) and Louis Vranderick (kayak), were selected by CKC for the Olympic Hopes Regatta based on their individual performances during the first two days of competition at the Canadian Championships in Welland, Ontario.

 

The Olympic Hopes Regatta will be held from September 15 to 17, 2017, in Racice, Czech Republic.

This year, the Long Distance Provincial Championships will take place during the “Classique internationale de canots de la Mauricie” in Shawinigan (Sunday, September 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.).

August 3, 2017 | Canada Games

Paddlers from our Club will represent Quebec at the Canada Games Sprint Canoe Kayak events taking place from August 7th to 11th in Winnipeg. Seven of our paddlers will be there as members of Team Quebec.

 

One of these athletes, Corrina Higgins, competed in K2 and K4 at the Junior and U23 Sprint Canoe Kayak World Championships from July 27 to 30 in Pitesti, Romania. The six other paddlers are Juliette Brault, Emmanuelle Guilbert, Philippe Laliberté, Foster Salpeter and Victoria Saucier, canoe, and kayaker Nicolas Thirion.

 

Let's wish them all good luck!

It's the most wonderful time of the season, well at least for our coaches! Each day during Feed the Coaches Week you provide the coaches with a feast. This year's schedule is:

Boat loading: Thursday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m.

Arrival on Thursday, July 27: Meet and unload at competition site at 5:30 p.m.

Team meeting: Thursday, July 27 at 6:30 p.m. at competition site

Team dinner: Saturday, July 29 at 6:30 p.m. (Comfort Inn)

Boat unloading: Monday, July 31 at 11:00 a.m.

Team dinner: Coaches are expecting every athlete to attend the team dinner. A reception hall at the Comfort Inn and a caterer have been booked. The cost is $25 payable in advance (cash or cheque) to Elizabeth in the office by Thursday at noon. If you are unable to attend, please advise Elizabeth by Thursday at noon or you will be charged.

 

Places are limited on the trailer so we cannot guarantee a safe place for each private boat. Athletes are invited to handle themselves boat transportation to Shawinigan, if possible. Please speak to your coach.

May 16, 2017 | World Cups

Canoe Kayak Canada announced yesterday its first team of sprint athletes of the new quadrennial to represent Canada at two World Cup competitions in Europe. The selections follow a weekend of Senior National Team Trials in Montréal.

The ICF will host three Sprint World Cups and Canadian athletes will attend the second two taking place in Szeged, Hungary and Belgrade, Serbia over consecutive weekends starting May 26.

Marc Tarling and Lissa Bissonnette from Pointe-Claire made the team following impressive performances over the weekend. Congratulations!

The water level is very high. Some equipment was moved to avoid potential damages and sandbags were placed in certain areas. Access to the Club is not restricted and it is business as usual at the Club.

Canoe Kayak Canada has scheduled two sets of Sprint National Team Trials for the 2017 season along with carding race to be held in advance of the Canadian Sprint Canoe Kayak Championships. The trials are scheduled for Montréal in May, Dartmouth in June and the additional carding races will take place in Welland in August.

Canoe Kayak Canada named its sprint teams for the 2016-2017 season.

The National Team consists of carded athletes who are part of Sport Canada’s Athlete Assistance Program. The NextGen 2024 Team is composed of targeted athletes who have demonstrated they are on track to achieve make a final at the 2024 Olympic Games. The Academy Team is composed of junior athletes who have demonstrated the potential for future international success based on performance indicators.

September 15,  2016 | Paralympics

Christine Gauthier (Pointe-Claire, QC) finished fourth at the Paralympic Games today in the Women’s KL2 200m.

She was one spot and 1.31 of a second away from claiming one of the first-ever Paralympic medals to be presented in the sport of Paracanoe.

Gauthier said the wind was a challenge for her as without lower body movement, the waves make balancing and steering without a rudder even harder. She struggled off the start and was seventh at the half-way mark. In the final hundred metres, she came through to move up to fourth place.

A big trailer full of boats left today for Dartmouth, NS. The PCCC bus with a small trailer and several athletes will be leaving tomorrow morning. From Tuesday to Saturday, our athletes will be competing at the 2016 Canadian Sprint Canoe Kayak Championships on Lake Banook. On Sunday the Masters will compete at CanMas. Have a safe trip and good luck to all in the competition! Go PCCC!

June 28, 2016 | T-shirt

The Pointe Claire Canoe Club is recommending that all members of the Racing team, from U9 to Masters athletes, purchase a club t-shirt for $15 on the Ludik registration site. A preview of the t-shirt can be found on the club website under Apparel as well as a very accurate sizing chart (men, women and youth sizes).

The style is a performance tee with moisture wicking properties that can be worn for training and at regattas to identify as a Pointe Claire athlete. The singlet must still be worn for racing. The concept of this t-shirt is for club spirit and to allow athletes to feel proud and a sense of belonging when they are at competitive events. We would like athletes to wear the t-shirt at the provincial championships and other club regattas. The deadline to place your order on Ludik is July 15th.

Canoe Kayak Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee, has named the eleven athletes to represent Canada in paddling events in Rio.

Pierre-Luc Laliberté raced on the World Cup circuit and here are his results:

Eric Mihalovic got some feedback on his experience:

 

“I am very happy with the way I raced, it was amazing to line up against some of the best in the world, including past world champions, and Olympic champions. Pierre-Luc is completing his Masters degree in Halifax this summer and will be an actuary in September. He will possibly be racing for the PCCC at Provincials and most definitely at Nationals!

Pierre-Luc Laliberté (PCCC) raced in heats and semi-finals on the second day of the first ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Duisburg, Germany, qualifying for the C-final of the Men’s C1 200m. On Sunday, Pierre-Luc finished in first place in the C-final, posting a time of 39.893 seconds.

The Pan American Canoe Sprint Championships concluded on Sunday in Gainesville, Georgia. PCCC athletes managed to add several medal to Canada’s medal count.

May 12, 2016 | News about PCCC athletes in competition

From May 4-8, six of our athletes competed at the Canadian Sprint Team Trials I in Gainesville, Georgia, with different objectives and all delivered great performances. Here are a few details of what they accomplished:

Lissa Bissonnette had very convincing performances, building for personal bests in 2016. She competed in the WK1 500m - Olympic / Carding / Selection and finished in 2nd place just behind Émilie Fournel in heat 2 and 4th in her semi-final, thus advancing to the B-final where she finished in 1st place. Lissa won her heat in the WK1 200m - Continental / Carding / Selection and finished in 3rd place in both Final 1 and Final 2 of the WK1 200m - Continental / Carding / Selection. Lissa also took part in the WK2 500m - Continental Qualifier and placed 4th in Final 1 and 5th in Final 2 with her partner Courtney Stott. Lissa was selected for the Pan American Championships (Senior) and the World University Championships.

Caroline Lesage was one of the youngest of our paddlers competing at the trials and was there for the experience. She competed in the WK1 500m - Olympic / Carding / Selection and finished in 3rd place in the C-final and in 2nd place in the second C-final. Caroline also competed in the WK1 200m - Continental / Carding / Selection and finished in first place in both C-finals.

Sarah Végas-Dubois’ objective was to take a shot at the Olympic process. She competed in the WK1 500m - Olympic / Carding / Selection and finished 5th in the B-final. Sarah also finished 3rd in her heat for the WK1 200m - Continental / Carding / Selection and made Finals. She also raced in the WK2 500m - Continental Qualifier and finished in 5th place with her partner Alexa Irvin. Sarah was selected for CANAMEX in Mexico.

Juliette Brault was there to get experience from competing at the senior level and was trying to rank as high as possible for the historical first ever national team carding process for women’s canoe. She competed in the WC1 200m - Carding / Selection and finished 4th in the semi-final, 1st in B Final. Juliette also competed in the WC1 1000m - Selection with a 5th place finish and in the WC1 500m - Carding / Selection where she got 6th place. In the WC2 500m - Assessment, she placed second with her partner Sarah-Jane Caumartin. Juliette declined invitations to take part in international events.

Pierre-Luc Laliberté was trying to qualify for the Olympic Qualifier at the PANAM Championships and had very impressive results. He finished in 2nd place in both finals of the MC1 200m - Continental Qualifier. Pierre-Luc was selected to compete at World Cup 1.

Marc Tarling was also trying to qualify for the Olympic Qualifier at the PANAM Championships. He finished in 3rd place in the MC1 1000m - Continental Qualifier and again in 3rd place in the MC1 1000m Final 2 - Continental Qualifier, and was 2nd until the last 100m. Marc won the first heat of the MC1 1000m - Carding / Selection and finished in 4th place in Final-A. At the end of the Trials, Marc was very excited about being asked to be a training partner for Marc Oldershaw as he prepares for the Olympic Games. Marc was also selected for the Pan American Championships (Senior) and the World University Championships.


May 11, 2016 | Canoe Kayak Canada announces sprint team selections in the wake of Trials 1

Following five days of competition at the Canadian Sprint Team Trials in Gainesville, Georgia, Canoe Kayak Canada has named athletes to teams for the Olympic Games, Pan American Continental Qualifier, World Cup, Under 23 European Tour, Pan American Championships, World University Championships and CANAMEX.

Two athletes have been selected for nomination to the Canadian Olympic Team based on quota spots that were qualified last year at the 2015 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships. One of these athletes is Émile Fournel, daughter of our commodore, Guylaine St-Georges and one of the founding members of the PCCC, Jean Fournel.

Congratulations to Paracanoe athlete Christine Gauthier of PCCC on her three gold medals at the Invictus Games in Orlando. She won gold in powerlifting and two gold medals in rowing. She is competing in the Invictus Games in swimming, rowing and powerlifting in preparation for the upcoming Paracanoe season.

May 3, 2016 | Sprint paddlers to take first strokes towards Olympic Team selection

Canada’s fastest sprint paddlers are set to line up at the first set of National Team Trials on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia, USA taking place from May 4 to 8. The athletes will compete in warmer waters at the 1996 Olympic venue as they start the qualification process with several goals in their sights. Most notably on the line are the first assessments on the road to qualifying for the Canadian Olympic Team.

Canoë Kayak Québec (CKQ) is innovating this year and organizing a development clinic on May 23 at Olympic Basin in Montreal.

Athletes in the U15 (2001-2002) and Masters categories across the province are invited to sign-up for the clinic.

Several coaches from various clubs have already responded and will be responsible for practices on the water and activities off the water.

February 27, 2016 | Departure of Marc Creamer

It is with sadness that we announce the departure of Marc Creamer. Marc will be leaving his function as Head Coach in April 2016 after the Florida training camp.

 

Marc has been a key member of our team for 11 years. He has touched many generations of athletes and made a significant contribution to the growth and performance of our team.

 

It is now time for the next generation of coaches to assure the progression of the team. Eric Mihalovic has accepted to take on the job of acting Head Coach for the 2016 season. We are working with the City of Pointe-Claire to open the position for the appointment of a Head Coach this autumn.  

 

Thank you Marc for your passion and dedication and good luck in your future endeavours!

January 15, 2016 | ICF approves new race programs for the 2020 Olympic Games

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has approved a race program highlighting gender equality at the 2020 Olympic Games. The ICF has put this program forward to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for ratification. The IOC will make a final decision following an analysis and review after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The new program for canoe sprint includes Women’s C1 200m and Women’s C2 500m. There are six men’s and six women’s events in the sprint program with eleven athletes for each.
