Schroeder YMCA Swim Team

  1. National YMCA meet  27 Schroeder Athletes traveled to Greensboro, NC for the the 2014 National YMCA Swimming Championships.  It was a very nice group to travel with and they represented Schroeder very well.

Summaries of each day are under the NEWS section of the site; here are highlights: Led by Alex Meyer’s win in the 100 Freestyle, the Schroeder Women’s team finished 4th.  Other Top 8 finishes were turned in by Alex in the 50 & 200 Freestyle; Ashlyn Schoof in the 100 and 200 Backstroke; Gwen Worlton in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke.  Ashlyn also finished in the Top 16 in the 100 and 200 Butterfly events.  All 5 of the women’s Schroeder relays finished in the Top 8.  The 400 Medley Relay (Schoof, Worlton, Rina Krupsky, Meyers) placed 2nd and established a new team and state record.  Participants on the other Top 8 relays include: Ashlyn Schoof, Gwen Worlton, Alex Meyers, Carolyn Jungers, Holly Stoll, and Jade Knueppel.

Led by Nick Petersen with two titles in the 100 Fly and 100 Back, the Schroeder Men’s Team finished 17th at Nationals.  Nick also finished in the Top 8 in the 200 Back and 100 Free.  While the men did not get any second swims in the relays, they definitely pulled together to produce some excellent swims.

With fast swims and a total team effort (including being chosen “Team of the Day” on one of the days), Schroeder wound up 7th in the combined team scores.  Great finish to a very very good short course season.

1. Spring Session Fee Payment:

Practice for the Spring Session began last week.  All participating swimmers should have already paid for the session.

Those of you who have not paid the April 1st invoice must do so immediately so we can allow your swimmer to continue to attend practice and meets.  Please mail a check payable to WSAC for your total due to Matt Miller, ℅ WSAC, 9240 N Green Bay Rd, Brown Deer, WI 53209, or give the check to Coach Bob or Coach Ann at your swimmer’s next practice.

If you have any questions regarding your fee payment, contact Coach Bob.  Thank you for your immediate attention to this.

2. Welcome Coach Michelle:

We are very pleased to welcome Coach Michelle Herman to the Schroeder coaching staff.  After a long hiatus from coaching Michelle has found herself back on the pool deck assisting with 12 and Unders for Schroeder Swim Team. Michelle will be coaching at the sites on the south side of Milwaukee.  Previously Michelle was an assistant coach for the McFarland Spartan Sharks, Mad-Town Aquatics (which is now a part of Badger Aquatics Club), and Middleton Gators summer club, which competes in the Madison All-City league.  During those years she worked with all ability levels at the 12 and under level; she loves seeing the swimmer complete his/her first race without getting dq’d, to the swimmer achieving a state cut.  Michelle’s philosophy of getting younger swimmers to love being in and around water has not changed to this day.

Currently Michelle works full-time as the Business Education Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and is pursuing her doctoral degree in Educational Technology.  She has two children, Allyson and Andrew, who have joined the Schroeder Swim Team this season.

Did You Know?:  In the first coaches meeting with Ann White, Michelle found out that Ann had coached the Arrowhead High School girls’ swim team in 1987 and won its first state title.  Michelle, being a part of Madison Memorial girls’ team that year, found itself runner-up to Arrowhead.

7. Team Equipment Info:

Team suits:  Now that our team is an official Speedo Team we have a Speedo team suit.  We would like all swimmers to wear a team suit when they compete in meets.  Swimmers are allowed to wear their present team suits but are asked to buy the official Speedo team suit when they are ready for a new meet suit.  Suits are available through Elsmore Swim Shop at the Schroeder Aquatic Center.  The kids can wear any suit they choose in practice.

Coach Ann will have Schroeder swim caps and fins at practice.  If you need to buy one, check with her before or after practice.

8. SSTY South Lost and Found @Greendale Pool:

When caps, goggles, suits or fins with no name are left at any of the pools we practice at, the coaches bring them to the Greendale Pool and put them near the team bulletin board.  Please check to see if they belong to your swimmer(s).

9. Mail Checks to Matt Miller:

Please mail all checks to Matt Miller rather than give them to coaches at practice.  You can mail them to Matt at the following address:
