Revered Maestro,
The admiration which I feel for your work has found expression on more than one occasion in the columns of my magazine, when I have reproduced illustrations of your works in order to assist in the presentation of various Hungarian art collections to our readers. It is my aim now, in honour of your oeuvre, to dedicate an entire issue of my periodical to that subject, as I lately did with the work of Mr Sándor Lietzen-Mayer. In order to fulfil this aim, however, I must turn to you for support. This is partly in order to make sure that I obtain reproductions of works which you consider inherently necessary to such a monograph, and partly because the production costs of such a special edition will be so high as to necessitate the Maestro’s financial assistance in meeting the expense of reproducing the images. As the situation stands, although my magazine has the largest circulation of any Hungarian arts periodical, our readership, which is no more than a few thousand, sadly compels us to turn to your honoured self to ask for a contribution to the costs of producing such a high-quality, representative issue. I should like to emphasise that after publication, all reproductions of your works thus obtained will revert to you, as your property. May I therefore ask you, for the purposes of promoting your art and in order to obtain images that will revert to your ownership, that you make available to us an expenses contribution of 1000 pengő?
Trusting that the Maestro will understand our situation and appreciate the difficulties that stand in the way of arts publishing in Hungary, I remain,
[Page 2]
in anticipation of your gracious reply,
With deep respect,
Nándor Gyöngyössy
