Yust is a childhood buddy of Jessica’s boyfriend, JM. Also an ex-boyfriend to Kara Kopetsky, whom went missing May 4th 2007.

Glimpse into past:

Yust started drinking alcohol at age 11, doing cocaine at age of 14, tried heroin by age 16, sexually abused as a child, and has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and bipolar.

May 2006 - Traffic ticket

September 2006 - Kara Kopetsky and Yust started dating. Dated for nine months.

April 2007 - Protection Order

A week or two before Kara disappeared, Kylr had kidnapped her from the parking lot of her job, and she had to jump out of the car. He was arrested but released.

Days before Kara went missing, Kara and her mother, Rhonda Beckford, filed a restraining order alleging that he was abusive.

May 2007 - Kara went missing.

July 2008 - Traffic ticket

October 2010 - Theft/stealing Class C Felony, sentenced to 10 days at JCDC.

January 2011 - Started dating girlfriend that is 18 years old and pregnant in July 2011.

July 2011 - The then 18-year-old pregnant girlfriend said Yust came home very drunk and the two fought because she wanted to end the relationship.

September 2011 - Plead guilty to domestic violence after choking and striking his then-pregnant 18-year-old girlfriend.

Judge placed him on supervised probation ordering him to stay away from the woman who was pregnant during the attack. “As far as you’re concerned, she doesn’t exist anymore,” Kansas City Municipal Court Judge Leonard Hughes III said. “Leave her alone.” Judge told Yust the probation deal was a “gift from the justice system.” “Next time you come down here, you’re getting a broken arm,” Hughes told Yust. “You’re going to jail, son.” Despite the harsh warning, a few days later Yust appeared in Hughes’ court again on charges he killed the then pregnant girlfriend’s three kittens and released him on a $1,000 bond. The now 23-year-old woman told police she was pregnant with twins.

2013 - Yust was sentenced to four years for drug trafficking. Yet just 27 months later, Yust was in a halfway house. Two months after that, he was sent to home confinement with his grandfather in south Kansas City. According to court dockets, Yust was placed on 3 years supervised probation.

December 2015 - Yust ordered to pay Child Support in amount of $255 a month, beginning September 1st, 2015.

August 5th 2016 - Kylr released from Federal Prison.

September 2016 - Early this month, Yust was ordered by Federal Bureau of Prisons to serve a weekend in confinement for an undisclosed probation violation.

Timeline

September 7th 2016

(time unknown) Last text Jessica Runions’ mother received from Jessica was in the evening. Jessica wrote, “Sweet dreams.” Runions’ mother responded by sharing a selfie of herself with Jessica’s little sister. Jessica then sent back a picture of her with her cat, Tig.

September 8th 2016 -

2pm - Jessica responded to a post on Facebook. From this point, Runions’ mother has heard nothing.

2:15pm - Jessica talked to her boyfriend JM.

8pm - JR’s mother sent Jessica a text, that was not read. After that, calls went straight to voicemail, as if the device was turned off.

9:30pm - Jessica was last seen leaving a house party at a duplex on Jackson Avenue in Grandview, MO. Witnesses say she left in her SUV with Kylr Yust. Jessica last texted her boyfriend around this time.

Around 12am -

September 9th 2016

7am - Kylr arrived at his place of employment.

9am - Jessica’s SUV at Kylr’s grandfathers residence.

9:15am - Kylr left his place of employment.

3pm - Kylr’s grandfather states that Jessica’s SUV had left by this approximate time.

8-9pm - Jessica’s mother reported Jessica missing at police department, in person.

September 10th 2016

Just before 2 am - a tip led police to Runions’ 2012 Chevy Equinox in the area of 95th Street and Blue River Road. Runions’ vehicle was found burnt. Police searched the area near where the vehicle was found but did not find any evidence to lead authorities to her whereabouts. Police searched SUV for evidence, including DNA and weapons. Liquid sample and fire debris were seized by police.

(unknown time) - Detectives spent night interviewing people who may have seen Jessica Runions in the past few days.

Sept. 11th 2016

8:30am - Missouri Highway Patrol assisted Benton County Sheriff deputies in arresting Kylr Yust, at 30551 Pecan Dr, in Edwards, Missouri. Yust seemed to have scratches and what appears to be burns to face.

(unknown time) - Yust’s grandfather says, “He hasn’t been around for awhile.”

September 14th 2016

2:33pm - Investigators search home of Kylr Yust’s grandfather, Alfred Yust, looking for items belonging to Jessica.

Item’s police are looking for: Firearms, burned or partially burned clothing, a blue plaid flannel shirt and black yoga pants, a white iPhone 6 in a black and white case, brown leather purse with shoulder strap, red or burgundy women’s shoes with white on the bottom, chevy car keys on a black “nightmare before christmas” lanyard, red men’s shoes and blue jeans, trace evidence

Item’s police have so far: Swab, alcohol pad with blood, blue plaid shirt, q-tip with blood, fingernail scrapings, handgun, ammo

September 14th 2016

The man in shackles and in mug shots is not the Kylr Yust his grandfather, Alfred Yust, says he knows. Kylr Yust lived with grandfather as he had on and off since he was in third grade. According to Alfred, Kylr slept in a tiny bedroom at his house for days before he was arrested. Grandfather said Jessica Runions visited his home often in recent weeks. Alfred Yust does not know if the two were dating. “I don’t know that much about their friendship. They would come and go. She would say hello to me and that was about it. Didn’t have any conversations with her,” he said. Alfred Yust says in all of these years, he and his grandson have never talked about the allegations against him. Alfred spoke to Kylr when his grandson called to wish him a happy birthday. It was also Kylr’s birthday, so they exchanged birthday wishes and then Kylr told Alfred he loves him.

September 15th 2016

Another woman who was at the party said Yust arrived with Runions and that he was extremely drunk. "He was drinking straight out of a bottle, Grey Goose, and he was chasing it with a bottle of wine," the woman said. She said she’s met Yust a few times in the past, but this was her first time meeting Runions, who she said wasn't drinking. "She was the sweetest person, I think, I've ever met in my entire life, the woman said. She said Yust drank throughout the night and became extremely loud. She said at one point, Yust was accidentally locked out of the party and became belligerent. “Everything was fine, but after that happened, he just went kind of insane, and then he went back to being fine,” the woman said. She said he also poured out drunken feelings for Runions. "He was kind of slurring a little bit but he was telling me how he really loved her and he wants to marry her and he's like, 'I'm trying to have kids with her,'" the woman said. After Yust became loud just before midnight, the host of the party told him to leave. The woman who spoke to KMBC 9 News Thursday said her heart sank when she heard about the burned vehicle. She said she’s afraid Yust might have done something to Runions. "I definitely believe he had something to do with it," the woman said. She’s also concerned that Yust was also involved in the disappearance of his former girlfriend Kara Kopetsky, who has not been seen since 2007.
