three thousand years ago, Egypt was the most powerful country in the world. The rulers of Egypt were called pharaohs. In the 14th century B.C. the ruling pharaoh had become old and sick. The young prince Tutankhamen was just nine years old at the time. He had assumed that his older brother would become the next pharaoh but unexpectedly his brother also became ill and died on the same day as the pharaoh. Tutankhamen became the new pharaoh and with the help of his advisors, he ruled Egypt for the next nine years. It is thought that he was either murdered or that he fell from his horse drawn chariot. Tutankhamen was buried among the most beautiful treasures. In 1922, Tutankhamen’s

tomb was discovered by Howard Carter, an English archaeologist.
