My dear Marczi –

I received your two letters – and hope in the meantime that you got my long letter – with one pound in it. I have not yet had the letter from [the American lady?] I wonder whether you [illegible] her arrival? Since you, as you mentioned before, have to be in Pest, my suggestion would be that you come [illegible] on August 5–6th to the following address: Hotel Vötterl, Grossgmain Austria. Salzburg is the nearest station – and we will wait for you there. Write at once to say whether we can expect you.

We will get there on August 1st with Johnny^[1] but until Aug 5th we are engagés

with social events in Salzburg after which we will stay on for a week – quietly – exploring various places with you – we are 20 minutes away – between Grossgmain and Salzburg. We want to be outside the city – because Salzburg will be full of visitors – I gave up my Italy plans because we’ve got to take a cure – Gastein or Karlsbad, it will depend on what the doctor in Salzburg recommends.

So go to Munich first and from there, on the 5th we will expect you in Salzburg.

I won’t reply to Gyula – Szerén wrote – wanting to know where we’re going and thanking me for the 1000 francs.^[2] Don’t tell anyone that you are coming to see us – I’ll write and tell people about what we’re doing later.

it’s an ugly business, what I hear of them – and I don’t want to see [them] – [illegible] woman – always was – and her husband – [illegible words] – we arrived here, tired, from Pest on Friday – afternoon – a beautiful manor house and estate belonging to friends – [illegible] we go back 2½ [illegible]. Johnny got back yesterday – after 2 weeks of manoeuvres – he’s with the flying squadron.^[3]

Last week we had 40 Hungarians to tea – out of 110 Hungarians who had come to London – there was a grand soirée at our house on Thursday in honour of the King of Greece his two sisters were there^[4] the King of Romania’s former

wife – his sister Irene and his younger brother Prince Rene – I’ll send the press cutting^[5] – we had 110 guests – among them the Duke and Duchess of Portland^[6] and now, on the afternoon of the 25th, it’s the Royal Garden Party, to which we have been invited – and that brings this tiring season to a close.

I would like to spend August at home, working on things I want to get done, while London is quiet – but we’ll be back at the very beginning of September –

At the moment – I’m working on the portrait of a young Indian ruler [5810] – and on Friday for the second time I’m embarking on a portrait of the Duke of Kent [5952] – but only after that – I promised myself – time goes by so horribly quickly – and we’re getting old – [illegible words] we feel the swift

march of time – I hear that the picture of Horthy [110886] will be unveiled in September? And I’ll have a winter exhibition in the Nemzeti Szalon – a few of my old larger portraits – perhaps the Wenckheim group portrait [110579] – the two Szitovszkys [sic] [4859][4862] and the old portrait of Mme Hubay [4825].

I hear that Petrovics has stepped down^[7] – I think we will soon see some big changes. Count Szechenyi is finally leaving London^[8] – he is not the right man for that post – he is a Count first and foremost – and a Hungarian diplomat after that – poor country –

they are working hard especially Stefy and Patrick because they are very [illegible] Henry has interesting [illegible] [illegible] – and his future [depends?] on it – Johnny is going to Dublin at the beginning of Sept to the Guinness Bank for 6 months^[9] –

So, old thing, we will definitely expect you on the 5th, for 5–6 days – we’ll have good long chats in the mountains, I’ve got a lot to tell you.

I hope you will find [illegible] in better health. – Lucy – and I – send our warmest love. Write or telegraph immediately – because we will need to arrange a room for you – I’ll help you with the journey when we meet.

Kettő leveledet vettem – s reméllem közbe megkaptad az én kimerítő levelemet – s benne egy fonttal. az [illető] amerikai hölgytől a levelet még nem kaptam vajjon [illegible] e érkezéséről? Miután neked – mint montad előbb kell Pesten lenned – azt tanácsolom jöjj augustus 5–6 ikára egy [illegible] a következő czímre – Hotel Vötterl, Grossgmain Austria. Salzburg az állomás – s mi ott megvárunk. Irjál azonnal vajjon várhatunk e?

Mi aug. 1én érkezünk már Johnnyval de aug 5eig engagalva vagyunk

Salzburgi előadásokra ezután még egy hétig tovább maradunk – csendben – kirándulunk veled különböző helyekre – 20 percznyi távolságba vagyunk – Grossgmain es Salzburg között. A városon kivül akarunk lenni – mert Sazburg telve lesz utasokkal – Olaszországot feladtam mert kell hogy egy curat vegyünk – Gastein vagy Karlsbad, attól függ – mit az orvos fog Salzburgban ajánlani.

Tehát menj elobb Münchenbe – s onnét 5 ikére várunk Salzburgba.

Eppen augustus en szeretnék otthon lenni magamnak dolgozni – mikor London csendes – de vissza leszünk September elsô napjaiban –

Jelenleg – egy indiai fiatal uralkodó arczképén dolgozom – s pénteken megkezdtem másodszor a Kenti herczeg arczképét – de csak ezután lesz – megigertem magamnak – az idő rettenetes gyorsan – halad – s öregedünk – [illegible words] érezzük a gyors

Hallom – Petrovics visszavonult – ugy hiszem hogy nemsokára nagy változások fognak törtenni. Szechenyi Gróf is végleg elmegy Londonbol – nem oda valo ember – mindenekelőtt Gróf – s ezután magyar diplomata – szegény ország –
