KESA:  Relationships:  Staff, Students, Family, Community

  1. February 13th was a professional day in the building that allowed for K-12 departmental meeting, mentor/mentee association meetings, and some building level work on Individual Plans of Study and Career Cruising, and grade level learning communities to look at student progress.
  2. Our HS Scholars Bowl team brought their season to an end after their regional meet on February 2nd.  The Forensics squad is in the busiest portion of their season and will host a home meet on Saturday, March 4th.  The HS Basketball teams, the JH Basketball teams, and the HS Wrestling team will see their seasons wind down in the later part of February.
  3. Shelby Burge, a 7th grade student, will compete at the Regional Spelling Bee in Topeka on March 4th after her runner-up finish at the local spelling bee in Atchison on February 7th.  We wish her luck.
  4. Jacob Chalfant, Ashley Pieper, and Grace Tucking have been selected for the KU Honors award and will be honored at a banquet on Wednesday, February 22nd.
  5. We had the first District Site Council meeting on Wednesday, February 15th and covered many topics related to KESA, the Rose Standards, Elementary and JSH initiatives, and  district reconfiguration.

KESA:  Relevance:  Curriculum, Instruction, Student Engagement, Technology

  1. We are scheduling review meetings for  Individual Plans of Study with our parents.  All parents, except senior parents,  will be contacted by PAWS advisors to meet and review information obtained from Career Cruising so students can begin their pre-enrollment process for the next school year.
  2. The sophomore students presented their collaborative projects on Thursday evening in our school commons.  Each year the sophomore english and world history teacher collaborate on a topic in which students conduct research, do a writing assignment, and do a public presentation.
  3. The juniors and seniors will participate in a Career Development day at Atchison High School on Thursday, March 16th. They will each select 4 presentations to participate in to learn more about those specific career clusters.

KESA:  Responsive Culture:  Leadership, Early Childhood, District Climate, Nutrition and Wellness

  1. Our 8th grade students will take the NAEP assessment this week in Reading and Math. Beginning in mid-March, we will start state assessments and hope to finish up the year with MAP assessments.
  2. Our career and technical Pathways applications are due in the middle of March.  We are hoping to continue all of our Pathways and have included the courses within those Pathways on the student Individual Plans of Study for students to become more familiar with those requirements.

KESA:  Rigor:  Career and Technical Education, Professional Learning, Resources, Data

  1. Angie Kimmi continues her training in the CPM math curriculum and has become a trainer of other trainers.
  2. Noelle Walters has been selected to serve on a state department review committee for science standards and the state science assessment.
  3. We are looking to schedule a day to take our 9-10th grade students to HCC Technical school for a tour to pique their interest in the Career/Technical offerings they have.
