Course Description

In this course you will be learning computer basics, the internet, productivity programs, computer security/privacy and digital technology. Our class will consist of assignments, projects, group activities, and/or presentations during the next 18 weeks. 

General Information

• The majority of your coursework will be completed in class with little to no homework (unless you miss class or are absent from school).
• In this class, we will use Google Classroom, various computer/internet applications, and complete paper/pencil assignments. Please be sure to JOIN our Google Classroom as soon as you have the code or receive the invitation.
• Attendance will be taken in class daily for teacher record.
• The Davidson County Grading Scale will be used to determine the final letter grade:        A = 90-100        B = 80-89        C = 70-79        D = 60-69        F = 59 and below
• Quarterly grades will consist of:  Major Works = 50%, Minor Works = 30% and Classwork/Homework = 20%
• Students are responsible for making up work when it is missing and/or they are absent from school. Any missing classwork/homework must be submitted within FIVE (5) days following the students return to school. After this date, ZERO’s will be entered into the gradebook.

Computer Use

During this class, computers are used daily. Students must have a signed DCS Acceptable Computer and Internet Use Policy (https://tinyurl.com/Policy7-6) on file, and should follow all of the procedures/guidelines within the policy.

Wireless Communication Devices

Cell phones, earbuds and other communication devices must be turned off and stored in a student's backpack during school hours (7:45am - 3:05pm). Smart watches may be worn, but not used for communication. If these devices are out, they will be taken and sent to the office per school policy.

Classroom Expectations

1. Respect others and their property.
2. Be on time and prepared daily.
3. Be safe in the classroom and when using technology.
4. One person at a time.
5. YOU control your own success!
6. Food/Drink in the lab: Individual SNACKS only (no Lunchables, sandwiches, full-size bags of chips, etc.). Only bottles/cups with lids are allowed. If you make a mess, be sure to clean it up immediately!
