Thank you for your interest in auditioning for Burleson Breakaway!

Breakaway is the competitive, varsity-level show choir at Burleson High School.  We perform both at school and at competitions throughout the school year.  We strive to uphold a tradition of excellence both in the community and throughout the state.  

Breakaway show choir is a class that meets during the school day, Breakaway also rehearses after school and in the evenings when necessary, particularly during competition season (January and February).  If you choose to be in the class, you must understand and commit to:

  1. attending extra rehearsals after school, especially January-February.  
  2. Breakaway is also a double block: You must be concurrently enrolled in either a choir, theatre, or dance class at BHS to be eligible to be a member of Breakaway.

Auditions for Breakaway will be held on May 14 4:30 to 6:30 PM in the BHS choir room (175).  The audition will include the following:

  • Singing Audition - Prepare 30-45 seconds of a pop or broadway song of your choice. This is usually the equivalent of a verse and a chorus.  You will need to have an accompaniment track to your song (search youtube, spotify, apple music, etc).  A cappella auditions will not be accepted.    
  • Dance Audition -  The choreography will be taught at the prep clinics (see below) and rehearsed prior to the audition.  There will also be a teaching video available for you to practice with at home. At the auditions, there will be a short rehearsal period, and then the choreo will be auditioned in small groups. Wear clothes and shoes that you can move in. Do not wear open-toed shoes or restrictive clothing. I am not looking for utter perfection, I just need to see overall coordination and teachability.

Prep Clinic- There will be 2 days of prep clinic to help everyone prepare for the choreo audition, led by our Dance Captains.  The clinic dates are May 8 and 13th from 4:30-5:30 PM.  It is highly recommended that you attend one or both of those prep clinics, but is not required.
