18th September, 1929.

Dear Mr. Winchester,

I wish to acknowledge your letter of September 13th the contents of which I have noted.

I have pleasure in enclosing a further cheque for £164.8.5. which I think now clears my account with you. There was a balance of £225.0.5. due to you and this, less £50. 12.0., being 15% of the admission money due to me, makes the final balance £164.8.5. and I return your account for the purpose of the receipt.

I am surprised to see that the number of visitors to the Exhibition this year is much less than two years ago.

In regard to the list of enquiries for portraits which you sent to me,[1] I wish to let you know that the majority of the people have not written to me at all, but I have made arrangements with the following, and as soon as I have painted their portraits I will let you know:–

Mrs. Wadia [10061]                    Mrs David Luke [6103].

Mrs. C.B. Hornung                   [illegible deletion]

Mrs. Tufnell [7379],               F.J. Nettlefold [10330],

Mrs. Estrada [110540]                  Mrs. Euan Wallace,

Mrs. Dunne,                              Mrs. O’Leary.

Major-General Sir Charles Mathew [6282]. [handwritten annotation: “at 15%”]

I am leaving for Paris on Saturday and shall be back here at the beginning of November to continue my work.

With kind regards, | Yours sincerely,

W.P. Winchester, Esq.,
