Creating Personal Glyphs

The ancient Maya used images from their natural environment to create glyphs. Each picture symbol had a meaning. It stood for a sound, and idea, or a specific thing. Jaguars, monkeys, flowers, the sun, and other natural objects are in the glyphs.

Think about natural images that are important to you. Is there an animal or pet you love? Is there an activity that you love to do? These images could be symbols of you.

Use the glyph graph to create some glyph ideas for you, and for your family. Finish the glyphs on a new sheet and use them to make a family stellae.
