SPEYER

I wish to thank you for your letter of April 14th which crossed mine to you of April 10th, and I much regret that I have been unable to acknowledge it sooner.

I arrived in Paris a week ago and had a very hectic time before my departure from London. Two of my last sitters were Mr. and Mrs. Ochs of the New York Times [6480][6486]; we had a glorious time together.

I shall be here until the end of the month except for a break on the 22nd when I have to return home to receive the guests at a Soiree which the Royal Society of British Artists are giving. On the 23rd I return here, but shall be going back to London at the beginning of June, and I rejoice to know that we are going to have the pleasure of greeting you in our home.

It is very disappointing that you will be in Carlsbad so early; Mr. and Mrs. Ochs are there at present, and we intend paying it a visit in August. I envy your going to Oberammergau! We were there some twenty-five years ago. You will enjoy it, I am sure.

I must thank you, dear friend, for extending such warm hospitality to Paul[1] who has written telling me of your kindness, and I hope you will give us an opportunity of showing you our  appreciation. I am hoping that, when I see you, I shall be able to hand to you the print of Count Bethlen’s portrait [2487].
