Evelyn Jones Conti was born in 1916 and lived in Pittsburgh all of her life.  She was married to Robert Charles Conti for 56 years.  She and Robert had three children and seven grandchildren.  She was first and foremost a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was also a student of history.  She was a member of the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania and was the local historian of O’Hara Township where she lived for 37 years.  She wrote a book about the history of O’Hara.  She was instrumental in having a bandstand erected in the municipal park during the township’s 1975 centennial celebration.  In 1993, when she died, the township dedicated the bandstand to her memory.

She was actively involved in the conservation of natural resources and was a long time member of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.  She believed in the beautification of the Earth.  She taught her family that if we take from nature, we are obligated to put something back.  She was truly a special woman and a wonderful role model for all women.  Her friends gave her the highest tribute when she died. They said, “she was a lady.”
