September 24th Board Meeting Highlights

The Board met on September 24th, 2024. The following are highlights from the presentations and discussions:

• Robin gave a debrief on the Welcome Back barbecue, thanking everyone who contributed their time and efforts to making it such a success this year. Attendance at the outdoor service and meal was very good. Accessibility outside is still an issue but there are some solutions that can be implemented for the next similar event.

• In an effort to make sure meetings don’t go on too late, the Board decided for the next couple of meetings to start meeting at 7PM versus 7:30PM.

• Two committees presented their annual plans as scheduled in the annual planning cycle that the Board is implementing - Worship and Faith Formation.

• Reverend Ted and Reverend Laura presented the Worship annual plan, communicating the prioritized goals for the upcoming year, key initiatives, dates, accountabilities and support requirements. As we move forward with more disciplined planning and coordination there will be challenges for worship such as; balancing the diverse needs within our congregation and community, broadening our volunteer base for participation in worship, working as a team with new staff members, and finding the resources to improve and expand such things as our online presence as well as greater involvement of children and youth.

• Brenda Lien presented the Faith Formation annual plan that included clarification of their mandate as a committee and major goals for the year. They have designed a detailed calendar of events, themes and activities in alignment with both the liturgical and secular calendars that will guide the implementation of events and activities for adults, families and Sunday School. The calendar outlines the activity to be planned and implemented, dates, accountabilities and will be used as a regular reporting process for monitoring and feedback on success measures that will be incorporated as learnings for the next year’s plan.

• Committees had the opportunity to answer questions and provide key highlights based on their pre-submitted reports. Moving forward, committees will report monthly on progress against their annual plans.
