GSoC OncoBlocks 2015 Template:
Please use the following template when applying to OncoBlocks GSoC 2015:
1. What project would you like to work on? Your proposal should include a high-level description of what you plan to work on, plus specific details and anticipated challenges. Your proposal should also try to break the project down into smaller tasks, and include a brief timeline of proposed work.
2. Please point us to a code sample you have written.
3. Why do you want to work with OncoBlocks in particular?
4. What school are you currently attending? What is your major or focus? Are you currently part of a existing research group?
5. Do you have any prior experience in bioinformatics or cancer genomics (this is not a deal-breaker, we just want to understand your background)?
6. Project Specific Questions:
[For the scalable data warehouse]: What database experience do you have? Have you worked with any NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB or SciDB? Do you have any experience in data modeling? Do you have any experience in API design and implementation?
[For the clinical biomarker project]: Do you have prior experience in natural language processing (NLP) and/or machine learning? If so, please provide a brief description.
[For all other projects]: What is your prior experience in information visualization? Can you provide links to prior work or prototypes, ideally written in Javascript or D3?
7. Do you have any other school-related activities scheduled during the coding period? How many hours per week do have available for a summer project?
8. How can we contact you to ask further questions? Google doesn't share your contact details with us automatically.
