OSC Internship Opportunity

Hey everyone,

This is a call for applications for an extremely exciting part-time internship starting from November with The Oxford Semiconductor Conference (OSC). We are looking for applicants interested in geopolitics, technology, strategic competition, East Asia, investment and diplomacy. If you don’t know much about semiconductors and why they’re so important, read Chip Wars by Chris Miller (he is on our Board of Advisors…).

OSC is a closed-door, invite only conference for senior leaders from across the semiconductor value-chain. We aim to promote thought-leadership, dealmaking and security between like-minded allies and partners, with delegates working in industry, government, finance and academia. It is quickly gaining traction as a premier event globally, sponsored by Microsoft, Intel, Infineon Technologies and White & Case.

For context, previous speakers at the event have included:

  • Jacob Helberg, (Undersecretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, US Gov)
  • George Lee (Co-head Goldman Sachs Global Institute)
  • Kazumi Nishikawa (Deputy Director General for Semiconductors and Economic Security, Japan’s METI)
  • Sarah O’Hare O’Neal (Partner, Associate General Counsel, Global Trade at Microsoft)
  • Sir Tom Copinger-Symes (Deputy Commander, UK Strategic Command)
  • Joseph Lyu (Chairman of the Bank of Taiwan)

Interns must commit at minimum 5 hours a week to OSC, but will sometimes be required to work more than this. The role will be to help organise the 2027 Conference. Key tasks include:

  • Taking weekly meeting notes.
  • Creating slide decks for sponsorship pitches and board meetings.
  • Tracking invitation responses and requirements.
  • Logistics for the conference venues and events.
  • Assisting with speaker outreach
  • Editorial involvement in the post-conference Compendium.
  • Chasing committee members on due-outs.

It is worth mentioning that you will be in regular contact with the committee members, who are all very impressive early career professionals working on OSC outside of their day jobs. They work across law, think-tanks, finance and government. It is a real privilege and great opportunity to be on a team with them and learn from their experiences. It is an unpaid role, but interns will attend the conference and have the opportunity to network with senior international stakeholders.

For each of the last two years an intern has been a 2nd year undergraduate studying at The University of Edinburgh. We are keen to continue this legacy, so please share widely. Needless to say, we will also be receiving applications from other universities in the UK and abroad, including post-graduates. It is an online / hybrid position and will last until October 2027. Please note, if you are undertaking a year abroad during the 2026-7 academic year, you are not eligible to apply.
