EXTREMELY GOOD VOTER GUIDE FOR HOT PEOPLE, UGLIES DO NOT READ!!!!!
Guess what. I’m back. And I make this face 90% of the time lately.
As a reminder if you’ve followed previous iterations of this guide, I’m not a citations girl I’m a vibes girl. If you want actual information and pages of policy analysis go look at Kris’s guide. My guide is here to tell you who I would personally vote yes or no on. I can’t read
Btw LAist stop telling people my name is Olda my name is Olga wtf
I will preface this November 2024 voter guide by talking about what I think are some of the most important elections in Los Angeles County, and who to vote for in those races. Two of them are LA City Council races: Ysabel Jurado for CD 14 and Jillian Burgos for CD 2. The other race to pay attention to is the Culver City municipal elections, where you should support Bryan “Bubba” Fish for City Council and Sameen Ahmadnia for School Board.
OTHER GUIDES: Knock LA. Kris Rehl’s Move Left. LA Forward.
AIGHT HERE WE GO!!!!!
District Attorney: George Gascón and it’s not even a question
If you have any doubts about your DA vote this is probably not the voter guide for you!
Measure A: good god yes
Measure E: I’m a lukewarm yes on this. This is a parcel tax to fund County fire response, which is NOT funded by the General Fund. In case you’re wondering why everything has to be funded by ballot measure in California, look up Prop 13. Anyway, I’d like to be petty and say I’m a no on this because the firefighters have a track record of supporting bad things politically but we really do need this funding. It’s endorsed by the Democratic Party, it’s not really controversial.
Measure G: yes -- this measure expands the LA County Board of Supervisors, which is currently FIVE PEOPLE who oversee 10,000,000 people. This would make it nine people, which is a marginal improvement. There are certain elements of this measure that I’m not a huge fan of, like the County CEO position, but I think having more Supervisors is extremely important.
Measure LP: Yes
Measure CL: Yes
Superior Court 39: George Turner
Superior Court 48: Erika Wiley
Superior Court 97: La Shae Henderson
Superior Court 135: Georgia Huerta is probably the best pick but I’m not very enthusiastic about it!
Superior Court 137: Luz Herrera
Seat 1: Cheyenne Sims
Seat 3: Nancy Pearlman
Seat 5: Nichelle Henderson
Seat 7: Kelsey Iino
The majority of these charter amendments and measures all have to do with transparency, anti-corruption, and reform around the LA City Council.
Charter Amendment DD - yes yes yes fuck yes
Charter Amendment LL - YES
Measure ER - yes
Measure FF - FUCK NO
(me to anyone who votes yes on FF)
Measure HH - yes
Measure II - yes
CD2: JILLIAN BURGOS!!!!
CD10: I’m not really gonna recommend a vote here because it doesn’t matter that much. I think Heather Hutt will easily win re-election here and Grace Yoo is not good. Heather Hutt is probably “better” but uh as you may recall from the most famous scandal in Los Angeles city history she was appointed to this seat under pretty dubious circumstances.
CD14: Ysabel Jurado. Fuck Kevin De Leon! All my homies hate Kevin De Leon!! If he somehow wins we’ll need a charter amendment to enshrine the right to throw tomatoes in City Hall
District 1: Sherlett Hendy-Newbill (she’s basically uncontested, I wouldn’t say she’s good)
District 2: Scott Schmerelson
District 5: Karla Griego
Measure US: Yes
Measure O: YES
City Council: Bryan “Bubba” Fish, Nancy Barba, Yasmine-Imani McMorrin.
Full disclosure, I’ve known Bubba since my first semester at college and I’ve helped him run his campaign. But if you’re reading this you probably know I wouldn’t help any candidate I didn’t support with my entire ass.
Culver City School Board: Sameen Ahmadnia (you can vote for two people for this seat but I do not believe you should vote for anyone else running)
City Council: you get four votes and they should go to Natalya Zernitskaya, Ellis Raskin, Dan Hall, and Barry Snell. The legion of doom slate running against them is not only anti-LGBTQ (these people literally raised hell about GENDER NEUTRAL RESTROOMS and several of them expressed that gender neutral restrooms are dangerous for women, for fuck’s sake), but also anti-affordable housing, and anti-transit. Fun fact: Phil Brock on the devil’s slate literally tried to take the affordable housing mandate Santa Monica received from the state of California and give it to Palmdale. Girl, be serious.
Rent Board: Kay Ambriz and Phillis Dudick
Santa Monica School Board: Maria Leon-Vasquez, Jon Kean, Jennifer Smith
Santa Monica College Board: Anastasia Foster, Margaret Quinones-Perez, and Rob Rader are all running unopposed
Measure K: YES for safe streets funding!!!
Measure PSK: NO this measure fucking sucks
Measure QS: YES
Measure F: YES
Measure MM: Your vote will not be counted on this - it was printed erroneously and is only for Malibu voters.
City Council: I’m going to give a full throated recommendation to incumbent John Erickson who is seeking re-election. Anyone who gets that much vitriol from pointy white ladies is truly doing something correctly. For your second choice, I would give Danny Hang your vote. I don’t agree with all of his policies or know him well but he’s backed by WeHo community leaders I trust. I have supported Zekiah Wright in the past but they joined this race too late to run a viable campaign and I cannot find any public information about their policy platform so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Measure WH: NO
City Council: Konstantine Anthony and Mike Van Gorder. I know some people like Eddy Polon too, he seems fine.
School Board: Laurette Cano (Area 1), Emily Weisberg (Area 2), Armond Aghakhanian (Area 5)
Measure ABC: Yes
School Board: Amanda Stern and Dela Peykar Ronen. The other two people running are nuts and actually have a chance at winning.
City Council: Herlinda Chico (District 4)
Measure LB: Yes
Measure HC: Yes
Measure JB: No
Measure PA: Yes
Measure PB: Yes
Measure PC: Yes
Measure PF: Yes
Measure PL: Yes
Measure PR: Yes
Measure EE: Yes
PUSD Measure R: Yes
Mayor: Not really any choice here, Victor Gordo will win re-election handily
Measure X: Yes
Measure GCC: Yes
ALHAMBRA
City Council District 4: Katie Chan and Je-Show Yang are the best people running, and unfortunately you do have to pick one. I really have a hard time. I probably align slightly more politically with Katie Chan who is of the Bernie 2020 camp, but I have organized around transit stuff with Je-Show and think he’s a very effective progressive organizer. I recommend you take a look at both of their websites and decide for yourself. Je-Show’s website is here and Katie’s is here.
BELL GARDENS
City Council: Jorgel Chavez, Gabriella Gomez, Miguel De La Rosa
EL SEGUNDO
City Council: John Pickhaver
City Council: Wade Kyle (District 2)
Measure TC: Yes
REDONDO BEACH

Measure AA: Yes although I don’t really think this one matters much
LYNWOOD
City council: Lorraine Avila Moore
School Board: Gary Hardie Johnny and robby
Measure U: Yes
MONTEBELLO
City Council: Scarlet Peralta (District 2), David Huerta (District 4). I am an all time huge fan of Scarlet Peralta.

BALDWIN PARK
City Council: Emmanuel Estrada and Daniel Damian
CLAREMONT
City Council: Rachel Forester
GLENDORA

School Board: Elizabeth Reuter and Robin Merkley
MONTEREY PARK
City Council: Henry Lo
Measure BE: Yes
Measure LG: Yes
POMONA
City Council: John Nolte (D1), Guillermo Gonzalez (D4), Miranda Sheffield (D6). I will add btw that Gonzalez is kind of a POS but his opponent is somehow even worse???
Measure Y: Yes
SOUTH PASADENA
City Council: Omari Ferguson, Sheila Rossi
Measure SP: No
WEST COVINA
City Council: Brian Calderon Tabatabai (D1) and Cecilia Munoz (D3). Brian rocks!!!
BELLFLOWER
Measure B: No
CARSON
City Council: Cedric Hicks, Jawane Hilton, and Lula Davis-Holmes are gonna win pretty easily, not much of a contest here
INGLEWOOD
City Council: The only “contested” seat is an easy win for Dionne Faulk
HAWTHORNE
City Council: The Democratic Party supports Angie Reyes English and Dayna Williams Hunter. Tina McKinnor supports them and Alex Vargas. This race seems like a clusterfuck. The LA Fed backs Marie Poindexter and then there’s a guy named Moe Adwallah who is backed by some random Dem clubs.
MALIBU
City Council: Haylynn Conrad and Bruce Silverstein are backed by the Sierra Club and are probably the best options here.
Measure MM: Yes
Measure QS: If you see this on your ballot it’s printed erroneously and is only counted for Santa Monica voters.
MOUNTAINS RECREATION AND CONSERVATION AUTHORITY
Division 1 - Measure H: Yes
Division 2 - Measure GG: Yes
SANTA CLARITA
Community College District: Michelle Kampbell (Area 1), Dr. Edel Alonso (Area 2), Andrew Taban (Area 3), Jerry Danielson (Area 4)

I will try to add more non-LA local city stuff soon I just have to do more research!!!!!!
I do this for free
INTERMISSION
From this point forward, the majority of the state and federal seats are Democrats running virtually unopposed either by fringe Republicans or no opponents whatsoever. I will tell you if that’s the case. Below is an image of how it must feel to be in such a position.
Your face when you see how many state propositions there are this year
If you want more details on what each one is and who supports/opposes what, check out this spreadsheet.
Prop 2 - yes
Prop 3 - yass
Prop 4 - yes
Prop 5 - YES!!!!!!!!!!
Prop 6 - yes and this one will make you feel insane. Right now the California Constitution bans slavery UNLESS it’s punishment for a crime. If you are against slavery you should vote yes. If you are for slavery I am once again asking if you’re sure this is the voter guide for you!
Prop 32 - yes
Prop 33 - yes
Prop 34 - no
Prop 35 - yes but progressives seem divided on this one
Prop 36 - fuck no
Me studying these mf props so I don’t lead you astray
DISTRICT 23: Kipp Mueller
DISTRICT 25: Sasha Renee Perez
DISTRICT 27: Henry Stern is pretty safe here against a Republican but I am not a fan :)
DISTRICT 33: Lena Gonzalez is a really solid leader imo
DISTRICT 35: Laura Richardson
Hope you’re enjoying the guide so far. Don’t forget to rest your eyes. Happy Halloween.
DISTRICT 34: Ricardo Ortega
DISTRICT 39: Juan Carrillo
DISTRICT 40: Pilar Schiavo is a Democrat running against a Republican for this contentious seat. Although I think Pilar Schiavo has lost the plot since being elected, if you care about the blue vs red type stuff you’ll want to vote for her.
Oh you know, just lying in bed staring at the ceiling thinking about how many people run on a grassroots platform and immediately cozy up to the police and other corrupt interests as soon as they take office
DISTRICT 41: John Harabedian
DISTRICT 42: Jacqui Irwin is going to win this easily, not much of a race here
DISTRICT 43: Celeste Rodriguez
DISTRICT 44: Nick Schultz is running an extremely tight race against a weirdo, he’s a great leader and he really deserves your vote so the fringe freak on the other side doesn't win
DISTRICT 46: Jesse Gabriel is going to easily win and I don’t think he’s particularly good
DISTRICT 48: Not a fan of Blanca Rubio at all but she’s safe in this seat and is going to win
DISTRICT 49: Mike Fong
DISTRICT 51: Not a fan of Rick Chavez Zbur at all, I actually don’t think you should vote for anyone in this race and he’s easily going to win
DISTRICT 52: Franky Carrillo. (I was pretty neutral on this race in my March guide as both candidates are “progressives” but Jessica Caloza waffled on her homelessness policies in a way that was red flaggy 2 me)
Tongues out for Franky 🙏
DISTRICT 53: Does this even count as LA? Oh well, let’s put it in. Michelle Rodriguez is the only Democrat running
DISTRICT 54: John Yi. He’s probably not going to win as he’s up against a well-funded establishment Democrat but he’s a good egg.
DISTRICT 55: Isaac Bryan
DISTRICT 56: Lisa Calderon is a Democrat running against a Republican but I don’t think she is in any danger whatsoever and I don’t think she’s good at all
DISTRICT 57: Sade Elhawary is truly one of the most inspiring people running!!! I’m actually legit excited about her and I think this is one of the only assembly races I’m invested in, she REALLY needs your votes fam
DISTRICT 61: Tina McKinnor
DISTRICT 62: You really don’t have to worry about this race, Jose Luis Solache is the Democrat running and he’s virtually unopposed against a Republican
DISTRICT 64: Same deal here, Blanca Pacheco is a Democrat with virtually no opposition but she is not good
DISTRICT 65: Mike Gipson is unopposed and also not good
DISTRICT 66: Al Muratsuchi is going to win easily, no contest here
DISTRICT 67: Quirk-Silva is easily going to win, no contest race
DISTRICT 69: Josh Lowenthal is up against a Republican but I don’t think he’s in any real danger, he’s kind of hit or miss
DISTRICT 23: Derek Marshall is a GREAT choice
DISTRICT 26: Julia Brownley is virtually unopposed
DISTRICT 27: George Whitesides (this is probably one of the most significant races going on if a Democratic majority in the House is important to you)
DISTRICT 28: Judy Chu
DISTRICT 29: Luz Rivas
DISTRICT 30: Laura Friedman
DISTRICT 31: Gil Cisneros
DISTRICT 32: It’s really a bummer that Brad Sherman is basically running unopposed here because he is one of the worst representatives to ever exist. :)
How Brad Sherman is treated by special interests and lobbyists
DISTRICT 34: DAVID KIM!!!!!!!!! ALL MY HOMIES LOVE DAVID KIM!!!!!!!! I WOULD DIE FOR DAVID KIM!!!!!!!!!
Me when corporate PAC lover Jimmy Gomez loses to David Kim
DISTRICT 35: Norma Torres is virtually unopposed
DISTRICT 36: Ted Lieu has been running unopposed for like 80 years. His opponent is a fringe weirdo, enjoy her tweets!
DISTRICT 37: Sydney Kamlager Dove is also basically unopposed. There’s a guy named Juan Rey running on an interesting socialist platform but the odds of him winning are almost zero.
DISTRICT 38: Linda Sanchez is pretty much unopposed
DISTRICT 42: Robert Garcia is a popular incumbent not really facing opposition
DISTRICT 43: Maxine Waters
DISTRICT 44: This seat is a bummer, Nanette Barragán ran as a progressive years ago and has just shifted further and further to the right. She’s not in any danger from the Republican opponent though.
DISTRICT 45: Derek Tran is the only Democrat running, I have no interest in his policies, but I think the Republican in this race has a better chance so again if you’re a “keep it blue” type you’ll probably want to vote for Tran although his policies are bad
SENATE: I deadass had to come back and add this one after publishing because I forgot there’s a Senate race, because it’s totally meaningless. I’m sorry (actually I’m not) but Adam Schiff is not good. His politics as a whole are awful and he spent tons of HIS OWN MONEY in this race’s primary boosting the Republican running (BASEBALL STAR STEVE GARVEY LMAO) in order to give himself virtually no opponent because he didn’t want to compete with people like Barbara Lee and Katie Porter. That should be unforgivable to anyone who cares about the Democratic process.
Just kidding. I don’t discuss presidential elections anymore. Y’all can get that 24/7 from MSNBC. It is my firm belief that local politics is more important than federal politics and there is no shortage of federal politics voter resources.
Me thinking about another election season where everyone focuses on President and doesn’t do any research on the local leaders whose policies have an actual immediate impact on their day to day lives
