Teaching Experience
Mixti’s Voice Studio – Private Voice Instructor 01/2018-Present
- Teaching sessions in person and on Zoom. Students from ages 14-65 from beginners to the pre-professional in styles such as opera, musical theatre, country, art song, R&B, folk, pop, hip-hop, rock, neo soul, rancheras, alternative, and jazz. Teaching through a non-gendered, anti-racist, disability inclusive, holistic, and individualized method that can utilize but does not require western classical notational knowledge. Working in collaboration with students to find the singer’s individual sound and to articulate their artistic messages and goals. Sessions are between 30 min to 2 hours depending on the needs and stamina of the student. Crafting a course syllabus, teaching philosophy, and studio policies to share with current and potential students. Producing a website for the voice studio with student testimonials available for students who are interested in starting lessons. Advertising lessons through social media, putting up flyers, in person interactions, utilizing QR codes, and sharing business cards.
Art Smart– Private Voice Instructor and Mentor 09/2024-Present
- Providing weekly in-person free private voice lessons to low-income BIPOC students at Burton High School and City Arts and Leadership Academy in the SFUSD to students between the ages of 13-18 through a radical self acceptance decolonial individualized approach. Mentoring and supporting underserved youth in their unique development, school struggles, friendship conflicts, and complicated family dynamics through a personalized and culturally-responsive mentorship that provides a safe and supportive space for creative expression, learning, and long-term stability. Coordinating schedules and logistics for auditions, weekly lessons, the mid-year studio class, and the end of year recital showcase with students, administrators, site ambassadors, etc. Preparing students for their public performance opportunities through acting, music theory, anatomy, vocal technique, breathing, and stress management lesson plans. Recording and documenting progress in lessons by collecting occasional media content for grant proposals and social media. Introducing new and diverse repertoire to students as well as working on the songs they know and love.
Oberlin College Student Academic Success Programs – Peer Mentor 08/2017- 05/2020
- Coordinating social activities and team-building events for first generation and Pell Grant eligible students. Helping students of color advocate for themselves and find resources to succeed in PWIs. Creating and presenting programming on how to request funding from the administration, locating performance activities, acquiring a tutor free of charge, registration, and many more topics.
Oberlin College Multicultural Resource Center – Social Justice Education Facilitator 08/2017-05/2018
- Facilitating Power, Privilege, and Oppression, Beyond the Binary, and Microaggressions Trainings. Hosting training sessions for students to lead programs themselves. Creating programming that focuses on the immediate requests of Oberlin students such as social media etiquette, how to be an ally, and equity workshops. Serving as a campus leader and consultant on social justice curriculum and education.
Alcatraz Island – Interpretive National Park Ranger 06/2015-07/2017
- Creating and leading programs on the history of the infamous island of Alcatraz on topics such as the Indigenous Occupation of 1969-71, racial segregation practices during the penitentiary years, Indigenous political prisoners imprisoned by the US military for not sending their children to torturous boarding schools, the lives of queer inmates, etc. Replacing original lyrics of popular songs such as “Rolling in the Deep” and “California Girls” with historical lyrics recounting the history.
Horizons Unlimited Females Against Violence – Peer Educator 01/2011-06/2011
- Conducting peer-led violence prevention workshops and presentations for diverse organizations who educate and uplift underserved youth in San Francisco. Grass-roots organizing and attending community call-to-actions.
Star of the Sea Church – First Grade Religious Education Teacher 08/2011-05/2013
- Organizing lesson plans. Teaching first graders and kindergarteners the basics of catholicism and recapping mass through songs, group readings, and games. Assessing students on material we covered through in-class discussions. ( I am no longer Catholic, just listing this for the experience).

Oberlin Conservatory Library – Circulation Desk Associate 08/2017- 03/2020
- Seeing to the circulation of the general collection as well as many of the reserve items. Assisting patrons with library equiptment. Locating items for patrons. Being the face of the library and greeting visitors as they come in. Calling various library offices to inquire about library materials.

Leadership and Volunteer Experience
Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church – Alto Section Leader 08/2022- 12/2022
- Singing hymns and anthems in services and rehearsals. Assisting the people in my section who had trouble with sight reading and offering support mentally and emotionally in rehearsals during a time of transition in which the music director passed two days before I started. Performing soprano and alto solos in performances. This was a paid position.

- Grading assignments and exams for the English Diction course. Taking attendance. Tutoring students in the course.

- Educating and enlightening visitors about recreational activities, and resource protection in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Conducting historical and natural research of the park on the Ohlone, Spanish, Mexican, early Americans of the Presidio, military, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
