Description of levels:
1. #1 Beginner/lower intermediate - Played a few times or never played before or not really confident in any of the skills. Serves, passes and sets are within the court some of the time. Tries to get the ball over the net in any way possible without proper form. ie: “Bear” patting or “spaghetti-finger” volley/hand passes. Rocket/swinging-style bumps and the ball goes out of the court frequently. Max 6 on 6*.
2. #2 Low Intermediate -Tries for 3 pass-set-hits. Serves, passes and sets are sometimes within the court boundaries. Uses mostly proper form when hitting/receiving, but struggles to get it in the intended direction. Max 6 on 6*.
3. #3 Intermediate - Mostly does 3 pass-set-hits. Passes and sets are within 1-2 metres of intended targets. Ball stays in court boundaries most of the time. Max 6 on 6*.
4. #4 Upper Intermediate - Consistent 3 pass-set-hits most of the time with overhand or underhand serving. Passes and sets are within 1-2 metres of intended targets. Max 5 on 5*.
5. #5 High Intermediate - Strong 3 pass-set-hits almost all of the time with preferable overhand serving (strong underhand serving is ok). Passes and sets are within 1 metre of intended targets. Minimal one arm hits. Max 5 on 5*.
6. #6 Advanced - Very strong 3 pass-set-hits 90% of the time with overhand serving. Passes and sets are within 1 metre of intended targets. Makes only very minor mistakes, if any at all. Max 5 on 5*.
7. #7 Advanced 2v2s. Strong 3 pass-set-hits with overhand serving. We have limited 2s spots available, and if it gets too busy then priority will be for higher level players.
Mixed-level court: We will have 1 court dedicated for those of you who would like to play with certain players and/or friends regardless of skill set and don’t mind playing with mixed levels of players. Stronger players need to tone it down and weaker players need to be alert at all times. Make sure to play safely!! As long as you play safely together you can stay in this court. Max 6 on 6.
*On busy days we may play king's court with three teams.
Note: We try to spend time observing your level of play.
Every meetup is potentially a different mix of players and skills since we are a drop-in! For possibly moving down a level for all levels except level 1, if you don’t have the level of skills of the court you are playing in, you'll likely be moved down to an appropriate net for your skill set.
AND if you have better skills than your current court, you may be asked to move up.
This is for safety and for enjoyment of play by all players.
