Number of Races and Drops
- There are seven (7) races in the series.
- Seniors and Masters are allowed one (1) dropped race; best six (6) of seven (7) races count.
- Juniors are allowed two (2) dropped races; best five (5) of seven (7) races count.
- Cat 2 and Cat 1 Seniors and Masters must compete in at least five (5) races and Juniors at least four (4) races to qualify for a series champion jersey. However, there is no minimum for scoring an overall podium (top three (3)) finish.
- PAY DIRT POINTS ARE IN EFFECT for this SERIES.
- Racers will get fifth (5th) place points for their class for five (5) hours of trail maintenance.
- Trail maintenance may be completed in any state, however it must be signed off by the proper authority as outlined in the Pay Dirt Rules on www.jorba.org.
- All Pay Dirt Hours must be turned in to the Pay Dirt Coordinator by June 30, 2017.

Individual Series Points
- Every rider who STARTS a race will earn points.
- Every rider who FINISHES a race will earn more points.
- DOUBLE POINTS: For the last one (1) race of the series, all points referenced in this section will be doubled.
- If you're outside of the top twenty (20), each racer will earn these points:
- Cat 3 earn 15 points to start, 15 points if you finish = 30 points
- Cat 2 earn 30 points to start, 30 points if you finish = 60 points
- Cat 1 earn 60 points to start, 60 points if you finish = 120 points
- Cat 1/Pro Open earn 120 points to start, 120 points if you finish = 240 points
- The top twenty (20) of each class will earn points according to this table:
Note: Cat 1/Pro Open Women, Cat 1 40+ Women and Cat 1 15-39 Women will be combined for the start, but will be scored separately for points and payout.
Rankings will be available on www.h2hrace.com shortly after the promoters send their results to the series score-keeper.
Cat 1 & Cat 1/Pro Open
Payout is at the discretion of each promoter. Promoters are required to publish the payout amounts and depth of payout online (race website and bikereg) and prior to the start of each race.
Categories and Classes
The series will offer the following categories and classes:
Cat 3 Men: Junior 10-14, Junior 15-18, Senior 19-39, Master 40-49, 50+
Cat 3 Women: Junior 12-18, Senior 19-39, Master 40+ (Promoter discretion to start all Cat 4 Women at once; will be advertised as such)
Cat 2 Men: Junior 10-14, 15-18, Senior 19-39, Master 40-49, 50+
Cat 2 Women: Junior 12-18, Senior 19-39, Master 40+ (Promoter discretion to start all Cat 2 Women at once; will be advertised as such)
Cat 2 Singlespeed Open: Same distance as Cat 2; must be a Cat 2
Open Men 60+: Open to any category; must be 60 years or older; will do Cat 2 laps
Fat Bike: Open to any category, except Pros; will do Cat 2 laps; must have tires at least 3.8” wide (as marked on sidewall)
Cat 1 Men: Junior 15-18, Senior 19-39, Master 40-49, Master 50 +
Cat 1 Women: 15-99 (Basically, Cat 1 Women ALL ages)
Cat 1 Singlespeed Open: Same distance as Cat 1; must hold a Cat 1 license; no Pros
Cat 1/Pro Women Open: Open (must hold a USA Cycling Cat 1 or Pro license)
Cat 1/Pro Men Open: Open (must hold a USA Cycling Cat 1 or Pro license)
*Any of the above age and classes may be combined for an individual race (but not for the series) if there are not more than 5 racers in those groups.
**Only because we’ve been asked this question more than once, racers may use singlespeeds and/or fat bikes in any category in which the racer is qualified.
Following the USA Cycling Mountain guidelines, it is up to each competitor to make themselves aware of all USA Cycling Mountain and H2H rules.
Riders found in violation of any of the rules may be disqualified and/or asked not to return to the series.
Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse.
- This is a USA Cycling sanctioned series and therefore all USA Cycling Mountain rules will apply. Although some races are not sanctioned by USA Cycling, they will still adhere to USA Cycling rules except for any rules regarding licenses.
- Racers must hold a current USA Cycling license or one day license for applicable categories. One-day licenses are available for Cat 3 and Cat 2 at the race site for an additional fee.
- Any Cat 3 racer who registers and competes in a Cat 2 race will be considered a Cat 2 racer. Examples of this include, but are not limited to, racers who "miss" the start of a Cat 3 race and want to do the Cat 2 race. This also includes racers who just want to "try" Cat 2. Once a racer registers and competes in a Cat 2 race, that racer is Cat 2 unless they apply for and receive a downgrade from USA Cycling in writing.
- Racers may upgrade for the final race of the year (pending approval from USA Cycling if upgrading from Cat 2 to Cat 1) and maintain their overall ranking from the previous category for the overall. For example, if a racer already has the series locked up after the completion of the penultimate race as a Cat 3 racer, that racer may enter the final race as a Cat 2, but will still be the Cat 3 champion. However, that racer is now Cat 2 for all future races, until an upgrade or downgrade is approved.
- For the non-USA Cycling events, it is expected that good sportsmanship will prevail and racers will enter their appropriate category.
- Racers must be self-sufficient and may not receive outside mechanical help or replacement parts. This includes, of course, bike changes. All racers must start, race, and finish on the same bike. This also includes help from any neutral support that may be available on site. A racer who is currently racing is NOT PERMITTED to utilize neutral support.
- Feeds are allowed only in the designated "feed zones."
- Any rider found cutting the course will be disqualified.
- Any rider found littering on the course will be disqualified. This includes, but is not limited to: gel wrappers, bar wrappers, punctured tubes, and CO2 cartridges.
- A certified helmet must be worn at all times while riding your bike at any H2H events. This includes pre-riding and riding to registration.
- All bicycles must in good working order.
- Racers are responsible for knowing their race number. If a racer loses their number off of their bike, they must shout their number to the score keepers as they cross the line to complete a lap or finish the race.
- Unsportsmanlike behavior such as profanity, throwing your bike, etc. may lead to disqualification.
- Racers who are riding their bikes have the right of way over racers who are running their bikes, even if the runners are passing the riders. A racer running their bike may pass a racer riding their bike as long as it does not interfere with the racer riding their bike.
- Racers passing another racer must yell an appropriate term such as "Passing on your left" or "Track left." "Get out of my way" is not an appropriate term. A racer being passed must yield at the first reasonable opportunity, but does not need to endanger themselves or others.
- A racer being passed may not intentionally "block" the racer coming up from behind. This is unsportsmanlike behavior.
- Any sort of headphones or earbuds may not be used during competition.
- Results protests must be made during the fifteen (15) minute protest period upon the completion of the race. Protests should be submitted in a calm and mature manner. Results become final once the protest period is complete.
- Waiting until you get home to check the results on the Internet is too late.
- Results will be posted on the individual promoter's website and the H2H Race site within one week of the completion of the race. Please give the promoters time to enter all the information and post the results.
- Riders should upgrade upon meeting the upgrade criteria or sooner if they wish. (See upgrading information below.) A racer who upgrades mid-season will transfer the actual value of points earned to that next category.
- Cat 1 and Cat 1/Pro Open points are non transferable. Racers can't flip-flop between the two categories and take their points back and forth.
- Violation of any of the rules may lead to disqualification, suspension, or removal from the series. Remember, we all do this for fun -- let's keep it that way!
- The race director and, if applicable, the USA Cycling Official will have final say on all rules and rulings.
Mountain bike racing is a challenging and fun sport, and the H2H promoters will do the best we can to keep it that way. This responsibility does not fall on the shoulders of the promoters alone, however. Racers should continue to challenge themselves and upgrade to the higher categories.
The H2H Series will be following the USA Cycling Mountain Rules (www.usacycling.org) when it comes to upgrading situations. Simply stated riders must advance to the next skill level if they have five top five finishes in their current class, provided the race consisted of the minimum number of competitors in each class (see table below). Upgrades will be based on a riders placing in their current category during a calendar year. Riders advancing from Cat 2 to Cat 1 must apply to USA Cycling (www.usacycling.org) or can be upgraded on-site by a USA Cycling Official and will be required to purchase a USA Cycling License. If a rider wishes to stay in his or her current category in pursuit of a series title, that a rider must obtain a wavier from USA Cycling which will allow the rider to finish a series in the original category. However, if a rider is finishing consistently in the top 3 of any category, it is strongly suggested that they upgrade to continue to challenge themselves and keep the racing fun. Remember: you will transfer the actual value of your points earned to the category in which you upgrade.
*For races with 5 or fewer competitors, only the top finisher will count for upgrading. For races with 6 to 10 competitors, only the top three finishers will count for upgrading. Upgrades will be based on a rider's placings in his or her category over a twelve month period.
It is the rider’s responsibility to keep track of their status. If a rider is found in violation of the class advancement rule, then they will be subject to the consequences, which will at the very least mean instant advancement. It may lead to disqualification and loss of series points and may even result in suspension from the series and or suspension of the rider’s USA Cycling license.
If someone has good basis to believe that there is a rider in violation, please research the rider in question by first checking the Series Results (www.h2hrace.com) and their USA Cycling Results (www.usacycling.org). If your suspicions are true, then contact a USA Cycling Official and a series promoter and we will look into the matter and take action if necessary.
In the event of a downgrade request, the rider must petition USA Cycling in writing with a rationale for the request.
Any change in category should be immediately reported to the series scorekeeper. Their e-mail address will be located on any series results page. This is the rider’s responsibility.
