CIRCULO MALLORQUIN
PALMA DE MALLORCA
25th Aug. 1925.
My dear Friend:-
Well, here I am again at home on the 5th inst. Will you and Mrs. László excuse my silence and failure to make my dinner call, for really these are excusable under the circumstances by which I became surrounded. I could have called you up; but I hate to do that always fearing one may be called to the phone at the most exasperating time. My heart went wrong the day after our dinner and from that time until my leaving I was never allowed out of bed before 1p.m. and had to be back in bed by 10 nightly. This cut my time down terribly and I had a very bad time. The trouble was all due to the rush over my two books [illegible]

being in the press at the same time. I’ll send you a copy of “Chamberlin’s Guide to Majorca”, if I may whenever it appears.[1] One proofreading of this little book is most damnable and interesting, in fact it is in English & set up into type by Spaniards who do not know one word of English. The greatest trouble comes in the separation of the words at the ends of lines – and they have no compunction in dividing which into w-hich; and into wh-ich; and whi-ich. etc,. etc.
When do you go to the U.S.? I want you to call to see a friend or two. I wrote you would honour me by a signed photo of yourself – autographing it too – so I may have it framed. I shall be very proud if you will thus oblige me.
My best wishes to your wife and the boys, & believe me
Your friend Frederick Chamberlin.
(1) Recollect – I’ll put you up when you come
(2) Price for the U.S. portraits – $10,000 each & not a cent less. Stick to it & say you really don’t want to do any, but if they want to pay that you’ll spoil your vacation by working.
