Petition to The Republic of Korea Government to Increase the Government allowance to individuals who have defected from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and who have sought asylum in the Republic of Korea
Dear Honorable President Park Geun-Hye:
We appreciate all that your government has done in giving defectors from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea political asylum, automatic South Korean citizenship, and government allowances and programs that help integrate these individuals into a high-speed yet highly efficient South Korean society. However as you know many defector’s from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea face discrimination in the Republic of Korea, the allowances are barely enough for these defectors to make ends meet, also the vast majority of these defectors have limited work experience when they live in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea so their knowledge on how to survive in the Republic of Korea society is severely limited. Seventy-one percent of these defectors are women and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea still operates under a male dominated patrilineal system, so these defectors naturally have limited work place experience.
Due to the items that I mentioned in the previous paragraph I believe that the monthly allowance of these defectors should increase to 2 million Korean won ($2,000 per month) and last for a period for at least 10 years but for no more than 11 years. This will reduce companies exploiting these defectors for cheap labor, this will give these defectors time to learn the South Korean dialect of the Korean language, and give the defectors time to learn specific skills to function well in the Republic of Korea.
I here by petition the Republic of Korea Government to increase the defector’s monthly salary to 2 million won per month. This salary will last for a period of at least 10 years but will not last any longer than a period of 11 years.
