Steve Hopkins* 1320 v 2300 Bob Osborne

Paul Jobbins 1350 v 2050 Peter Payne*

Sam Jones* 2160 v 0 B/P Tony Smith

Clive Thompson 1690 v 2440 Chris Haynes*

Ian Giffen 1310 v 2160 Mike Reilly*

Mike Holmwood 1330* v 3450 Phil Osborne

Tony Franks 0 B/P v 3620 Chris Haynes*

Result: Crawley 1, Eastbourne 7

The home team had 8 Players tonight so a draw was possible, Chris Haynes came out the lucky one to get a 2nd game and the first break twice!  Well done Chris for taking his opportunity.

Result the Eastbourne squad came out on top with a 7-1 win, helped by some of our team playing at the venue last week and the home team’s lack of table practice.

Great fun as ever, plenty of chatter, Tony and Sam continuing their targeting of the 100 and 200 holes

Notable breaks Chris Haynes 2260; Phil Osborne 2090; Colin Southouse 1690; Colin Southouse 1520; Chris Haynes 1130; Bob Osborne 1120; Peter Payne 1030.

Many thanks to Tommo for organising a great 4 pin competition, lets hope a few more will have a go next summer  - Colin Southouse.

A great night with the Crawley and District boys again, the result didn't matter as we know each other so well now, Good fun,,banter and some very good tunes on the juke box!  Notably Gandalfs Delilah!!!!!  Oh, and I managed a highest break! Always good! thanks to Clive for all seasons updates and to all players for a great season!  - Chris Haynes

Yes we were well and truly mullered and well done to Eastbourne.

Chris Haynes was the star of the show, recovering well from a bit of a 'mare of a league season.

The Dun Horse table played excellently, a lot truer and faster than when we played it last: thank you to Sparky for preparing it so well, even if it did rather expose our shortcomings! At least Sammy managed to save Crawley's blushes…..

It's been a fun season once more, and again we're grateful to the boys from East Sussex who came over to play each week, using the Bull as a home venue. And of course to the lads from Dun Horse, Stout House and Windmill C’y who've completed a second year's service.......maybe we'll get enough teams next year to form a second division.  - Clive T

Congratulations to Eastbourne who really played well with some good breaks & scores. As Chris said we all get on well. Great night & the Juke box was pumping.   Thanks to The Dun Horse for hosting & the chip butties.  - Ian Giffen

I'd just like to add: the whole thing went really well. Good games, good karma, lots of music and banter. Well done to Clive for organizing a "something different" summer comp as well as providing mementos and prize. This one-off I/L. was a nice way to round off the summer season, hope we do it again next year.   - Paul Jobbins

Week  Ten

Well the result was a bit academic with the Big Bulls already home and hosed back in their stables, but we had a good night with the Stout (-hearted) lads full of ambitious shots, and plenty of laughs.

Clive 1480, Sam 1620 (I missed a chance to win with the 200, but Sam must have spilled at least 1000pts during the course of the game and it would have been a travesty if he had lost)

Tony 3180, Steve 1720 (Tony getting the fram he needed to win the Best Performance)

Mick 3030 (incl.brks of 1030 & 1040) Iain 1020

Clive 2650 (incl.1090brk without a single double-50) Sam 1250 (fantastic last-ball 400 finish off the top cush from Sam - Daveuk1 would have been proud)

Tony 3500, Steve 1760 (magnificent 1450brk from Steve at the end in the limited opportunity that Tony gave him)

Mick 2290 Iain 1750 (some nice shots fron Iain, judging the pace of the table well).

Result: Windmill GG 5, YO Stout House 1

With the Dun Horse A winning 4-2 at the Bull, all of our team for next Tues have had a good run out tonight, and we look forward to next Tuesday's Interleague challenge at the Dun Horse. Bring it on !   - Clive T

Dun Horse A 4 Bull 'B' 2……. Paul played myself  & won by 1540 to my paltry 930:  too many attempts at high scoring shots!  Spud and Tony tried to lose to each other,  luckily for Spud he won 720 to Tony's 340!   Ian and Mick had a sensible game, Ian edging it with a 1210 to Mick’s 920!

2nd half: Chris found his game a bit more, 2350 to Paul’s 1400, Tony found his too, 1310 to Spud’s 610, and unluckily for Mick he ,knocked black when needing 200 to win last game so 1670 to Ian and b/p for Mick.  A great night with Dun Horse guys, 4-2 to them!  Well played. We even taught them break after the game to help out next week!!!!              - Chris Haynes

The home team were awesome after mastering the 50/50 both ways, just when it mattered, a 4-2 would have given the Windmill a sniff at the title.

Nice friendly match with Steve ,Stu and Rob who were targeting the high scoring pockets to great effect, hope we are all going to Sudbury this year                  -  Regards, Colin Southouse.

Congratulations to the rampant Big Bulls on managing the 5 points they needed to become champions.

Some mighty impressive scoring, with all five won frames over 3k and destined for the hall of fame board: worthy winners !

So with one week to go, Bull A are champions and Windmill GG confirmed as runners-up. Dun Horse A could conceivably finish 3rd but need a big win against the Bull B and a favour from the GG's when playing YO Stout House.        – Clive T

barred from league? tony managed to beat colin, quite easily in end! ha ha and pete payne

Another draw with some good play from everyone,

I hit my best score so far Paul just nicked the 2nd round with a 200 to finnish & win by 10, Stu making good use of the 50 50 break & making breaks of 1190 & 1180. Richard making 2K in both games oh and a 50/100 split by myself in the 2nd Stu called the shot & I tried it expecting to get the 50 & miss the 100 but they both dropped .

Looking forward the return leg on Thursday.              – Ian Giffen

Was a good night for our final 4-pin game at the Stout House (have gone though all our home games in the first five matches) and got two wins on my Tuesday night return. Thanks to Barry and the Stout House staff for hosting us over the summer.

Shot of the night was definitely Ian's 50/100 split shot, from the scorer's stool it did look on but very impressed when he got both balls down the middle of the pocket without touching either peg - pretty sure I would have taken both pegs out. Now he has shown it is on think we have the future of four-pin.... three breaks, one-up , split, repeat..... that easy!!!!

After a drawn first-leg last night there is all to play for in the return at the Dun Horse tomorrow night and very much looking forward to it.         – Stuart Carruthers

Great result for our team with Mick re-finding his form, but mine deserting me.....Bar went at the wrong time in the first, but Phil had really sorted the pace of the table out for the second which he dominated with breaks of 1890, 1750 and 1460. He also had a 1200 in the first leg, and Mick had one of 1010.

The table played well, as demonstrated by Peter and Gandalf in a knockabout afterwards.

A good evening played in a friendly and sporting atmosphere.  – Clive T

Well, poor old Bull B managed to scrape a 4-2 tonight to get their first win of season:

I went first against break with Sam and lost 1810 to 2200, Sam cheated as he got rid of red ball as bar went!

Tony played an off-colour Steve, Tony managing a 1720 to 740, “little bomb” Mick played Stout newbie Ian, Mick amazed us with a 2720 against Ian’s 990.

Well half-time went well for red bulls, I came out with a victory over Sam with a 1280 break (not off break) amassing a seasons best of4040 against Sam’s 1010, he let me have last ball to get over 4000!

5th leg was Tony 1780 and Steve 1430.Well, what could be said about a lucky 400 after bar had gone to win!

And Mick unluckily lost last game against Ian 1430 to 1560, last ball decider that fell in 10 hole!

So 4-2 to Bull B, and finally a win!               - Chris Haynes

A good match, with a slightly flattering scoreline, as the first game went a few minutes short. Games 2 and 6 were won on the last ball, one to either side. The fourth game was epic, Mr Mike kept chasing the Pup but the pup kept getting away again: good score from both players.

A selection of spectators again, two lads down from London whose local the Kings Head (Clapham) has a table. One guy who remembered playing in the League back in the 1950s (even I was in my pram then) at the Bridge House in Horsham (by the Iron Bridge - not there now, pulled down donkey's years ago); Gibbsey, Junkie and Mindyer just curious and having a look (for next year ???); and three gents to whom Mr Mike was obliged to explain the whole rules of the game from start to finish !

Lots of oohs and aahs – especially when Sammy was playing !

Great company, nice food, and nice barmaid.            – Clive T

Bull B 2, Dun Horse A 4

Gutted! I mean that by the fact I only met these 3 once last term, what a bloody nice bunch.

Anyway,1st game was Tony against Paul, Tony tried but to no avail, losing both legs, 1460 and 1110 against Paul’s 1950 and 1430. Next up, Mick and Graham, Mick struggled to find anything in first game, (including the table I think !),but drew back brilliantly in 2nd leg! Mick scoring just 870 and 1890 against a very in-form Graham’s 1550 and 1720.  I had a mixed bag against Ian, finding some fortunate 200's and leaving a few for Ian (- sportsmanship !). 2nd game played like a novice!  drawing 1-1. me: 3460 and 930 against Ian’s 1340 and 1810.  Even though we lost 4-2, we had a very nice evening with them, looking forward to next game with them.                – Chris Haynes

The all-horse battle attracted a few extra spectators tonight, which could bode well for an extra team next year.

Tony 2630, Graham 310 (Tony 1610 brk)

Hotly-contested match tonight, especially the final frame when Spud came from a thousand behind with a magnificent break to lead at one stage.

A variety of good shots played tonight, Ian's 3-baller probably the pick of the bunch.   – Clive T

Echoing what Chris said, a great evening spent in good company at the Bull.

Windmill were coasting at 3-0 and fair game to them, Bull B came roaring back to tie the match.....and some very 'interesting' shots were played.

An exciting match and bit of a change from last year when the Bull did us 6-0. Tonight the GeeGees attempted the 'Eastbourne break' and got some close games as a result. A tied match seemed fair in the circumstances and we thank our opponents for a nice evening, very competitive - though at times lighthearted: capped of course with some very tasty pizza.   – Clive T

Yes a great night yet again with all Games going to the last few shots, Nice to see the Windmill going for the 50/50 with reasonable success and probably were on top of the hosts for the greater part of the match, A few interesting shots from Stewart and Peter and plenty of less than interesting shots from Colin who somehow managed to scrape a draw from the "Jaws of defeat"            regs cs

Thanks to Debbie at the Bull for some great pizzas.

Hi there. My first experience of 4-pin last night and I heartily recommend it for all of those unconvinced by its charms. It was great to play a billiards table with a completely different mindset and play shots from an angle you would never have seen before. Great night down the bull. The pizza certainly brought a few people out in sweats if nothing else!    - Richard Spurrier

A very enjoyable night with the Big Bulls.

Great games especially Spud who put Pete under serious pressure but let him back in for the last shot which he sunk cleanly in the 200.

Spud took to 4-pin like a duck to water & loved it.

We all told Gandalf he was only 60 behind he scored 50 with the last few balls & kept 1 back he then managed to pot it in the 10 hole to draw the leg. Paul did well in both.I had no answer to Phil in both legs.

Thanks to the Bull for the very tasty & Hot Pizzas              - Ian Giffen
