Cosplay Dance Duet
 RULES AND GUIDELINES

DESCRIPTION

It’s time to grab your dance partner, select your favorite tune, and get ready to compete for this year’s Cosplay Carnival 2022! The Dance Duet is a talent competition where the best performers battle it out.

To keep with the theme of Cosplay Carnival, all performers must be in cosplay costumes during their performance. Contestants do not have to worry about  possible song restrictions due to this competition being open to both Japanese and mainstream songs.

REGISTRATION

Contest registration is only available online.

To register online, please click HERE. Competitors must provide the following details:

  1. The contestant’s stage names or the group’s name;
  2. The real name of each contestant;
  3. The name of the character that the cosplayers are cosplaying as;
  4. The series from which the character(s) came from;
  5. The contestant’s or group leader’s working contact details (mobile phone AND email);

NOTE: Online registrants are still REQUIRED to confirm their participation for the contest on the day itself and are asked to approach the contest registration table by 2 PM, otherwise FORFEITING their slot to give way to WAIT-LISTED registrants. Please note that the registration for Cosplay Dance Duet closes at 2:30 PM on the day of the event.

The information above must be truthful; falsifying any of the information will result in instant disqualification and the applicant will not be allowed to join the succeeding year's competition as an additional penalty. All registration information submitted will be considered FINAL, and will be kept in the strictest of confidence. Other competitors will not be informed whether a particular competitor has entered the contest or not.

DANCE DUET FINALIST SELECTION

From all the entries submitted online, only a maximum of 10 (ten) pairs will be allowed to join the competition which will be held on Day 2 (May 1, 2022) of Cosplay Carnival 2022

Finalists will then be contacted via email but will need to confirm their entry during the event day itself. If online registrants do not confirm by 2:00 PM, Waitlisted registrants will be allowed to take their slot.

ATTENDANCE AND CALL TIMES

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  1. Registered cosplay must be General Patronage in rating, and shall not depict any form of obscenity, political messages or endorsements, hate symbols and/or speech, excessive blood and gore, and any kind of extreme kind of fanservice (ie. kissing, PDA, etc.) that is deemed inappropriate for minors. Cosplay.ph management has the right to disqualify any participant on this ground.

  1. All kinds of costume props must be handled with utmost care and must not be harmful to his/her fellow contestants, event staff, and event attendees. Any kind of sharp and/or bladed objects that will be used as costume props that could cut human flesh is strictly prohibited. Any kind of pyrotechnic equipment/s that will be used as costume props that could render damage to the venue and/or property is strictly prohibited.

  1. The organizing team and its staff will not be held responsible for damage or injury resulting from mishandling and/or negligence of a contestant in his/her use of props/materials throughout the duration of the event.

  1. Contestants under eighteen (18) years of age as of the event date must have their parent/s and/or legal guardian/s sign the waiver/image release form to be provided at the registration table.

  1. The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any contestant who ignores and/or violates any of the aforementioned guidelines above also including but not limited to:

  1. Registration and participation in this contest constitute that the contestant gives the right and the authority to the organizers/staff, its sponsors, and authorized press media to take pictures and/or videos of registered contestants, teams, and its members and will be the sole property of the organizers/staff, its sponsors and authorized press media to be used for future publications and/or advertising promotions.

  1. The organizers and their staff as well as their relatives up to the 2nd degree of affinity or consanguinity are disqualified from participating in the competition. This includes parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, uncles or aunts, first cousins, nephews or nieces, and brother or sister.

DANCE DUET GUIDELINES

  1. The competition is restricted to a maximum of 10 pairs. If the 10 slots have not yet been taken by the day of the competition, we will be reaching out to our wait-listed registrants to fill in the remaining slots.

  1. For CONFIRMED ONLINE CONTESTANT/GROUP: We will send an email with details about sending your BGM for the on-stage performance.

  1. Messy props and acts that can cause damage to property are not allowed in the contest (see above under General Guidelines 1-3).

  1. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and safety protocols, mic usage will NOT be allowed for the contest

  1. Usage of BGM will be allowed but shall not exceed a maximum of three (3) minutes. BGMs are to be submitted on or before April 27th, 2022 (Wednesday)

NOTE: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and for the safety of all its staff, BGM submission on the day of the contest or request for a change of song is not allowed once the deadline for submission has ended.

  1. Contestants must be in costume, although the costume does not necessarily have to be from any specific series. The costume could even be an original costume, but bonus points could be provided for particularly creative costumes.

  1. When the contestant first approaches the stage, they must do a short interview with the judges to introduce themselves.

  1. They will then be given a maximum of three (3) minutes to perform for the judges with their given talent.

  1. At the end of the performance, one (1) judge at random provides any insights that the judges may have regarding their performance.

JUDGING CRITERIA

A panel of judges will judge the contest with the following criteria in mind:

  1. Performance Quality (60%): Overall quality of the performance including choreography for dancers, vocal quality for singers, etc.

  1. Costume Quality and Relevance (20%): The creativity of the costume being worn as well as how it complements the performance of the song.

  1. Entertainment Value (20%): The level of entertainment the performance provides as well as its effect on the crowd.

JUDGING PENALTIES

In addition to the judging scores, penalties will be imposed on the following rule infractions:

  1. Exceeding Time Limit (10% Infraction): For every one (1) minute or fraction thereof that the performance exceeds the time limit of one (1) minute, a 10% score deduction will be applied.

  1. Unsportsmanlike Conduct (10% Infraction): For actions that are demeaning to the organizers, staff, or judges or that incite conflict in the competition, a 10% score deduction will be applied. If this unsportsmanlike conduct continues, it may result in disqualification and ejection from the venue grounds. Multiple cases of unsportsmanlike conduct or willful defamation of character of any of the organizers, staff, judges, or fellow competitors will result in a year-long suspension from any events organized by Cosplay.ph.

  1. Intentional Violation of Contest Rules (20% Infraction plus 1-Season Suspension): For proven cases of cheating, dishonesty, and sabotage, a 20% score deduction will be applied. In addition, the offending contestant will be given a 1-Season Suspension where they will be unable to join the competition for the remainder of the competition as well as the next year's competition.

Dance Duet judges’ decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

AWARDS

At the end of the event, the scores will be tabulated and the highest scores based on the judges will be determined. The awards will be as follows:

  1. Dance Duet Champion: (Prize pool TBA)
  2. Dance Duet Runner-Up: (Prize pool TBA)

All winners must be present for the awarding ceremony and must be in full costume. If the winner is not present during the awarding ceremony, the next highest scoring competitor will be awarded the prize instead. If there is a compelling reason for the contestant not to be present during the awarding ceremony, they will be required to inform an organizer beforehand and provide a proxy for themselves during the awarding ceremony.
