Settling into Apartments  and American University in Rome

Afternoon - Evening : Walking tour of the Gianicolo & Trastevere &  along the banks of Tiber

Day 02 : Sunday, May 15 : Pentecost Mass at Pantheon

Morning : Pentecost Mass at Pantheon : gather at Acqua Paola at 8:00 to arrive at the Pantheon, 8:30–9:00 a.m.

Sant’ Eustachio - for the best coffee, Caravaggios in San Luigi dei Francesi

Afternoon: Piazza Navona & Campo Dei Fiori, Theater of Pompey, Area Sacra di Largo Argentina

Day 03 : Monday, May 16: Spanish Steps and Fontana di Trevi

 

Morning : 8:15AM meet at Viale dei Quattro Venti 57. Go to AUR

Day 05 : Wednesday, May 18 : Day in the Vatican

Morning : Depart at 8:00am for the Mass in St. Peter’s Square and Papal Audience (10:00 am)

Afternoon : St. Peter's Basilica & Castel Sant’ Angelo

Day 06 : Thursday, May 19 : Augustus’ Campus Martius

Morning : 10-11:30am Classes- Latin (AUR Classroom)

Afternoon : Palazzo Altemps, Museum of the Ara Pacis, Mausoleum of Augustus

Day 07 : Friday, May 20 : Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia

Morning : 10-11:30am Classes - Mythology (AUR Classroom)

Day 08 : Saturday, May 21 : Tarquinia and Cerveteri

9:00: Bus to Tarquinia and Cerveteri

Day 09 : Sunday, May 22 : Day Trip to Hadrian’s Villa and Tivoli

8:30-9:15: Charter bus (Cacciamani) to Hadrian’s Villa. The bus driver’s number will be sent to you along with a meeting point.

9:15-12:00: Hadrian’s Villa. No reservation necessary. Cash for tickets in folder.

Class: Latin - on site

12:30-2:30: Charter bus (Cacciamani) to Tivoli. Disperse for lunch.

2:30-5:00: Villa d’Este. No reservation necessary. Cash for tickets in folder.

5:00-7:00: Charter bus (Cacciamani) back to Rome.

Day 10 : Monday, May 23: Vatican Museums, Etruscan Section

Morning : 10-11:30am Classes- Mythology (AUR Classroom)

3:00 - 7:00: Vatican Museums. Reservation on file for this entry time.

Day 11 : Tuesday, May 24 : Dead Poets Day : The Non-Catholic Cemetery

 

Morning : 9-10:30am Classes- Latin (AUR Classroom)

11:00 am - 11:45 am : Tour of the American Academy in Rome

After the tour, we will all go down to Trastevere for lunch. You can go off on your own or come with us, but everyone will meet up again at 1:30 in front of the Ministry of Education Building on Viale Trastevere (The big white building where the tram stops).

Afternoon (2:00pm): The Non-Catholic Cemetery (with Nicholas Stanley-Pierce), Porta San Paolo, Pyramid of Gaius Sestius, Monte Testaccio, Ascent to the Aventine Hill, Basilica of Santa Sabina, Giardini degli Aranci

(Latin Students: Second try on reciting your poems, this time to dead poets, Keats and Shelley)

Evening : Group Dinner at Pizzaria Remo

Day 12 : Wednesday, May 25:

Morning : 10-10:40am Classes - Mythology (AUR Classroom))

Lunch 12:00-1:30: Tasting menu of Jewish specialties at Nonna Betta (Group Lunch)

Afternoon: 2:00 Tour of the Jewish Quarter, Guided tour of the neighborhood, Museo Ebraico / Jewish Museum of Rome, The Great Synagogue of Rome

Tiber Island, Temples of Portunus and Hercules Victor (Presentation by Sydney)

Early evening: 6:00 Drawing Class in the Pamphilij Park with artist Raffaella Curti.

Day 13 : Thursday, May 26 Villa Borghese

Morning :  10-11:30am Class Latin (AUR Classroom

Afternoon: 2:00 meet at the 44 bus stop going down the Gianicolo near AUR.

3:00 - 5:00: Villa Borghese

5:00 - 7:00. Galleria Borghese. 2-hour reservation on file for a 5pm entrance. Collect tickets from the front desk. All large bags and water bottles will have to be checked. Headsets are to be collected at the desk inside. They have been reserved along with the tickets; use the same reservation sheet.

Day 14 : Friday, May 27 : Corte Costituzionale

Evening 5:00pm: Peter Rockwell’s Sculpture Studio for lesson in stone carving (5:00pm)

Day 15 : Saturday, May 28 : Ostia Antica, the ancient harbor of Rome

Day 16 : Sunday, May 29 : The Forum Romanum & Palatine

9:00 - 12:00: Forum and Palatine. Individual tickets on file. Collect them again once through the turnstiles, as you’ll need them to enter the Colosseum.

12:00 - 2:00: Lunch

3:00 - 7:00: Colosseum. Use tickets from the Forum. You should enter in two groups to avoid having to enter as a group which requires additional procedures. Closes at 7:15.

Naples and the South

Day 17 : Monday, May 30 : Vergil’s Naples
