2. The objectives of the lesson

T: At the end of the lesson everyone will be able to say:

T: As you see, we have a lot of work to do.

Look at the blackboard and read an English proverb.

Twice happy is the man who has a hobby.
I am happy. We are happy. The English say: "Who knows how to work, knows how to rest".

How can you understand these words?

3. Checking on homework.

T: Now, let’s check your homework. You had to prepare dialogue about your favourite hobbies. So, demonstrate your situations.

Boy:  Hello, I ‘m Colin. What’s your name?

Girl:  I’m Lena. I’m from Ukraine.

Boy:  Really? I’m from Sydney. What are your hobbies?

Girl:  Well, I paint pictures of the countryside and play the guitar.

Boy:  Nice. I love music. I collect rock magazines. And I take photos.

Girl:  That’s great.  Can you show me your photos?

Boy:  Sure! I’ll bring them tomorrow.

4. Listening

Pre - listening task.

Super J: Hello, Helen. So you are the winner! Congratulations!

Helen: Oh, I don’t know what dance. My own creation.

Super J: It was cool! What form are you in?

Helen: The fifth.

Super J: What kind of music do you like?

Helen: Thank you.

Super J: You are a real dancer. What dance was it?

Super J: are you in love, Helen?

Helen: Of course I am. Love gives me the energy to dance.

Super J: Is your prince charming from our school?

Helen: Latino music. And I play the piano, so I love classical music as well.

Helen: Yes, he is. But it’s a secret. Hush, hush. He doesn’t know it yet.

Post – listening activity

T: Act out the interview in pairs.

5. Reading

Pre – reading task

T: Do the quiz: Are you a good friend? Write Yes No

  1. Do your friends tell you their secrets?
  2. Do you keep your friends’ secrets?
  3. Do you often talk about your problems with your friends?
  4. Do your friends help you when you are in trouble?
  5. Do you invite all your friends to your birthday party?
  6. Do you often get angry with your friends?
  7. Do you lie to your friends?

If you have 5 or more “Yes” answers, you’re a good friend!

If you have less than 5 “Yes’ answers, you must think about your friends more! Why don’t you talk to them more often?

While-reading task

T: Read a short letter from your pen friend Dora. Answer her questions.

Dear Olha,

My name is Dora. I am 11. I’m in the 5th form. My school is not big. I have got no brothers or sisters and I often feel lonely. I found your letter in our school magazine. I see you are lonely, too. It is sad. I feel I am different. I don’t watch soap operas. I don’t often go out. I like reading. And I like writing real letters, not e-mails. I am a bit old-fashioned. When the postman brings me a letter – wow, I am the happiest girl in the world. Oh, yes, I play the piano and collect tiny little things. I keep them on a shelf.

What about you? Do you play any musical instrument? Do you play any sport? Do you collect anything?

Write to me as soon as possible.

Yours,

Dora.

Post – reading activity

T: Answer her questions. Say something about yourself.
