Bylaws of Lund University Muslim students (LUMS) 

§ 1 Name 

The name of this student association is Lund University Muslim students (LUMS). 

§ 2 Status 

LU Muslim Students is: 

1. A non-profit association 

2. Politically independent 

§ 3 Domicile 

The association is based in Lund City.

§ 4 Goal 

The goals of the association are: 

1. To strengthen the Muslim students' balanced understanding of Islam’s teachings according to the Qur’an and the Prophetic Traditions (Sunnah)

2. Create an alternative Halal environment where Muslim students can feel included in student life.

3. To take care of the needs and be a representative of Muslim students at Lund University. 

4. Educate and empower the students of today.

5. To spread and exchange knowledge, ideas and thoughts about Islamic teachings, history and traditions and Muslim identity.

6. To increase the cohesion amongst muslim students at Lund both Swedish/international students.

§ 5 Aim 

The association shall: 

  1. Encourage our members to participate in the struggle against racism and islamophobia by informing them about their democratic rights.
  2. Promote interfaith dialogue with other faith/religious groups.
  3. Plan social activities. Such activities include but are not limited to Ramadan, Eid, Nollning summer-end etc 

§ 6 Membership

6.1 Admission 

Membership takes place through direct application to LU Muslim students and after payment of the admission fee.

6.2 Membership 

A member of the association is the one who wants to work for the association's goals and commit to comply with its bylaws and is either studying at Lund University or is a PhD Student at Lund University. 

6.3 Egress 

Exit from the association takes place through

  • Notification to LU Muslim students
  • Stop being a student or a PhD student at Lund University
  • By not paying the membership and having been reminded twice

6.4 Exclusion 

A member who does not adhere to these statutes or through their behavior damages the association may be excluded by the board. For exclusion, it is required that the 75% board support this. An excluded member will not receive new membership until the exclusion is canceled. Re-entry is granted by the board. For the granting of re-entry, it is required that the whole board support this. Anyone who is dissatisfied with the decision on exclusion has the right to appeal to a higher court, that is, the annual meeting. 

6.5 Membership Fee

The Membership fee is decided in the annual meeting and can, if there is an overwhelming benefit, be amended by an absolute majority in the board.

§ 8 The board of the association 

8.1 

The management of the association is by a board that is elected by members at an annual meeting.

8.2

The standard model of the President posts in the Association LUMS should be to have a male and female president. In the case where candidates are exclusively from one gender then, the president posts are President and Vice President.

8.3

The Association's Board requires to: 

1. Plan, coordinate and lead the association.

2. Constitute as the association's highest decision-making body after the annual meeting.

3. Present the annual report and accounts for the year during the annual meeting.

4. Book the association's expenses and income.

5. If someone in the leadership position intends to resign, it is obliged to train someone else who can fill their place. 

6. The board members must be active and involved in all activities, be able to handle stress, possess social skills and be able to connect with people.

8.4 

The Board can assume the following positions with the primary duties:

  1. President
  1. The President is the leader of the Board and is responsible for setting the agenda and overall direction of the organization. They preside over meetings and represent the organization to external parties.
  1. Vice President (If relevant)
  1. The Vice President supports the President and assumes their responsibilities in their absence.
  1. Treasurer/Financial responsible
  1. The Financial Responsible is responsible for managing the organization's financial affairs. This includes creating and monitoring the budget, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and taking member fees and checking the fees.

8.5 

The board should include 2 deputy members, preferably from respective gender.

§ 9 Meetings and gatherings 

9. 1 

The association's annual meeting will be held once a year, at which the following subjects will be addressed: 

1. Election of chairman of the meeting 

2. Selection of secretary of the meeting 

3. Annual report 

4. Financial and audit report 

5. Proposals of changes of By-laws.

6. The issue of discharge for the board 

7. Establishment of activity plan and budget

8. Determination of the association's membership fee 

9. Election of the Male President, Female President and Treasurer of the association. If the standard model cannot be formed, then Election of President, Vice President and Treasurer.
10. Election of 2 deputy members.

11. Questions and proposals raised at the meeting 

9.2 

All meeting participants own the right to speak and submit proposals at all meetings of the association.

9.3 

LUMS board should make notification to LUMS members at minimum three weeks prior to the annual meeting.

9.4
Meetings should be held prior to activities where the board has done the pre work for the activity/meeting. During the meeting decisions related to activities should be decided.

§ 10 Suffrage 

All members of the association own the right to vote. 

§ 11 Change of bylaws 

Changes to statutes can be made during the annual meeting. Requests for a statutory amendment shall come to the knowledge of the Board at least three weeks before the ordinary annual meeting. The current Board and ¾ of the members must approve them at two annual meetings in the row.

§ 12 Dissolution 

The association cannot be dissolved as long as three members wish to maintain the same. Resolution on the dissolution shall be made at the ordinary annual meeting.  In the event of the dissolution of the association, the association's resources will go to the entity decided by the annual meeting.
