Unit Title: Copyright Law-  Grade: 8

Pacing (Approximate)- 5 classes (1week)

Big Ideas/Enduring Understandings:

        Copyright law protects all original work.

        Copyright protection exists the minute an original work is created in a tangible form.

Public Domain is when an original work is no longer protected by copyright law.

Copyright expires 70 years after the death of the author.

Fair Use allows certain people to use a copyrighted work without fear of being sued.

        What is copyright law and what does it protect?

        What is an original work?

        What has copyright protection on the internet?

        What is Fair Use?

        When does a copyrighted work become part of public domain?

        When does copyright law expire?

        How can  I use a copyrighted work without the fear of being sued?
