Desire2Learn Integration
for Teachers
TDSB Desire2Learn (D2L) users no longer need a separate password to login to the D2L online learning environment. Staff and students use their TDSB network usernames and passwords to access D2L.
Trillium Integration
Now D2L and Trillium “talk” to each other. Teacher assignment and student enrollment information flows from Trillium into D2L. Trillium is the TDSB’s student information system (SIS).
This brief guide walks teachers through D2L login, course activation, content requests and student management.
Single Sign On
PC users who are logged into the network on a TDSB imaged computer DO NOT have to log in again to access D2L. They simply go to https://tdsb.elearningontario.ca and land on their D2L My Home page.
Mac users and PC users on a non-TDSB imaged computer who are logged into the TDSB network DO have to log in again to access D2L. When they go to https://tdsb.elearningontario.ca they will see an Authentication Required screen and must enter their TDSB network username and password to login to D2L.
Logging into D2L at Home
When users access https://tdsb.elearningontario.ca from outside of the TDSB (at home, at a public library or any non-TDSB location) the login window will appear (see image at right):
All users login as if they were logging onto a TDSB computer with their ID number (employee or student number) and network password.
Every teacher can reset student TDSB network passwords. Here are the steps:
(last 4 digits of student number + 2 digit day of birth + 2 digit month of birth)
Important Note: Inside the D2L learning environment users will still be able to access and use password reset tools. To avoid confusion, we recommend that users don’t use the D2L password reset because the TDSB network password will always override any password changes made in D2L.
The first difference teachers will notice is a list of all of the courses/classes they currently are assigned to teach in their My Courses widget. Course shells are automatically added to each teacher’s D2L account based on their Trillium teaching timetable. The name of each course shell is identical to the timetable course code/title. If a class is missing from your My Course list in D2L, contact your school administrator to make sure the course is marked “blended” in Trillium.
By default each of these Trillium timetable course shells is:
When you want to use a course shell for Blended Learning, there are two steps to you have to take:
Activate the Timetable Course Shell
When a Trillium course shell is activated, students appear on the D2L Classlist the following morning. On a nightly basis Trillium will “sync” with D2L classlists to reflect current enrollment. | Fill the Shell with eLO Course Content
Filling a course with eLO content takes 1-5 business days. You can choose to fill your course shell with eLO content while it is still Inactive. |
In addition to auto-enrollment through Trillium integration, students can be added to D2L Classlists by their teacher. This new feature is particularly helpful for managing split classes within one D2L course and for extracurricular and cross curricular groups. To add students to your Classlist follow these steps:
