Module 4 Overview: The Success Blueprint
Module Essential Question: “What is the formula for success, happiness and confidence?”
Our ability to regulate our emotions is the catalyst to a fulfilled life, self confidence, and success in life. When things are going great, it’s easier to succeed in life, but there will be situations and days that will challenge your emotional stability. However, If you can overcome setbacks with resilience, endure difficult challenges with grit, maintain healthy relationships even through conflict, manage stress effectively, keep a growth mindset despite failure and mistakes, perform under pressure, motivate yourself no matter how you’re feeling, and other skills — then you have the edge in life and what we call an “Unstoppable mindset!” This resilient mindset separates high performers and a life of fulfillment from the rest. The Success Blueprint (Emotivational Thinking) fosters positive emotions in even the most dire situations by tapping into a powerful universal truth that holds the secret to emotional management: We can’t control the events in our lives, but we can control how we perceive them. It’s our perception that creates a life of fulfillment, high performance, and unlimited possibilities.
Course Description
- L1: What is the formula for success, happiness and confidence?: Success is essential because it leads to happiness and confidence. In Lesson 1, students will analyze a story about a set of twins that despite growing up in the same environment took different paths in life. They will explore different illusions that have multiple meanings and apply the concept of “Our perception determines our experience” to explain why one twin succeeded in life while the other had a perilous life. Students will then analyze the success formula for managing their emotions that is centered on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Event>Perception>Emotions>Actions>Results>Beliefs
- L2: How can I find a positive meaning in the most challenging situations?: In Lesson 2, students will understand that negative situations are a part of life, and when one is able to change the meaning of it, they will experience positive emotions and outcomes. Students will practice cognitive reframing with several class and personal examples by using a positive reframing tips tool.
- L3: How can I regain control of my emotions even under extreme emotional stress?: In Lesson 3, students will learn about the amygdala hijack — when our emotions take over the thinking brain and how we can tame it by reactivating our prefrontal cortex. Students will share their best practices for emotional regulation and apply new science-based skills for positive self control. Students will develop the confidence and self esteem to have a paradigm shift on negative events and thoughts.
- L4: How can I make positive thinking an automatic habit?: The reality about success is that it requires self-discipline and determination. Lesson 4 teaches students how to develop the skills to find success, happiness, and confidence by making positive thinking a habit by understanding the science of habits. Students will learn and apply the 21 Day Mental diet, which will teach them how to remove negative language from their vocabulary and replace it with positive self-talk and cognitive reframing (changing the meaning of negative events). This consistent practice will condition students to construct a robust positive reframing habit that will propel them through obstacles and setbacks.
