My name is Miss Kreke and I will be your Algebra I teacher this year. I look forward to working with you to make this school year successful! The following is a summary of my academic expectations while you are in my class.

Materials

The following materials will be needed for class:

  1. 3-ring binder or folder
  2. Loose leaf paper or spiral notebook
  3. Plenty of PENCILS (and erasers)
  4. Calculator (TI30 series recommended but not required; no phones)

During the beginning and end of the school year, the weather can make it very warm and uncomfortable in the classroom. Therefore, you will be allowed to bring water to class, ONLY if it is in a clear bottle with a lid.

We will be using different forms of technology in this classroom like the SMART board and iPads. Once the bell has rang for class to begin, cell phones should NOT be out unless you have been instructed to use them for a class activity. Cell phones will be put into a holder each day before class designated by your seat number in the classroom.

Backpacks, computer bags, and large purses will NOT be permitted in the classroom (as per the handbook). Purses and other class materials must remain UNDER your desk at all times.

Grades

Points are accumulated based on the following work:

  1. Class/Homework Assignments
  2. Quizzes
  3. Tests
  4. Final Exam

Totaling the points earned and dividing by the total possible points (average) will determine the final percent grade. The grading scale is as follows:

        A        100% - 90%

        B        89% - 80%

        C        79% - 70%

        D        69% - 60%

        F        59% or below

Tests

You will be notified several days in advance about upcoming tests. A test will be given at the end of each unit or chapter. Only pencils and calculators should be used on tests. Math is a subject that continuously builds on previous knowledge. However, no test will be cumulative.

Final Exam

Information on final examination policies can be found in the Student/Parent Handbook. The final exam will be cumulative and follow the format of unit/chapter tests.

When you turn in your work, you will be allowed to pick up your cell phone. ONLY ON QUIZ/TEST/EXAM DAYS, you will be allowed to bring headphones and listen to music AFTER you turn in your work. On these days, I will play classical music on Pandora. Only a PENCIL may be used; any other writing utensil will result in losing points. NO PHONES may be used as calculators. Please remember to bring your own calculator to class daily. Each question will be assigned points based on how much work the problem requires and a correct answer. The more work you show, the more partial credit you can be given even if an incorrect answer is reached.

Make-Up Work

All missing work must be made-up in the same number of days as classes missed unless other arrangements are made. If absences are pre-determined, make-up work must be turned in before your absence or as soon you return to class. All make-up quizzes and tests must be taken during a study hall or activity period. Any work not turned in before a unit/chapter test is taken will result in a zero. It is YOUR responsibility to take care of all make-up work.

Hall Pass Policy

In your student handbook, each week has slots to be used for hall passes. To utilize the hall pass, you must first have YOUR OWN student handbook. If all slots are filled up for the week, then you are all out of hall passes. These passes are school-wide so use them wisely. You have four minutes between classes so aim to use the restroom and get a drink before class starts. You will not be allowed to leave in the middle of a lesson unless it is an emergency.

Binders/Folders

In order to be successful, students need to be organized. Math binders/folders must be brought to class every day. Notes will be taken almost every day so notebooks or loose leaf paper must be brought to class everyday as well. I expect notes and homework to be kept neat, organized, and easily accessible.
