TACO “Summer” Results

TACO “Summer” happened this past Saturday, which included over 8 hours of streamed content!

Stats

Clynch (runner up from TACO Spring) was able to defeat long time patron caller RationalPi in an intense final that went to all 5 games. Congratulations to everyone who played and gave us entertaining Hearthstone to cast and watch! Thank you very much to all our volunteers. This was the smoothest TACO yet, and allowed me to cast all day with minimal interruptions. You’re the greatest!

Old Decks, New Life

Top 2 decks on Tempo Storm and two of the most popular decks on ladder. Both have been around for a while (MalyDruid especially) but have seen a lot more play post-Karazhan.

Greeting angry ones who may or may not have come before the  angry egg (0/1, enrage +3 attack)

Rogue is my last class to get to golden, so I have been playing around with thief rogue to try and find one that at least feels like it wins 50% of the time.  So there I was locked in yet another midrange hunter.  The early game goes as usual, he plays fiery bat, I clear with my dagger and take a ping.  Fast forward to turn 6, I had managed to stabilize the board and my life to 21 when my opponent drops a strangle-thorn opposite my peddler.  So I proceed to play thalnos and goes face.  Turn 7 he drops another tiger, now I know what is coming next.  My turn 8 I drop Rag to try and stem the onslaught, sadly swagneros goes face.  As expected my opponent plays call of the wild and goes face for 11 leaving me at 10 while clearing thalnos.  Looking bleak I have the following, azure drake, coin, discounted dreadscale and powershot, shadow strike, sap and yogg.  Yogg seems obvious but I think there is a better play.  So I proceed to shadow strike the healthy tiger, run my peddler into huffer.  drop the drake, power-shot leokk, misha and the remaining tiger for 3.  I then coin out dreadscale for a glorious board clear.  If only dreadscale went off first so Rag could finish the job, but next turn my opponent only had a single highmane that was promptly sapped so the firelord could do his thing.

Yogg is fun, skill plays are more fun, keep on clucking.

Hello Angry Chickens,

After hearing about the new introductory bundle I wanted to see the new player experience now.

I switched over to EU and ran through the tutorials. They were fine, but don't really go into much more then how to play the cards. Instead of Solo practice, I wanted to go and test my skills on ladder, .

The first person I queued into had a golden Medivh hero portrait and the preorder Karazhan card back. I realized that he was playing Freeze mage. My board got frozen, and the only thing I could do was wait for him to Alex and finish me off.

The next few games were better, but I noticed I was running into a lot of legendaries. I am sure that they came from the intro bundle. Now I had experience paying around these cards, but how would a new player be able to do that? How are new players going to feel after losing to a Freeze mage or other legendaries in their first ever games?

Has the intro bundle made the gap between free and paying players that much bigger? Should there be a special intro ladder so new players don't get crushed and quit?

Oliver

Dear Cross Cockerels,

After a recent match in arena, I leveled up my Rogue class and received golden backstab as a reward. This made me think: why isn't there a way to get golden cards in arena? I don't mean in the drafting stage (that would be pointless) but rather as some sort of prize.

Wouldn't it be cool if, were Blizzard to introduce arena as a competitive format in the future, the winner (or top 4 or top 8, take your pick) in the annual arena championship won (in addition to a cash prize) the right to have every deck they pick in arena be all gold from that point on? Wouldn't it be cool to be playing arena, run into a player with an all gold deck, and know that you were playing one of the best arena players in your region?

Ell

Hello you crazy cock-a-doodle-doo-ing capons!

I was discussing hearthstone with some friends and we thought up the idea of wagering.

It could be done in any game mode really but  we thought to have it with friends (friend match) or in a spinoff of arena perhaps.

The gold/card comes from a player's existing inventory so it doesn't hurt Blizzard in terms of profits but would make the game more interesting and add a unique dynamic. Plus it  urges people to make MORE friends, increasing the social aspect and adds a new level of competition to the game as a whole.

What are your thoughts?
