The Miracle League of SF Peninsula (MLSFP) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that runs a Spring and Fall baseball season for children and adults with disabilities living in the Bay Area. Since its beginning in 2019, MLSFP has run six successful seasons with each season growing in the number of players and volunteers. Our Spring 2023 season was our largest one yet with over eighty players and one-hundred volunteers. The mission of MLSFP is to bring together individuals with special needs, their families, helpers, and friends to play the glorious game of baseball. We also have the goal of building a specially designed adaptive baseball field to accommodate players with various mobility impairments and sensory hypersensitivities. The MLSFP strives to build a community where children and adults with disabilities learn teamwork, build confidence, and are celebrated.
In summer 2022 the Redwood City Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved a conceptual plan for an inclusive sports field at Red Morton Park. The plan was created by Verde Design pro bono and called for the renovation of Mitchell baseball field by removing the existing dirt infield and replacing it with a synthetic turf surface that allows for inclusive play with assisted wheeled devices and met safety standards for both Miracle League and Little League play. Amenities included in the plan are a picnic area, shade structure for existing bleachers, modification of dugouts and installation of a modular building with storage, restroom and concession areas. The cost of the turf conversion will generously be paid by the City of Redwood City and is estimated to be completed by summer 2024. It is critical we raise $100,000 to pay for the shade structure, dugout changes and picnic area to coincide with completion of the turf installation.
We plan to finance this project through a combination of individual donations and grants. Recently, we were awarded a grant that will match up to twenty-five thousand dollars in donations. To reach our goal, we need to raise the first $12,500.00 by July 1st, 2023 and the second $12,500.00 by September 1st, 2023. We kindly ask that you consider supporting us in our capital campaign project so that we can build this valuable resource for the community. Donations can be made by scanning the QR code on the bottom of this sheet or by visiting our website at: https://www.miracleleaguesfpen.com/donation and selecting “Capital Campaign” at checkout.
We thank you so much for your support. One of the most amazing aspects of the Miracle League of SF Peninsula is the community that it has fostered and we feel truly grateful to share this experience with all of you.
Warmly,
The Executive Team of Miracle League of SF Peninsula
