The Christopher Brennan Library Readers’ Cup Challenge

What is the Christopher Brennan Library Readers’ Cup Challenge?

Whether students see themselves as ‘readers’ or not, reading is still an essential 21st century skill. Students are probably reading more than ever; the preferred text may be Tweets or Facebook updates rather than a paperback, but reading is still a vital skill in analysing all manner of texts, understanding traditional and social media and communicating online and offline.

The Christopher Brennan Library Readers’ Cup Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable students to experience a wide variety of quality literature as well as some non-fiction.  It is not a competition per se, but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The challenge will involve students from Years 7 to 10 reading from a specified booklist to complete the challenge.

The Christopher Brennan Library Readers’ Cup Challenge is a competition that rewards students who enjoy and who are good at reading. Just as students who are good at sport receive rewards, good readers will receive recognition in the form of a certificate. Prizes will also be awarded to the top readers in each year level. In addition, a Cup will be awarded to the student who receives the highest overall points for the challenge.

RULES

The Challenge runs from Monday 22 May to Friday 25 August 2017. Students must complete their online submission forms by 11:59 pm Friday 25 August 2017.

Students must read from the set booklist for their year level.

Books are listed under genre headings. To be eligible for the challenge students must read from at least six (6) genre categories.

One point is awarded for every book that is read.

An additional 10 points will be awarded if the student reads books from ALL categories.

The Christopher Brennan Library Readers’ Cup will be awarded to the overall point winner for the challenge.
