Imagine that you just traveled back into time and witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the cross, knowing the full story and the relevance of the two thieves next to him. You will live the rest of your days out in the days following Jesus burial and resurrection. Your legacy will be recorded and read by the friends and family you left before time traveling. TOOLS
Life force: you can always work on it and improving it will give you better insight into what your purpose is or what you should be doing. The life force triangle is the tool: it accounts for 85% of the way you feel. It is as follows…body, people, yourself. Bottom: exercise, diet and sleep reduce are fundamental l. Middle: You have to take the initiative in relationships, one person represents the entire human race. Top: Writing enhances your relationship with yourself and you unconscious comes out in journaling.
Part X: when adversity comes, it’s an opportunity, and you’re gonna face part X directly. Part X is the judgmental and antisocial part of you. It’s an invisible force that wants to keep you from growing or changing. it wants to block your potential and fuck up your shit. The voice of impossibility. He will always come back…and that’s why you have 3 aspects of reality that no one gets to avoid:
1. Pain
2. Uncertainty
3. Constant work
If you could banish part X then there would be no further progress. The would be no courage, bravery or GROWTH without part X. Learning how to love the process of dealing with those three things is what leads to happiness. This is where the tools come in: where it appears you can identify it and use a tool line to nullify (invalidate) it. If you can teach somebody to do that, then they can change their whole life. Because the highest form of creative expression for the human being is to be able to create some thing new in the face of adversity. And the worse, the adversity, the greater the opportunity!
Failure, weakness and vulnerability are like a connector. You are giving out the signal to the world that “I need you because I can’t do this by myself”. It’s what holds the universe together.
STRING OF PEARLS: 33:00: this is the most important thing you can teach yourself motivationally, and it’s simply saying, “I’m the one who puts the next pearl on the string.” EVERY ACTION HAS THE SAME VALUE, I look at myself confidently simply for taking action. Whether it’s a big success or a failure, you just keep going. Don’t get too high or too low. The winner is the one who works that cycle. Learn, adjust and move forward. In every circle or every pearl you add to the string, there will be a darker little circle within it, called a turd. I don’t know if this is good or bad, but I know I have to keep moving forward and taking the next action or putting the next pearl on the string.
THE SHADOW: what is the part of yourself that you’re ashamed of. You have to be able to identify and find the shadow. You need a visual of this to be able to find and work with it. Close your eyes. Visualize a time in your life when you felt rejected, inferior. It’s the part of you that you wish you were not, but you are and you can’t get rid of it. The question is, what are you do with that image in the present? That’s something from the past. Talk to your shadow and ask him about how he feels about YOU, how you’ve dealt with him, treated him. Ask him how he feels about how you have treated him. The shadow needs some attention, not from the world, but from you. Ask your shadow how you can make up for the way you’ve treated him. Being at peace with the shadow brings a sense of wholeness with the way you are.
The SNAPSHOT: The realm of illusion- it means that you were looking for the perfect experience. The perfect life or the perfect wife or the perfect something. Perfectionism. This can cripple you. You must understand that pain, uncertainty and one of the common work are constant, you can’t avoid them. There is no snap shot. There is no perfect. This is created by part X. There will always be pain, uncertainty, and work, so embrace them.

THE MAZE: this is the product of part X. When you focus on another person or another, causing to put your life on hold. You’re looking for fairness and it’s causing you to get stuck.life doesn’t have time for that bullshit. Not being paid back or treated fairly. Get your satisfaction from the exercise itself m, called active love.
ACTIVE LOVE: close your eyes and imagine you’re surrounded by a universe completely made out of love. It’s a world dense with loving energy and imagine yourself taking in all the love in this universe. Now, gently, but firmly place all of it in your heart. No, right at that moment, you’re the principled leader of all the love in the universe. Now, imagine the person you’re mad at or you hate, and send all of this concentrated love toward that person. Feel all of your love enter the other persons, body, become one. At that point, you feel like if I can become one with this person, I can become one with anybody. It’s allowing you to feel whole and move forward. You can’t get those days and hours back you spend obsessing about someone who’s done you wrong.
Matthew 5:43-48 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[a] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
RADICAL ACCEPTANCE: every event has something in it, that you can learn from. When anything goes wrong, anyone can say well, it’s not that bad of thing and I’ll learn from it tomorrow. That’s not good enough! You need to create a reflex of squeezing the juice out or finding something meaningful. It’s trying to find the state of not getting into a lot of negativity but training yourself to ask “what am I gonna do about it now” you’re not allowed to tell yourself any negative thing about it even though something negative may exist. You have to find something positive about it. Squeezing the juice of the lemon means you not only have the WILL I do to do this.. but you have faith that there’s some thing in there that’s valuable. Get into the zone of looking at all events as having value and you will find tremendous opportunity.

THE GRATEFUL FLOW: every thought you have is either going to be positive or negative and will affect your mood. The sun is always out there shining, even though it might be blocked by the clouds at the moment. You have to get through the clouds. The grateful flow wants to choose the positives. Part X wants you to have the negative thoughts, so it will create the cloud up there so you can’t see the sun. The question is is, how do you penetrate the cloud? With gratitude. The grateful flow is not the things you’re grateful for but the process of creating these things. Close your eyes and think about two or three things you’re grateful for, do it slow, the smaller the things the better sometimes because it forces you to focus. FEEL THE GRATEFULNESS. keep finding things, you are creating a stream of gratefulness. The next thing you do is NOT create another grateful thought but feel the force that you would have used to create another one…let that force that would have created another thought become stronger and stronger to take you over. The key is not saying the same things over and over that your grateful for. When you have to dig for and create these things, that process itself will change your mood. Gratefulness is the state you want to be in more than anything else.
LOSS PROCESSING: some people worry about a loss before they actually experience a loss. The goal of loss processing is to get what’s called the potency of nonattachment. It’s saying I’m gonna pursue some thing and pursue it really hard but I’m also willing to lose. Pick out some thing that you feel you’ve really become attached to. Your afraid if you let go of this thing, then something terrible’s gonna happen. Imagine that you’re grasping this thing like you’re grasping a branch on a tree. It’s scary and you’re afraid to let go. But you let go anyway and when you let go you start to fall. The fall is actually slow and gentle to your surprise, it’s not a bad sensation. Now say , I am willing to lose everything and feel the intent behind it. The moment you say that your body falls into the surface of the sun ans your body burns up. Now, you have lost your physical body. Now you look around you and see an infinite number of other suns who are also radiating in all directions. The goal of this is not to become completely nonattached but to move in the direction so that one person place or thing can’t leave you hopeless or less whole if it should be lost.

The first question I ask a patient is what do you want and why are you here? This is different than the average psychologist.
You want them to be able to take something away to feel progress toward something better. The tools Phil uses help play you to change your inner state immediately, in real time. it takes an experience and it’s you are really normally unpleasant, and turns the it into an opportunity. Tools change your mood and give you a sense of hope that that won’t be your mood forever. It’s basically a real time visualization exercise you do in your head at that movement. Phil is a teacher that teaches his patients how and when to use it.
Jonah and all Phils other patients have these note cards that are drawings of the tools. Visual representations of the tools. Most people tend to think in visual terms, so Phil started drawing the cards which is helped his patients tremendously. It gives the patient a better way to relate to the tool when they begin to discuss it. The tool is a bridge from what the problem is and gaining some control over the symptom.

Dr. Finlen’s Prescription: create a set of affirmations for each tool. Add verses, quotes, drawings and other supporting science/ more depth of understanding for each tool. Also, need one visual exercise or more for each tool. Having this depth allows me to internalize each tool AND provide counseling to another person while “meeting them where they are”.
How would the tool work? Simple- main category radio button images lead to sub category buttons which lead one gravity forms built for speed using a parameter= to choose an option. Why one form? Because time spent must be calculated in one form AND any user input must be the same. This form doesn’t query any user specific info but show html fields based on conditions.

Reversal of desire: talk to the unconscious. By taking a simple action “string of pearls” toward some thing, that we might even fear… We are satisfying the unconscious desire, and this is very big. Essentially, you are honoring the intuition and therefore your subconscious or whatever will reward you with more great ideas and confidence and more. Contact the scariest person first and you will get more great ideas. Creative compounding effective action. As humans, we try to avoid pain, but reversal of desire says, do the opposite. We embrace pain! Why? Because by going straight at the pain, it becomes less. Running away from pain, increases it and gives it strength. EXERCISE: close your eyes, separate the pain from everything and imagine it in front of you like a cloud. Or, I imagine it as a big boulder on a road that you’re trying to go down and the only way is through it. You can’t go around it. SAY- bring it on, I love pain, move aggressively into the cloud or the boulder of pain. Now, the cloud or boulder spits you out, and you fly effortlessly and aggressively forward closer to his will being done, SAY Pain sets me free…while seeing yourself conquering the act. THE OTHER WAY to use this would be to use it for something upcoming that you are anxious about or dreading, like public speaking or work. Do the same exercise but conquer your fear in the moment. Our infinite potential exists on the other side of our fear. The possibilities increase when we use this tool. There is a spiritual battle in the universe against your potential. Satans greatest victory is getting you to settle for some cheap imitation of your potential. There is a high force at work here, which you can use, which is beyond you. Use it to your advantage to increase potential. Each tool is designed for you to leverage the higher force. Put yourself in forward motion. Essential Q: How are you not in forward motion? Simply choose tools to address that lack, plan action, take action. How to we connect more to God/ higher forces
Willpower tool: commitment is a state that we want to be in for the rest of our lives. It doesn’t come from your goal. The higher force wants to help us but can only be received by the higher part of us. The will or attitude to connect to the highest part needs to be “never give up” and keep working. We have to lead committed lives and ask for more pain. Do things with a sense of urgency and intensity. The example was used of transition defense in basketball. Some people run back on defense with intensity, and some make it look like they’re running back. We have to stay connected to the higher force.
