Terms you are required to know
Edge | The sideline. Defenders dribble or pass to a teammate on the edge. Outside Midfielders get their body to the edge to create good passing angles. |
Goal Side | Mark a player “Goal Side” by positioning your body between theirs and the goal we are defending to prevent the opponent from scoring. |
Hips Open | A body position that creates space and allows you to see the entire field. |
Pressure | The first defender that stops opposing the player with the ball. |
Cover | The second defender that supports the pressure to block the lane to the goal. |

Drop | A pass that goes backwards to a teammate that is behind you. |
Cross | A pass that goes from the outside of the field to the middle. Do this in the attacking half of the field to create scoring opportunities. |
Swing It | A passing combination that rotates the ball across the back line. The pattern starts with an outside midfielder, the ball is passed through both defenders to the other outside midfielder. |
Transition | Switching your brain and your body from Defense to Offense or Offense to Defense when the ball changes possession. |
Shift | Moving your body to create a good angle to receive the ball from a teammate. |
